MarioMario is the star of most "Mario" games, and is usually the character that is directly controlled by the player. A human originally from outside the Mushroom World, Mario is repeatedly called upon by the Mushroom people to save them from the tyranny of Bowser. Mario has a twin brother named Luigi, but the rest of his family is unknown. His main love interest is Princess Toadstool, whom he repeatedly saves from the unwanted affections of Bowser, but in the past Mario has also rescued other damsels such as Pauline and Daisy. Mario is well-known for his famous jumping skills, as well as his kindness and bravery, and is a hero to the Mushroom people. Despite being surrounded by a diverse cast of colorful characters, Mario rarely speaks and usually communicates through body language.
