Just did this one in a three-hour session tonight; it's my favorite. While you're on my profile, check out L Castle too; that one's also pretty good I think.

Unless you count The Story of the Town Whose Name Has Been Stolen, which looks like a pretty cool system menu from the handful of videos and screenshots you can find of it.

Eh, the battles in PM1 look more like a pop-up book to me. They really only look like a stage if you project TTYD back onto it. Lack of an audience is pretty big.

I was thinking the idea was that Bowser breaks into the performance when he kidnaps Peach after World 7 and that's when [dukar] gets real. World 8's levels look like the end-of-level sections from before, which makes it look like the backdrops have all fallen down. The curtain still comes down after World 8, so it's still actually part of the play, but it was a bit of a fourth-wall-break to jolt the audience, kinda like that time Hooktail ate the audience. All-Stars took out the backdrop-less look of World 8, and generally went for a more realistic look in the rest of the game, but the curtains are still there at least.

I'd still really like to see a Mario game (either an SMB3 remake or a whole new thing) that focused more on making it look like a play, along the lines of Kirby and the Rainbow Curse and Yoshi's Woolly World.

Fan Creations / Re: CE7 Draws!

I've been falling behind here.

Here's a kiwi I drew last summer. I really like how it looks in person; it's mixed media chalk and highlighter, and the chalk gives the kiwi's fur a really nice texture.

I always like drawing Yoshis. The purple one was kind of based on Fifth's Sad Little Yoshi (which hopefully Fifth saved somewhere because Geocities is dead now)

Still from last summer; a quick watercolor of the opening shot of Beauty and the Beast.

Did this one about a year ago. Multiple cut-out collaged layers, mixture of chalk, highlighter, and crayon.

First real big project last year (that I didn't draw at work when I was supposed to be organizing the stockroom) was when I did a set of paintings last Christmas to go with amiibos for my little sibs.

My one brother likes playing as Dedede, so this one went with a Kirby amiibo. I actually don't have a picture of the final version right now because I'm lazy; I just added ropes around the boxing ring and added some snow out the windows and it looks a bit nicer all around. I really like how the texture of Dedede's fur trim came out.

My sister likes playing as Lucina, so I was going to get a Marth, but I didn't get on in time, so I got a Pikachu because she also likes playing as Charizard.

And my other brother likes Little Mac, so he got a Wii Fit Trainer.

Back at work, I did this in January with highlighters, doing a little more experimenting with lighting effects.

Did this in February for a friend; I think he has it up on his wall somewhere (I don't know because I've never actually been too his house because he thinks I'll get shot by rednecks if I get too close). Ever since the Zelda U trailer, I've been drawing Link with more and more hair.

In March, another friend got me a book of drawing prompts to use at work. These are my favorites so far.

Another, slightly sexier Wario (the one I sent when I got my 3DS repaired never got noticed by Nintendo 😢)

There's some pretty huge debates online about whether the original physics are preserved, mostly between people who've never played the game, but the consensus from everyone who's played it is that it feels right, so I'm not worried.

If you don't want to pay $50 extra for a $30 game (it comes in a $50 bundle with a $20 accessory), a $10 cover plate (there's two plates in the bundle, but it has to come with at least one, so you can't really count both of them), and a $1 card, you'd be better off buying a standalone one... assuming they ever release one (which they intentionally haven't announced to scare us into buying the bundle, just like they intentionally didn't announce the Small New to scare us into buying the New XL).

At least new iPhones have different numbers and letters attached to them; they're not just literally called The New iPhone (though they did have The New iPad for a while). In that example, it could've just started with "The iPhone 6s is coming out", but with the New 3DS, the only way to quickly and unambiguously convey your intended meaning is by using unofficial terms -- "The regular-sized New 3DS is coming out (assuming your audience already knows what a New 3DS is and what the regular size of a 3DS is)" or "The new version of the 3DS that has amiibo support built in and is the same size as the non-XL version of the old 3DS is coming out." In Nintendo's promotional materials, they have to use the official terms, so their only option is to say "The New Nintendo 3DS is coming out" and hope people at least notice the capitalization.

and yeah i recognize that it's kind of hypocritical that i want the regular size n3ds because it's pocket size despite willingly switching to a 2ds

Oh, also, it's a year later now and there are only two New 3DS-exclusive games (and both of them are lower-resolution ports of games that were available on other consoles years ago) so maybe I was wrong about the New 3DS being "more Game Boy Color than DSi" (the DSi had four exclusive retail games (though you'd have to buy at least two DSis to play all of them), and there was a lot of DSiWare (still coming out now even)).

I will never understand why they didn't call it the Super 3DS.

"Hey guys, the new #3DS system is finally coming out!"
"What are you talking about? The 3DS isn't new; it came out four years ago."
"No, we're not saying the 3DS is new, we're talking about the New 3DS."
"That came out six months ago."
"No, that was the New 3DS XL. This is the New 3DS."

Anyway, I'm not a huge fan of the Animal Crossing faceplates, so this bundle isn't a great value for me (and only one card? seriously? you couldn't throw in a full 6-pack of cards?). I'm probably just going to cross my fingers and hope they sell it on its own later. I can't guarantee I won't cave and buy one if it's in stock when I go to pick up my Retro 3-pack, though. I picked up a translucent blue 2DS last year when the A button on my Old Small 3DS was going out (it's back now, though) because there aren't enough translucent game consoles anymore, and I really like the 2DS but sometimes I really miss having 3D (on downloaded games, so I'd have to go through a whole system transfer again to play them on my apparently-working Old Small 3DS).
