Two of the four games on this Zelda compilation disc contain Mario cameos/references: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, both previously released for the Nintendo 64. The cameos/references were unchanged in the GameCube versions.

The Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition was only available for free by:

• Registering a Nintendo GameCube and two of four eligible GCN games (Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, Mario Party 5, 1080° Avalanche) at Nintendo.com
• Subscribing to Nintendo Power magazine (or renewing current subscription)
• Purchasing a specially packaged GCN system
