Cameo appearances and references

Link encounters many characters and hazards from the Mario series during his quest.

Mario

At the beginning of the game, you meet Tarin, who is based on Mario. According to the Link's Awakening manual, Tarin "loves mushrooms and often goes to the forest in search of some for his dinner."

Yoshi

The Yoshi Doll that you can win in the Trendy Game starts a trading sidequest.

Chain Chomp

The friendly Chain Chomp is known as "BowWow," which is a direct translation of his Japanese name, "WanWan."

Wart

Wart is known by his Japanese name, "Mamu." Mamu helps you out by teaching you The Frog's Song of Soul.

Bowser

Some side-scrolling areas have stone Bowser heads that you can shoot your hook into.
