This bespectacled Koopa first appeared in Super Mario Bros., riding about in his smiling cloud, happily tossing Spiny Eggs on Mario's head. His role has stayed more or less the same over the years, although starting with SMW, Mario now posesses the ability to steal the cloud and ride it himself.

As well as being a formidable foe, Lakitu is also a prominent figure in the Mario sports community. Over the years, he has taken on the roles of camera man, referee, announcer, and traffic cop, to name a few.
