Mario Chat / Re: The Silly Mario Fan Theories Thread
« on: February 14, 2012, 02:20:07 PM »
We been playing the same games? In many of them it seems like no matter who it is, the CPU will be cheating in one way or another. So depending on who you like to use, there is only one honest character in the entire cast and the rest are underhanded dirtbags.

But then by that reasoning, characters like Toad, Mario and Peach should be banned from the parties as well.

Silly Fan Theory: This is why Nintendo made Wii Party.

Would they though?  Bowser always plays fair in the sports and Kart titles... Sounds like Bowser falls into the "even evil has standards" (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/EvenEvilHasStandards) type of villain.

Wouldn't that make the atmosphere shoot off too?  Anyone inside (that didn't die or get knocked unconscious from smacking into the ceiling) would die in however long it takes to suffocate, right?  So it'd be horrible, but it'd be over for everybody in a few minutes.

Video Game Chat / Xenoblade Chronicles
« on: February 06, 2012, 06:47:02 PM »
Holy cow, do we seriously not have a thread for Xenoblade Chronicles?  If you're not familiar, here's a quick refresher on the game and its long road to a US release: http://shigeruslist.com/2011/12/03/dont-be-a-penoblade-preorder-xenoblade/

Nintendo's holding a vote to pick the boxart for Xenoblade Chronicles: http://shigeruslist.com/2012/02/06/americas-next-top-xenoblade-boxart/

Ah, I see the original thread now.  Lock this if need be, though I think a separate thread for Xenoblade Chronicles (outside of the main Operation Rainfall thread) makes sense at this point.

Quick correction: Poison IS super-effective against Grass. In Gen 1, it was also good against Bug Pokemon.

I doubt there'll ever be an A-bomb Pokemon, for obvious reasons. If Kuro were still kicking around, I'd get him to make a legendary duo called Hirosaki and Nagashima.

Thanks for the correction on Poison types.  Can you tell I don't use them?  All I could remember is that after Gen 1 they lost super-effectiveness against a type.  And yeah, I can imagine an A-bomb Pokemon, cool as it would be, would also be a PR nightmare on a few different levels.

There could be a whole region modeled after Australia. It could appear in a Ranger-like spinoff called the Pokemon Hunter:
Koalas? Emus? Tasmanian devils? Dingos? Platypi (Psyduck doesn't count, no matter what anyone says)? Bird/fruit-hybrid kiwis? Shoe-dwelling funnel web spiders?

Ahh!  Platypokemon would be insanely awesome.  A pre-volution for Kangaskhan would give us a more obviously kangaroo-based pokemon, and could end the weirdness of Kangaskhan being born already caring for its own baby...

It blows my mind that there isn't a mosquito Pokemon yet.  Bug/Dark of course.  I'd love to see it as kind of a cute bug with some classic Dracula elements to it.

Going in kind of a different direction, I'd love to see Poison become a more useful type.  Some of my favorite Pokemon designs I'll never use (especially Trubbish/Garbodor, but also Muk/Grimer and Koffing/Weezing), because Poison is such a worthless type.  It's POISON, why wouldn't it be good against grass?  Or most living things

Branching off that idea, I'd love to see an atomic explosion/mushroom cloud Pokemon as a Legendary.  Fire/Poison type.

The jack-o-lantern Ghost/Grass idea is awesome too. :)

I'd also love a jellyfish Pokemon that isn't an ugly ******bag.

Heh, guilty as charged.  I loved Mr. L..  And while I'd love to see Wario try to take over the world again, I think he's been an anti-hero too long to go back to being a full on-villain.

Here's a retrospective on Mario's non-Bowser foes over the years:  http://shigeruslist.com/2012/02/05/the-mushroom-kingdoms-least-wanted-mia-mario-villains/

Reminds me a bit of the post I made a few months ago about how Wario isn't quite as villainous as he used to be.  Are there any baddies from the past you'd like to see menace the Mushroom Kingdom again?  Or maybe there's a character that deserves a shot at their own series, ala Donkey Kong or Wario?

Whoa, surprised to see nobody talking about the Nintendo Network announcement. It sounds like Nintendo is serious about stepping up and providing the Wii U with some of the cool online features the 360 and PS3 have: http://shigeruslist.com/2012/01/28/dont-be-a-jerk-check-out-the-nintendo-network/

I'm pretty excited about the Wii U, and even without a family to support, I super doubt I'll be able to afford this thing anywhere near launch.  I've had to cut way back on gaming to keep up with bills and stuff.

Video Game Chat / Wii U

Do we not have a Wii U thread?  I scanned through the last couple pages, but the closest I could find was an old thread about Project Cafe speculation.  If this thread is redundant, please feel free to lock or delete it.  If not... let's talk about the Wii U!

Nintendo's new console is set to launch by the end of this year, which is exciting, but I can't help but be a little nervous about another rough Nintendo hardware launch.  Sure Nintendo says they learned from the 3DS launch, but the Wii U so far seems set for a similarly tough launch: http://shigeruslist.com/2012/01/24/wii-u-price-speculation-thankfully-remains-speculation/

Hopefully we'll see some confirmed software and really cool uses of that fun-looking controller at E3.

Video Game Chat / Zelda Symphony Concert Series!
« on: January 16, 2012, 06:24:53 PM »
Hey, I thought we had a thread on this, but I couldn't find it.  So sorry if this post is redundant.  I'm sure most of you have heard about this by now, but if you haven't, "Hey!  There's a Zelda Symphony touring around North America!"  Unfortunately it seems to be a pretty strange selection of cities, but if you're on the west coast there's a good chance you'll be able to hit up one of their shows.  Details and and commentary here: http://shigeruslist.com/2012/01/16/zelda-symphony-and-more/

Heh, that one wasn't bad for me, actually.  I think either A. It'd need to look more realistic to sick me out or B. It needs to be naturally occurring to make me itch all over.
