Mario Chat / Animal Crossing cameo in Super Mario Sunshine
« on: March 08, 2007, 01:25:21 PM »
While browsing the textures of the Delfino Airport 3D model, I found something interesting in the texture 01.

Does anyone recognize that dude between the male and the female Pianta? I'm not exactly sure but it somewhat resembles that one character from Animal Crossing whose name I don't know.
The real question is where is this texture piece in the game itself? If you own Super Mario Sunshine, go to the Delfino Airport and verify this.

Not what you think :3

While decompressing the graphics, I stumbled across these little thingamajigs. There was also some more, but Photobucket is being a nacho to me.

Note, these may not be the correct palettes.

Discuss.

Today in a historic move, Sun is opening the door to greater innovation by open sourcing key Java implementations—Java Platform Standard Edition (Java SE), Java Platform Micro Edition (Java ME), and Java Platform Enterprise Edition (Java EE)—under the GNU General Public License version 2 (GPLv2), the same license as GNU/Linux.

Hmm, the common belief is that, in the original Famicom version of Super Mario Bros. 2 (J), to get to World 9, you must simply abstain from using any warp zone up to beating World 8--effectively meaning you beat every level. In the All-Stars version, if you have World 9 already, and use a warp zone on a save and then save it, you will lose World 9. But in the original Famicom version, it seems that going into a warp zone won't necessarily make you forfeit World 9.

In the original Famicom version of SMB2J, the criterion is not abstaining from the use of warp zones and just going into beat World 8, but rather that you must beat every castle from Worlds 1 through 8. When you beat a castle (or more precisely touch the axe and cause Koopa to fall into the lava pit) in a world, a bit is set on byte $07FA corresponding to the world you've beaten. Beating World 1 will set the lowest bit, while beating World 2 will set the next lowestt and so on.

After the scene with the Princess at the end of World 8, the game performs a check of byte $07FA, seeing if it is #$FF or not (i.e. seeing that all the bits were set or not). If it is #$FF, then the game will proceed to load World 9, while if it is not, then it will proceed to reload the title screen.

It seems that using a warp zone doesn't have an effect on byte $07FA, so if you warped forward and then warped back so you can still beat every castle, then theoretically it would seem that you could still get to World 9, in the original Famicom version of SMB2J.

You see, I'm ripping SPP Bowser and I need the correct palette.

Apparently, Starting from 0x010EEE1C, there's a nice amount of unused sprites on Super Princess Peach.
The Koopa Kids!

Unfortunately, only one of them is ripped. With pain.
After opening the ROM on a tile viewer and creating a custom palette, I was ready to go.
With a 3.5 hour Ripping process involving 3 liters of Coca Cola, I finally had managed to get them.
There are also Other Koopa Kids, Ludwig, Wendy, etc.. But I don't feel like ripping them now..
Please enjoy it. I've also ripped Peach But It's somewhere in the depths of my photobucket.

It is believed that the Koopa Kids are accessible only through a process which involves Legend of Stafi. In case you didn't know, if you have Legend of Stafi on your GBA slot while playing SPP, you'll eventually see Stafi himself. This has not been proven yet, but is a popular belief.

Mario Chat / NSMB Level editing

Yeah, it's possible now. Hear the words of wisdom of  Hera Bago:

Quote from: Hera Bago
Step one: GET TEH ROM (ohno, we can't discuss this step as decent cart dumpers are not available to the general populace.)

Step two: Decompile the ROM with NDStool, or just use some other thing that can extract/insert the rom's files (NDS roms work much liek ISOs w/ elf bootables etc. Look, I don't need to explain it.)

Step two point five: YNFFAFAFA TRRR

Step three: /data/course/
This is a picture:

This is a picture too:

It's of the same thing.

Step four (!!!): /data/player/. You don't have to be fackin' FuSoYa to figure out this stuff is LZ compressed. "LZ? Limprel-Ziv?" you say? Darn rite. It is just about one of the most basic compressions out there. Find/make a decompressor and RIDE. For every model file there is a texture file. Simple, yes? LZ isquite documented, decompress and blast away, IF YOU DAER.

Step five: /data/script/[any of the three files].bmg. Hey look, it's ASCII! Menus be eeeaaasy to hack. there's already a french translation on the game. (This step brought to you by FAST (http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=32910)

Click on either the "Save" or the Headphones symbol to listen it online or download it.
Constructive Criticism would be nice, and Yes. I know. I overused the Drums.

Mario Chat / The undeniable truth that Luigi Is not on Super Mario 64
« on: June 02, 2006, 10:31:54 AM »
The Texture.
Just ripped it from the Rom. I was kinda disappointed. But, at least now it's proven for sure.
This Topic could be the General Luigi in SM64 topic, so be my guest; Give me your opinions about the L is real thing.
Also, all kinds of fake cheats how to get Luigi are welcome.

Yes. Anyone know where to get them?
I'd like to transfer some SNES Roms into an actual cartridge.
And dump the game that was never dumped, Wario's Woods BS.

Latest News / New Super Princess Peach screens (And a release date perhaps?)
« on: September 07, 2005, 12:00:09 PM »
http://plusd.itmedia.co.jp/games/articles/0509/05/news038.html
Yeah..
At the end of the page it says "??? - 2005?10?20???"
As Far as I know, that means "Planned release date"
Correct me if I'm mistaken.

In other words, neat. But that's probably the Japanese release date, so we'll just have to wait for more info.

EDIT: Argh! Japanese font doesn't work. Dang.
