The Jesus coming back as Hitler one was funny in a dark absurdist way (though it's gotten less funny and more dark now that it seems like that's almost what you actually believe), but that one with the noodle people with the hair is lame and annoying. And I'm not saying that just because I disagree with it, I'm saying it because it's on the same level as these:

Poorly drawn jokeless cartoons are annoying and stupid regardless of the ideological point they're making.

I'm not saying these are Foxtrot or Calvin and Hobbes-level stuff, but they're certainly better cartoons than that noodle people one. Basically, have an actual joke and don't make all the characters look like overdramatic ******bags. And most of all, cartoonists should never pat themselves on the back for winning an argument against a character they invented. Which is tough to avoid when the only reason the cartoonist started doing the comic was to deliver political and/or religious arguments in an unscrutinized medium.

And while those ReverendFun cartoons certainly aren't real fit for this topic, I think the guidelines can still apply. The thread is "You OMG, You Lose," not "You Get Annoyed By ******y Cartoon Characters Arguing With Strawmen, You Lose." If you actually want a debate about whether God rapes people, take it to NatDT. If you want to post cartoons, post cartoons that are actual cartoons. Like that first one. That first one was perfect for this thread. It had an actual joke, it didn't pat itself on the back for how clever it was, and it had shock value (which seems to be the point of the thread). It's kinda hard to be shocked when you're annoyed. I mean, did you actually think anyone was going to lose to the noodle people one? Did you really think Turtlekid was going to be shocked that someone on the internet in 2011 would dare to say God is mean?

I originally had no plans to continue posting images in a regular fashion, but then saw the second comic posting on 9GAG and really liked it so I had to share it somewhere.

I don't think Jesus and Hitler are/were the same person by any stretch. I only reused the God/Jesus (or lack there of) and Hitler references because they were in the first post. After the second one I thought it'd be interesting to alternate between the two, but soon ran of of material.

The last comic was indeed lame. I posted it in a desperate attempt to continue the theme while keeping the comic, comment, comic, comment, ... order going. After Turtlekid1's post I kind of agreed with him so I stopped posting.

By the way, I'm not anti-theist. You may say I fluctuate between backsliding Baptist and agnostic, but this thread is not a good example of either nor is it the place for that discussion.

Those ReverendFun comics are awesome! Thanks.

Edit: Arthur Fellig posted while I was typing the above. I don't like locking threads, but I'll stop posting in it for now and if it goes away that'd be fine with me. If not anyone/everyone else is free to continue or change the theme as long as it fits the title.

It was apparently a traditional date for many sun festivals, and at some point, someone decided to Christianize the festival, and the Weird Al effect kicked in. Maybe. There's actually not a whole lot of evidence that the sun festivals even predate Christmas.
The actual date of his birth, as best as we can tell, was most likely some time in the spring or early summer.
(From what I read, there's no solid evidence that Mithra was believed to have been born on December 25th either. It's just assumed that he was because he was a sun god.)

In ten minutes of casual Googling, I didn't notice any references for Krishna and Horus having stars (I did find a guy saying that he couldn't find any evidence for Horus having a star either, though), so I don't know if the direction actually matters (doubtful, considering how big of a stretch some of the other stuff in that list is), but it shows how much effort the creator of that list put into his or her research.

- "Performed miracles"? Really? Supernaturality itself is evidence of plagiarism?

- Mithra's "virgin birth" was that he came out of a rock.

- Krishna's "crucifixion" was being shot in the foot with an arrow, and dying underneath a tree.

- Horus's "virgin birth" was that his mother, a goddess, put together the cut-up pieces of her dead god husband and magically brought him back to life and also made him a new penis out of gold because his old one got eaten by a fish, and then zombie Goldmember got her pregnant.

- Horus's "twelve disciples" were four gods and maybe sixteen humans.

- Horus's "crucifixion" was a scorpion sting. He was resurrected by some dude, not by his own power.

But Christians are the ones who oversimplify (Seriously, "performed miracles"?).

But yeah, very selective editing by the maker of that jpeg, in the parts where it's not just making stuff up wholesale (though it's more likely it was all just copied from Zeitgeist or whatever.). There are some claims out there that some parts of those guys' stories were more similar to Jesus's, but those claims and/or interpretations pretty much all originate within the last few centuries, and typically have far less historical support than, say, the empty tomb and post-death appearances of Jesus of Nazareth. If one's standards for historicity are so low as to accept unquestioningly that ancient Egyptians believed Horus was crucified on an ankh, as that guy's apparently are, it is then incredibly intellectually dishonest to reject the much better-attested historicity of Jesus.

And personally, I wouldn't necessarily have a problem with mythologies with similarities to Jesus -- I mean, beyond big general archetypical stuff like "they both perform miracles" and "they both have power over death" and "they're both shiny and in heaven and live forever" -- as I'm becoming somewhat partial to C.S. Lewis's view of Christianity as "the true myth." But that's another story.
