Title: The Rat Cellar
Post by: Lizard Dude on October 25, 2007, 01:09:30 AM
Seeing as Guitar Hero III hits on Sunday and people have been clogging up other threads with GH talk, we really need a thread for GH-related banter!

First of all, if you haven't already, you can sign-up on www.guitarhero.com (http://www.guitarhero.com) and join our group, Feeding Me Bread. When we're in the same group, we can compare scores and such across platforms.

I played the 5-song demo from Xbox Live and each song rocked hard. Neversoft done 'er good. I 5-starred them all first try. ^_^

I was looking at the achievements, and a scary amount of them require playing through the entire career (with stuff like being the 2nd player or using Lefty mode or using the freaking controller). There are also three or so that involve winning 15 consecutive ranked online matches! Make sure to try to do these before your TrueSkill gets high and you have to face good people.

The game also contains the second-evilest achievement I have ever seen. You must play and beat a developer of the game. As seen here (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/g/guitarhero3legendsofrock/gh3weekend/default.htm), said devs will only be playing from 6-9 PM EST Nov. 2 Friday. I will pray to Apollo every day that I manage to earn this achievement. Failure will result in not being able to 1000/1000 GH3 ever.

I really wish I had a 360. No, LD, I'm not going to go steal one like you suggested.

I'm probably going to be stuck with the PS2 version, unless my dad continues with his stupid idea that my siblings and I want SingStar more than GHIII (which is incorrect, because it seems like my siblings don't care about music games at all, and I would much rather play pretend guitar on 70 songs than not-pretend sing on 36), in which case it'll be an even longer wait (and I wasn't even going to be able to own the game until Christmas at the earliest, anyway). I might be able to get one of my friends to let me borrow it if his parents will get over their stupid thing about borrowing games...

Despite having owned Guitar Hero 1 & 2 ever since they came out, I've only recently begun to become obsessed with it due to my quest to master Hard mode. Eventually, I plan to get 100% on every single song on Expert. Yeah.

By the way,

The game also contains the second-evilest achievement I have ever seen. You must play and beat a developer of the game. As seen here (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/g/guitarhero3legendsofrock/gh3weekend/default.htm), said devs will only be playing from 6-9 PM EST Nov. 2 Friday. That's just cruel. I know a friend that would do literally anything for even a chance to get that Achievement.

Actually, I have been talking to some people more knowledgable about 360 than I, and they say that other games have had achievements like this and if you beat someone who has the achievement, you also get it. So it spreads virally and becomes very widespread.

Yeah, I've heard of achievements like that in F.E.A.R. and Tony Hawk's Project 8. Viral achievements rewl.

By the way, out of curiosity, I noticed you said "second-evilest". What's the most-evilest-est?

Robotron: 2084 has an achievement to get in the top 5 on the leaderboard.

That's right, top 5 in the world.

Post by: Luigison on October 28, 2007, 07:00:41 PM
I got it today, but only had time to play three songs.  My scores weren't that good though.  It's hard to be a rock star while baby sitting.  Anyway, I used the link code, but my stuff isn't showing up on the website yet.  I guess I have to connect to Nintendo Wifi from the game again.  Also, what is the phone jack on the guitar for?  I didn't see it mentioned in the book.

Edit:  Site is updating now.  My friend code is 356596997392.  I just played Sunshine Of Your Love (with the volume low since everyone else is asleep), and I can't believe I missed a note on easy.  I see that LD went straight for expert.  I'm starting at easy and going through all levels to prolong my time with the game.  BTW, I like how they use the Wiimote speaker.  It really threw me when I made my first mistake.

I'm guessing that the scoretracking is for PS3/360 only, so, being a PS2 player, I'm left out. I guess you'll just have to take my word that I got a gajillion points and 100% on every song on Expert.
Title: Re: The Rat Cellar
Post by: Luigison on October 28, 2007, 09:50:45 PM
The site also tracks Wii scores.  Good jorb.

Edit:  For some reason the site hasn't updated any of my scores today.  Also I had the game lock up when one the difficulty menu after having tried to view the Wifi message of the day.
Edit 2:  Nvmd.  Seems I somehow I had went back through the menus and got into the Wifi menu without it logging in.

I finally beat the evil final boss. It takes a massive amount of skill (okay) and luck (NOT okay!). Strangely, after about 20 fails, I beat it twice in a row.

I haven't gotten past 1% on Through the Fire and Flames yet. I don't think I'll really work at it until giving a good shot at 5-starring everything else.
Title: Re: The Rat Cellar
Post by: Glorb on November 01, 2007, 01:45:46 PM
GH3's final boss has to be up there with Ares and Mother Brain. Seriously, "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" is like "Bark at the Moon" and "Free Bird" all rolled into one.

Speaking of TTFAF, I managed to get three stars on that on Hard, and, just for laughs, decided to try it on Expert. Then I saw all the notes coming down and just about went into the fetal position.
Title: Re: The Rat Cellar

I had much much more trouble with GH3 than Ares on God difficulty or Mother Brain in the original Metroid. XD

I'm still stuck on Raining Blood. My Wiimote batteries are dead though, so I can't play now.
Title: Re: The Rat Cellar
Post by: Luigison on November 03, 2007, 05:19:10 PM
Raining Blood is the only song on easy that I haven't five-starred.  I've only played it twice though.

I'm only playing when my daughter is asleep and my wife isn't using the TV so I'm not getting much game time in.  When I do I'm mostly getting perfects on easy and completing other difficulty levels.

The website is woefully lacking in updates of my completion percent and recently lost character, guitar, and other data.  I play as Slash with the Moonshot guitar.

Lizard Dude, did you play a developer?

Nah, I totally spaced and thought the dev day was today, Saturday, but it was actually yesterday. Oh well, I now know that it's a viral achievement and I'll naturally get it soon enough.

That one section in the beginning of it is a killer though. I mean it will chew you up and spit you out. I only managed to pass it with the help of star power.

Also, my FC is 5455 7563 3557.
Title: Re: The Rat Cellar
Post by: Luigison on November 08, 2007, 10:36:47 PM
The website is still messed up.  Yesterday the site still did not show me using Slash or the Moonshot guitar.  Last night I beat Raining Blood on easy giving me five stars on all 42 songs on easy.  This unlocked a new guitar that I promptly bought and used to beat all 42 songs on medium.  I also change characters.  Now the site has finally updated my info from last time I posted (Slash and Moonshot), but not my info as of last night.  I don't see how it takes so long to update data and why it doesn't update to the latest data.  It'd seems to be logging everything, but taking days if not a week to update.  Also, on my rocker status by my login it still shows "Indie", but lower on the page it says I'm a "Rocker".  Are other versions (360 and PS3) having the same lag on the site?

I noticed earlier this week that our group was ranked about 100.  Was this a worldwide ranking?  If so, good job.  It's still cool if it was only an American ranking.  Anyway, we've since dropped to about 685.

Does anyone know anyone else on the TMK forums that plays GHIII (not PS2), but doesn't know about "Feeding Me Bread"?  I'm asking because the title, "The Rat Cellar" may have been missed by a few GH players.

Edit:  Is there a certain way I should be logging in or exiting to insure that my data is sent to the site in a timely manner?
Title: Re: The Rat Cellar
Post by: bobman37 on November 09, 2007, 12:39:37 AM
I read an article on Wikipedia about how there's a ton of lag on the website due to the massive amounts of traffic they've been getting since the release of GH3, which means a long wait time for updates to take place. I'm not sure if they've already fixed the problem or not, but if not, then that's probably the issue.

I used to be very good at GH back in the day, but I didn't play it for a year. Now I'm absolutely dreadful! If you guys are guitar heroes, then call me a guitar zero. Waaahh.

Well, as of currrentness I'm missing my guitar controller due to a malfunction of its innards, and am waiting to get a new one for Christmas (because paying for it myself is totally lame). I've taken this as an opportunity to brush up on my skills with the standard DualShock controller, which are pathetic. I have a hard time getting anything but the orange button, because most games don't have you pressing the shoulder buttons at a jillion times per minute.

I'm a little ashamed of the fact that I have more groupies than SolidShroom.  I guess it's because I have some many five-star and perfect songs on easy and medium, but I've only played three hard song and none on expert.

I think you read my post wrong or I wrote it poorly.  I'll copy and paste from the site:

Luigison
Groupies: 527

SolidShroom
Groupies: 514

I meant that based on the number of groupies (my 527 > your 514) it would appear that I'm a better Guitar Hero than you and I doubt that's true because you've 95% on expert, but I haven't even played on expert.

Oh. Haha never mind. It's because I cannot stand to play easy or normal. Although, I'm trying to beat normal with lefty flip on (but still holding it like a righty).

FINALLY I beat Raining Blood on Expert. Now it's time for the super omega hard boss battle.

Edit #2: Never mind, I beat it.

So I was in a Guitar Hero tournament today at my school. Double elimination, winner of the loser's bracket plays the winner of the winner's bracket.

First song was something I forget on medium. I got 100%. It was easy.
Then we played some song on Hard. I won easily.
Then we played Jessica on Hard. I lost to a kid that got 100% and I missed one note in a SP phrase.
Then I played my rival on Sweet Child of Mine on Hard. I missed a note in the first SP phrase and he got ahead by 30,000 points, then I nailed a sick solo with an 8x multiplier, and he screwed up the solo. I won in the end. It was insane.
Then the kids in the loser's bracket (including me) played Madhouse on Hard, and the kids in the winner's bracket had a "bye" during this part. I won. Easily. That made me the top dog in the loser's bracket.

We were supposed to play three GH2 songs and two GH3 songs for the finals, but time was short so they cut it down to one song: Through the Fire and Flames.

I had never played this song before. I was to play the kid that beat me on Jessica. He apparently owns Guitar Hero 3 and I had only been playing since Monday (not counting the last two days, my 360 guitar broke). so Through the Fire and Flames was a sightread for me, and he already had it down for the most part.

Also they were to decide it by percent of notes hit, not total points. He hit 84%, I got 75%. I'm not that upset because 75% on my first time ever playing TTFaF on Expert is insane.

I'm guessing the adapter comes with, right? Or else I'll be quite unhappy.

And speaking of this Guitar-Hero thing yalls is talkin bout, I'm rather disappointed with GH4 so far. I mean, do we REALLY need a drum and mic? Really? I'm all for character, guitar and song creation, but shoehorning in Rock Band gameplay is just stupid. It's post-GTAIII gaming all over again.
Title: Re: The Rat Cellar
Post by: bobman37 on May 29, 2008, 04:37:50 PM
But it's required. If they want to have any chance of competing with Rock Band, they need to include the two extra instrument peripherals.

I don't want to have to buy another whole 200 dollar band setup, but I might anyway just because the new drumset looks sweeeet. Two elevated cymbals, a snare, two toms and a bass pedal? I don't think I can pass that up.
Title: Re: The Rat Cellar
Post by: SolidShroom on May 29, 2008, 05:26:37 PM
Given that the drums and vocals pwn the guitar and bass on Rock Band, it's evident that we do need them in Guitar Hero IV.
Title: Re: The Rat Cellar
Post by: Glorb on May 29, 2008, 05:44:20 PM
Do we really? It's called Guitar Hero for a reason; adding in drums and vocals will put guitar down on the priority list. What they need to do is make the drums and vocals a separate add-on for rich folks so us poor people don't have to pay $170+ for a previously $90 game.

They should also divide the song list into songs recommended for each instrument, as well as the whole band (that would be five setlists), or maybe have an icon next to each song recommending the instruments. This way they can implement instrument-centric songs without dragging down the whole game.
Title: Re: The Rat Cellar

GH4 will surely be available disc-only for $60 at launch. Even Rock Band came out disc-only day 1, before you could buy Rock Band instruments seperately!
Title: Re: The Rat Cellar
Post by: Glorb on May 29, 2008, 06:07:07 PM
What I meant was a game/guitar version for $90 day one, with drums and mics (as well as second guitar, of course) available separately for however much they cost. But best-case scenario would be five versions available on day one (disc-only, disc w/one kind of instrument, disc w/all instruments).
Title: Re: The Rat Cellar
Post by: bobman37 on May 29, 2008, 11:12:35 PM
disc w/one kind of instrument
mmm... If at all, they'll probably have disc, separate instruments, full bundle. But the likely format will be disc-only and full bundle.

The real question is whether they have the rights to Harmonix bands from 1 & 2 appearances. And if they don't, would Harmonix employees re-license their stuff back for Activision use?

I would have given a firm, "of course not" until the day I saw a Freezepop song in GHOT.

I'm going to get it because I don't really have constant access to/like getting DLC, and I've stuck to the "main series" (I only have GH3 and WT).

Hey, one of the first posts on this thread from Luigison is one of the questions I've been wanting to know also:

WTH is the phone jack input on the bottom of GHIII (360/Wii) guitars for? You know, the white, angle-y guitar called the "X-Plorer."

Haha, is the X-Plorer guitar capable of 56k speeds? Maybe it's secretly a computer with Win95 on it... Red Octane and Gibson just doesn't want us to know that.

I always figured you could connect it to the system via ethernet or something in case the wireless wasn't working.

Nuh-uh, the port for the guitar is small. Haha, for real, I just found my old phone cord and it fits in there.

The ethernet port for the 360 is wider, more rectangular, and if I'm not mistaken, actually a bit shorter height-wise.

5 seconds of research states that it's a port for a forthcoming(?) effects pedal.

Least it wasn't my 5 seconds, I suppose..?

Perhaps it'll be a Dunlop Crybaby for all of the folks who don't realize it's not a real instrument and whine about it.

It's probably for the same peripheral that plugs into that superfluous DS port... ;)

Ah.

Half the reason I said that was because I figured something did plug into there and I really wanted to know what it was...

Haha, I wonder how Sammy Hagar feels--there are no songs from his era on there. It's only the good era of Van Halen. But man, this game looks like it's going to be pretty hard.

Oh, I've been meaning to say, I had this terrible premonition that, when GH: Van Halen sees commercial release it'll have better graphics and/or more songs.

I mean, the only other option is that Activision seriously thinks that people will pay $50 for that game.

Nah. It's fun, it's just very crudely done.

But hey, maybe it'll be $30-$40... and maybe I'll stop making dirty jokes.

The impending release of TTFAF has me booting up RB3 and checking out some of my backlog. I just played "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" by Meat Loaf and then "Airbrushed" by Anamanaguchi and was almost crying from the awesome. This is why rhythm games are #1 in my heart: they can deliver that feeling over and over again whereas it's an extreme rarity in other games. The only things that ever come close are Shinji Mikami games and Shu Takumi games (particularly Ghost Trick) and I suppose the endings of SMRPG and FFIX and maybe the FFVI opera scene. That's ten or so times in my entire life for non-rhythm while in Space Channel 5, for instance, you feel that way through the ENTIRE GAME.

Extremely good matches in fighting/FPS/RTS can feel very good too, but that's sort of a different feeling. More adrenaline and less tingling.

I LOVE RHYTHM GAMES

From which component of rhythm games do you get that feeling? Is it from the musical aspect, where you're enjoying the actual song so much it makes the experience so special? Or is it the technical part, that you're nailing difficult rhythms through a full combo? I understand both sides, I'm curious which one's driving you more.

GTR SOLO D of "Operation Ground and Pound" is the hardest motha****in' sequence of notes I've ever seen in an electronic guitar rhythm music videogame. I haven't been this flummoxed by a chunk of a song since "Jordan" (accounting for skill inflation).

So, I haven't kept up with the songs released, but what would you guess it is? I would figure smething classic, hit the widest audience. Something like Bohemian Rhapsody, but I feel like that's already been done.

Post by: WarpRattler on February 06, 2012, 11:12:17 PM
"Bohemian Rhapsody" is in RB3, yeah. There's an achievement for getting perfect harmonies throughout the entire song, too.

I need to play more RB3.

Also, rereading this thread, the bit about the effects pedal port on the 360 Guitar Hero controller is funny, because the beatmania IIDX home controllers have the same thing for the same reason (though, it would've been used for beatmania III, which never got a home port).
