It's been mentioned several times, but nobody ever made a Steam thread so here it is.

Steam is "a digital distribution, digital rights management, multiplayer and communications platform developed by Valve Corporation. It is used to distribute games and related media online, from small independent developers to larger software houses. Steam also has community features, automated game updates, and in-game voice and chat functionality."

"As of 2010, there are over 1,100 games available through Steam.[3] In January 2010 Valve claimed that it had surpassed 25 million active user accounts.[4] Although Valve never releases sales figures, Steam is estimated to have a 70% share of the digital distribution market for video games.[5]"

"Many major publishers have catalogs on Steam, including Electronic Arts, Activision, 2K Games, Ubisoft, THQ, Sega, Codemasters, id Software, LucasArts, Capcom, Rockstar Games, Square Enix and Bethesda Softworks."

Portal 2
As of this posting Portal 2 costs the following:

The cheapest way to get Portal 2 is via PC DVD for only $29.99, but the PS3 version comes with the Steam version so it is the better value (lol PSN being down).  If anyone has a copy of the PS3 version to sell let me know.

I already gave away all my free copies of Steam games including Portal 1, but if anyone else has extras please post if you want to sell, trade, or simply gift them.

I like how I actually want to play Portal 2 but unlike the first game which I had no real interest in, I don't see myself getting it for free any time soon.

I think my Steam ID is "Mr_Truttle."

The only games I've played on Steam so far are Portal, Aquaria, VVVVVV, and a demo of Audiosurf.

I'm also an admin for the TMK group.

If Frontier extends DSL service to where I live you'll probably see me playing a lot of TF2.

I downloaded it only for Super Meat Boy, so you might not see me on much at all unless I get more games.
The Mario series is the best! It has every genre in video games but RTS'! It also has a plumber who does different roles, a princess, and a lot of odd creatures who don't seem to poop!

Up for any games of BF2, L4D2, CS (any), GTAIV, Borderlands. Just expect me to lag like hell, playing in Australia does that.

And Portal 2 looks freaking beastly. Waiting for it to go down in cost, because thanks to all Aussie games being $90+ RRP Steam is by far the cheapest option for me.

Shadow, there are a lot of people called Walken on Steam.  I only saw one in Australia.  Is this you?  http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198004844609

I noticed this same problem with a few other profile names on Steam and Gamertags on Live.  I'll list/link profiles in the OP.

You can make the URL show up in Staem by:
Steam > Settings > INTERFACE > Display Steam URL address bar when available

In the future would anyone be opposed to a meta profile thread to include Fungi Forums, Steam, Live, PSN, Wii, and etc. usernames, profiles, tags, codes, and etc?

Question: Why do only some of my Steam games have an option for DLC, but when I click it, it says "There is no downloadable content available for this game"?

I've wondered the same thing.  Also some games like Portal have DLC in the game, but the DLC Steam page still gives that message.

I started playing Portal 2 on Saturday, and I think that's the longest I've played a game without turning off the system in recent memory. I mean, compared to some of you guys, I'm sure it's nothing, but I was on there from about five in the morning to two in the afternoon.

I played Twilight Princess until midnight on Christmas, because I had been grounded for something but my parents gave me the holiday "off". I don't remember when I started, but I think I got through all of Snowpeak Ruins and to the boss door of the Temple of Time.

Say, there wouldn't happen to be a "gaming marathons" thread around here, would there?

Question: Why do only some of my Steam games have an option for DLC, but when I click it, it says "There is no downloadable content available for this game"?

Depends on what the game is, but I think Steam doesn't count the DLC for certain games (for example, the L4D DLC) because it's not paid for. It shows up for Borderlands and Bad Company 2 on mine.

On that note, I keep getting updates for Amnesia, but it won't tell me what they are.

Then again, maybe they did and I just... can't remember.

That would only be possible through console cheats because portals dissipate if the surface they're on begins to move.

console cheats
The video even starts with him jumping to a custom map using a console command.

Again, when playing without any of that turned on, portals dissipate automatically if the surface they're on begins to move, or if you place them on a surface that's already moving. There are several places where it's easy to show in the original Portal; for Portal 2, if nothing else, I can remember a couple of testchambers in chapters seven and eight that show it pretty well if you move quickly enough to place portals while the scripted event is occurring. Try playing one of those testchambers, then try playing it again after entering the console commands "sv_cheats 1" (to allow server cheats) and "sv_allow_mobile_portals 1"; to activate the command console, press the tilde key, and if it doesn't come up, go into Options -> Keyboard/Mouse and enable the developer console, then try tilde again.

Captain Jim and I played through the first four courses in Portal 2 co-op last night. It was mad fun and actually surprisingly playable even with my lag. It helps that a lot of the puzzles in co-op aren't particularly reflex-based, and we got through a lot of the ones that were early on (before my lag started to become unbearable).

Highlights included us wasting time getting achievements for doing utterly silly things, Jim engaging in some Tactical Espionage Action that reminded me of one of my favorite sequences from the first game, and BWOP.

The GLaDOS dialogue for co-op is excellent as always, and Atlas and P-Body are adorable.

I'm eager to go back and play more, and I'd love to try to play co-op with some of you guys now that I know it's not the worst thing ever on my connection.

Yeah, I gave co-op a shot with my brother at home last night. The aspect ratio on my crappy TV really takes a beating from the splitscreen, but we otherwise had a good time, and got all the way past the first three sets of test chambers.

Also, just got Steam on both my computers again and was disappointed at how many games don't have cloud saves.  Now I need to find some way to share saves Steam, Scumm, Chrome, Sims3, etc.) on both computers.  I also need to set shared cookies for some online games.  I'm fine with the old Windows sharing way though it's annoying, but my wife and daughter want/need it to be automatic.

Captain Jim and I played more Portal 2 co-op last night to test out my new Internet. It works!

Too bad we couldn't finish playing, because it was 2 AM my time and one of the later maps ended up slowing to a crawl for both of us (Jim needed to update video drivers and my computer sucks).
