Title: Mario Sprite Sheet Challenge (VOTING CLOSED)
Post by: Ultima Shadow on December 14, 2005, 11:40:53 PM
Hey, everyone! Welcome to the first TMK Mario Sprite Sheet Challenge! I'll be your host, Ultima Shadow! Unfortunately, the contest is over... here are the results!

FINAL ENTRIES

DK and Rambi Rider by Super Sonic Yoshi
URL: http://img39.imageshack.us/img39/3441/dkrambirider2vf.png

DBZ Mario Brothers, SMW style by SSJ3 Mario Brothers
URLS: http://www2.filehost.to/files/2005-12-27_01/004054_Spritesheet.png
&
http://www2.filehost.to/files/2005-12-27_01/001959_Evil_Sprites.png (These sheets are counted as one)

Fighting Sprites, SMW Style by Metal Slug Mario (Attachment Number 1)

3rd place goes to the Dragonball Z-esque Mario Brothers sheet by SSJ3 Mario Brothers! Containing a large amount of poses, it was a great idea, but, unfortunately, didn't receive many votes.

2nd place goes to the Fighting Mario sheet by Metal_Slug_Mario! It may not have had as many poses as SSJ3MB's sheet, but it was extremely versatile and could easily be used for a fighting fangame! Great job!

And, finally... the first place ribbon goes to...

Supersonic_Yoshi and his DK Rambi Rider sheet!

This sheet had the least amount of poses, but was excellently designed, clear, and completely custom made! Showing true spriting prowess, it is a fine example of the computer artistry that TMK's members can produce.

Thanks everyone for entering the competition! Well, that's all, folks! See ya!

Aw, I have the M&L style down good, but this is a good idea. I already have a sheet, can I enter it?

Enter any time you want. You can only enter one sheet, but if you revise it or build a better sheet, you can replace that entry.

Wait, can we enter previously made sprites?  Or how long do I have to sprite a new one?

EDIT: here's an old sheet of mine if I can.  I entered it in a sprite compo on another forum.  It got an impressive vote tally of...0!

I never understood why the sprite authors always say "give credit."

What is the credit!?!

BTW, great DK sprites.

If you make a fan game with them or comic ect., you can't claim them as your own, or your stealing them, this also counts if you don't give any credit.
Title: Re: Mario Sprite Sheet Challenge

I know that, but what is credit?

Put their names in the credits.

Okay, I've upated the first post to include any sheets you post. Keep in mind, however, that a sheet, for example, with a custom Wario with the WL4 car will be classified as Custom.

Doesn't seem to be many spriters 'round here...

Okay, everyone, don't be afraid to enter any sheets you've done, even if they're bad. I mean, if you get a good place, you might have more confidence in your spriting and produce better work!

But, that's if you're a bad spriter. :)

I mean, if you get a good place, you might have more confidence in your spriting and produce better work!

Then again, if you get dead last, it'll probably tear your spirit in half and you'll never have the guts to pick up a (virtual) pen again. Sorry, facts of life. :P

Go ahead and put my avatar on the "Edited" sprites list. I already know I have no talent, so it's no biggie.

might as well try this competetion... why not?
mines of mario in various battle stances from SMW

This probably will lose anyway...

Wait a second... What are the prizes???
Title: Re: Mario Sprite Sheet Challenge
Post by: Ultima Shadow on December 23, 2005, 10:37:18 PM
Cash, unfortunately I need a whole sheet, instead of just one pose.

Everyone, thanks for entering, and the prize is the prestigious title of the best spriter. Or, I might try to find a better prize, but I can't promise anything.

Sweet! I've been waiting for a competition like this! Check out these babies of mine:

http://www2.filehost.to/files/2005-12-27_01/004054_Spritesheet.png
&
http://www2.filehost.to/files/2005-12-27_01/001959_Evil_Sprites.png

Those are both part of one large spritesheet I made. It includes:
Mario and Luigi as Super Saiya-jins, 1, 2 and 3.
Evil versions of Mario and Luigi, with all the same forms.
Several different poses for them, including Kamehameha-style stuff.
Plus a few of Marigi, a fusion of Mario and Luigi.

These would be edited sprites. These together are one entry, but if I have to combine them for it to count(however redundant that would be)I can.

P.S. If you have Animal Crossing: Wild World, I accept items and money as prizes. ;)

Don't hesitate to enter your sheets, everyone. I've decided they don't have to be of characters, so you can enter items, karts, buildings or even backgrounds.

BTW, Bigluigifan1.0, are you going to enter that sheet of yours?

The topic's alive again!!

... but we've only got three entries, unless we somehow get Mariofan7 back, and we get Bigluigifan1.0 to post his sprites... *hint hint*

Title: Re: Mario Sprite Sheet Challenge (Now accepting non-character sprites)
Post by: Ultima Shadow on January 02, 2006, 03:21:51 PM
A sprite sheet is a picture filled with various poses of a video game character. Look at the previous sheets- they've got several different poses. Also, the sheets for this contest have to be made by yourself, or edited. Also, there has to be more than one pose, background, or whatever. So, that's how sprite sheets are made. (I think)

Does anyone here know about the sprite comic Wario Comix? I miss that site.

How do you make sprites?
Title: Re: Mario Sprite Sheet Challenge (Now accepting non-character sprites)
Post by: Ambulance Y on January 08, 2006, 02:14:22 PM
I use paint.
Title: Re: Mario Sprite Sheet Challenge (Now accepting non-character sprites)
Post by: Ultima Shadow on January 08, 2006, 05:06:48 PM
You can also use Photoshop.
Title: Re: Mario Sprite Sheet Challenge (Now accepting non-character sprites)
Post by: SSJ3 Mario Brothers on January 10, 2006, 12:10:20 PM
I also use Paint. I've tried Photoshop, but I never took the time to figure out how to get it to stop blurring everything. I couldn't get it to all be one solid color and such. Paint is just much easier.

When is this contest gonna end? This is just sad, no one is posting here!

I'm gonna finish it on the 16th. Then, I'll add a poll, and you vote.
