In the 2-Player mode, one Game Boy is "Mario" and the other is "Luigi." Depending on which character is representing you, a Mario or Luigi head appears in the upper-right corner of the gameplay screen. At the end of each match, your character will be either jumping (you won) or crying (you lost) in the foreground, while your opponent is seen in the background.
