In Saffron City, find the girl who mimics everyone. Press A on her Super NES, and you will get this message: "A game with MARIO wearing a bucket on his head!" If you have not figured it out already, this is referring to Mario's role in the Japan-only Mario & Wario game, where you are a fairy with a wand, guiding Mario through a maze to find Luigi. The catch is, Mario cannot see, because Wario drops a bucket (or a barrel, or another object, depending on the stage) on Mario's head before each stage.

This same line appears in Pokémon Blue, Red, and Yellow versions.
