Months before the game's release, promotional artwork of a Rabbid dressed as Mario appeared in Nintendo Power and Game Informer. The Rabbid's costume even includes Mario's trademark mustache, but the hat has a "B" instead of an "M."

On page 18 of Nintendo Power vol. 217 (July 2007), the Rabbid is reading a "Nintendo Plunger" magazine. In the July 2007 issue of Game Informer, the Rabbid is posed differently and holding a sausage on page 81. Game Informer noted that there would be a Mario costume available for the Rabbids; unfortunately, it was either cut from the game or never officially planned.
