So, what are your particular favorite genres of music? I realize this list is far from comprehensive, but I didn't want to spend al day typing in every little sub-sub-sub genre or scene like emo-ambient or jazz-metal or country-house*.
*See "Cotton-Eye Joe" by Rednex. Or rather, don't.

Where is the option for "video game music"?
-
That's missing as well as some other categories like Singers and Songwriters, Lounge, Videogame or Scatmusic, showtunes and other unclassifiable music. Anything but Radio Hip-Hop, all rap, all heavy Metal and Country music, anything else I like.
-
I voted classic rock, alternative rock, blues, classic hip-hop, electronic, ambient, other, jazz, classical, and the mash-up genres.
Video game music is not a genre. It's an umbrella term that includes basically anything (see: The World Ends With You).
-
I love classical. It's very soothing to listen to when working or when relaxing.
-
A lot of mine weren't there, for example: Folk, Folk Rock, Psychedelic Folk, Psychedelic, Psychedelic Rock
One thing that annoys me is people calling Pink Floyd "Classic Rock". It's not, it's psychedelic.
-
I believe "Classic Rock" covers psychedelic rock. I seem to think of Pink Floyd as more progressive than psychedelic. Anyway, I chose Alternative Rock, Blues, Classic Hip-Hop, Electronic (in general), Jazz, Classical, and "I enjoy all musical genres."
-
What about Soft Rock, Pop, and New Age, for that matter? Or Religious, or Latin, or.... The list goes on, but those are some pretty major music genres. Entire radio stations are dedicated to those genres, and they're not even up there.
NONE of my favorite genres are up there.
-
I find "other/misc. in general" to be much too vague. I found more than 10 options to pick, also. I suppose I could have just chosen "all" but that's kind of an inaccurate sampling method for a poll.
P.S. Religious isn't a genre. It's just subject matter. They use pre-existing styles. In whatever time period you want to talk about except the middle ages.
-
It's most certainly a genre, just not a style. The poll is about genres, not styles, even though they're generally used interchangably.
-
I'm going to pull the music history card and state that they mean the same thing.
-
Latin can be applied to several genres - Latin Rock, Latin Hip-Hop (Cypress Hill is my favorite), etc. Ditto for psychedelic, religious, etc. Like I said, this isn't a massive genre genealogy chart; figure out what major genre what your favorite style fits into and pick that, I guess (for example, Soft Rock and Pop fall under general rock).
-
Shouldn't funk, soul and rhythm & blues be in this list? Their absence has caused James Brown to scowl in disapproval.

Classic Rock covers bands like Creedance Clearwater Revival, not Pink Floyd, the Psychedelic band.
-
Radio stations and sane people disagree. Classic rock is a blanket term to mean anything from the late '60s through the '70s.
-
"Sane people", huh? Suppose I'll just crawl back into my padded cell until later.
But really, then what of that Rihanna or whatever the kids are listening to these days? And let's not forget some sort of classification for pop standard singers like Frank Sinatra...
-
My favourite genres are classic rock and rock. Queen is the bes band ever. Some other bands I really like are Led Zeppelin, Lynard Skynard, Pink Floyd and Linking Park.
-
I hate the term Classic rock, but I like most of the music so whatever. I'm starting to like alternative rock and punk, too. Alternative hip hop is also awesome.
-
Journey, Kansas, Asia, Dream Theater, and the soundtrack to Plok. Put those together and make a genre out of it and that'd be my vote.
Also the TWEWY soundtrack and Pillar. And a little bit of Powerline and Steve McClintock.
-
I'll take anything from the birth of rock 'n' roll in the mid-50's up until popular music's great dive into the crap vat somewhere during the mid-to-late-80's.
No offense. Unless you happen to enjoy contemporary radio programming, of course. My bad.
-
Haha, radio.
-
>:(
I really dig '80s music. Also, "hippie-rap" and "edgy children's music" should be choices. I mean, what else are artists like Laura Goldhamer (http://myspace.com/lauragoldhamer) supposed to be classified as?

Acoustic/Folk/Blues?
-
Rao, they're in "various other unclassifiable mashup genres," just like much of the The World Ends With You OST, a lot of They Might Be Giants stuff, and "Time Warp" by Brad Paisley.
-
My favorite music genres are:
Rock
Rap
Pop (Technopop?)
Gospel
House
Trance
Classical
Video game music
I enjoy all musical genres ...except for polka.
-
"edgy children's music"
I have to hear some of this.

Question of the century: What would Shooby Taylor, "the Human Horn" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wm7SKIlyNuU&feature=related) be classified as?
-
Psychedelic Rock, Jazz, classical, Rock in general, but there are a few subgenres that I don't really care for. And I like the various unclassified video game music.
-
I really enjoy almost any music from the 80's, some songs from They Might Be Giants, and random others as well. I don't really have a particualr classification of music that I listen to, unless game music counts.
-
To me, game music is just any genre that happens to be in a game, unless it's a distinctively videogame-ish genre like chiptunes. Same goes for movies.
-
Modern game music generally has little to no trouble fitting into a definite genre, but the same can't be said for, say, the original SMB theme...
-
Some people would notice a startling similarity between early electronic music from the 60s and video game music from the 80s. I say that synthesized video game music belongs in the category of electronic music. But that's a sketchy way to define music, because that just refers to the instruments, not the notation or rhythm or anything. For example, some Sonic the Hedgehog music is clearly influenced by P-Funk.
-
Methinks Weegee doesn't really listen to a lot of "modern game music".
-
By "modern", I mean that they're generally fully orchestrated and arranged to include stylistic elements of actual, definable music genres. I can't think of any examples off the bat, but... yeah.
-
If I find anything good, I might listen to it, but I mainly listen to Gangsta Rap and Classic Hip-Hop. Most of Hip-Hop/Rap nowadays isn't too lyrical or enjoyable, with the exception of a few artists.
-
I love rock, and I mean real rock. I don't think any of these new pop groups can be classified as "bands" because they don't play instruments. But I do love the old classics like Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Alice Cooper, etc. Folk like Neil Young and Bob Dylan, and Psychadelic like the Beatles.
I also love Canadian rock groups such as Tragically Hip, 54-40, Crash Test Dummies, Barenaked Ladies...I urge you to check them out.
-

Are you like stuck in the late nineties or something?
-
I have a vintage personality...and yes I love the 90s
-

Kirby Air Ride (I think), Super Mario Galaxy, SSB Brawl

This statement actually does make a lot of sense. Bands play live instruments. Groups usually don't.
-
Too bad there's no such thing as Chiptune Rock.
-
Ooh! Ooh! I forgot Nightwish! I like them too.
-
nensondubois: Uh, Crystal Castles or 8-Bit Weapon?
bullykoopa: The '90s are not vintage.
Also, when was the last time one of these "groups" was popular?
-
I didn't say they were...I love 60s 70s and 80s rock, but I do love the 90s as well
-
I'm just gonna go ahead and say that I like all music.
