Video Game Chat / Re: Earthbound/Mother Port/Remake on the Horizon?
« on: March 04, 2013, 12:45:16 AM »
I could shout until I'm blue for Nintendo to release it in America, but it probably won't happen. Rather, from the wording it makes me wonder if the first game (Mother, "EarthBound Zero") is getting a re-release. It deserves to be worked on so it's not as difficult, but I'd especially like to see its world with updated graphics. I believe the first game has one of the most beautiful game maps ever (more for how gigantic it is), and I'd love to explore that without bumping into dogs or crows every 10 seconds.

I don't see anything particularly unmarketable about the games (and still think whoever owns the Beatles wouldn't give a hoot about references to it in EB), perhaps it was just ahead of its time, with Nintendo too scared of a lack of sales to ever try that again.

Mario Chat / Re: Holy crap Mario's Picross rules
« on: March 04, 2013, 12:31:47 AM »
Glad that Picross is finally getting some recognition, I love that type of puzzle. There's just something about staring blankly at a board for 15 minutes, then filling/crossing one square that cascades to solving another huge chunk of the puzzle. For whatever reason, I find Picross puzzles much easier to solve than Sudoku (not necessarily faster to solve, but easier to spot patterns). Only trouble is that I prefer the bigger grids now. When I got a book with Japanese puzzles in it, I just skipped to the last one and solved that first.

General Chat / Re: Speed Test
« on: May 05, 2012, 03:30:11 PM »
You're right. Mine's out maybe 3% of the time. Traditionally goes out whenever there's a heavy rain or it's overcast. Get blackouts about four times a year, around wintertime. Sometimes resetting the modem doesn't work, more a question of whether the webpage will arrive before the thing times out. $60 a month for 250 MB per day, and the competing services admit they can't do any better than that. Maybe it is a big hassle to get proper internet out to the last mile, maybe it was a big mistake after all to move out to someplace less populated with cheaper housing. But I still feel it's ridiculous that this is acceptable. It's not the lack of speed that bothers me, it's how low the cap is. I swear at some point mobile phones will have better plans than rural internet does.

I'm on satellite internet, out in the sticks, so... yeah, it's pretty lousy. Thanks a lot, lack-of-competition-or-cable-in-rural-nowheresville. I'm not anywhere near Kansas, but the servers closer to me honestly aren't any faster.

That's pretty good, but it bugs the heck out of me that Hudson Horstachio is being called Franklin.

I'm not knowledgeable about Sony characters... guess I'd nominate Amaterasu, although she's already in the Capcom game. Sly's already in, I'd definitely go for him. What about the King of All Cosmos from Katamari Damacy, could he make it in? As an end boss at least?

I voted for counter-clockwise.
Then later it seemed like it was going clockwise and I can't switch back.

As much as I liked Mario Bandstand, I have to give the nod to Bumper Balls. There's nothing more tense than having a lack of momentum and someone else barreling toward you while you're teetering on the edge.

Forum Games / Re: Five Win, One Loses?

Assuming there's no third option like Superman saving the day... I'd make the switch both times for one guy to die rather than five. Less deaths that way. ...unless it's one child and five old people, then I'd let the five people bite the dust since they don't have much longer to live anyway.

I always feel that questions like this invite political incorrectness and a reaction of "You're a monster!" from other people. I just choose whichever seems like the lesser evil to me.

Not at the Dinner Table / Re: Homosexuality and Same-Sex Marriage
« on: January 25, 2012, 09:26:55 PM »
Love that the majority of people here accept it. I have the view that I accept it without question, but I might be slightly unnerved to see it in action (no thanks to the media of yesteryear making it seem unusual or a joke), and my orientation's still up in the air (I'm some level of gay, but I haven't been meeting people to actually find out. To my knowledge I'm straight). I do want to accept, though, which I've started with my beliefs. And yes, I have three gay [online] friends.

Mostly it just frustrates me that religion seems to be the only argument given against homosexuality. Sorry, but religion's not a good enough reason for me, some of the beliefs given may be outdated or be the work of a person's interpretation or opinion. It gives me the impression that the only opposers are those who are intolerant, not even briefly considering that a gay person or gay couple can be good. I don't foresee a bunch of homosexual couples causing widespread chaos or burned-down cities. There shouldn't be any disease outbreak either, but I'd think people would be smart enough by now to know how to take care of themselves. It's worse when trying to force intolerant opinions on a large group of people. I thought we were past that, to celebrate diversity... and to not make a big deal out of it so that we're all treated as equals.

Not at the Dinner Table / Re: Stephen Colbert must be stopped!
« on: January 25, 2012, 06:06:33 PM »
*stopped reading about a paragraph in*

Eh, let it happen. If people laugh or angrily vote Colbert out of the race, that might indicate a passion for political issues that's higher than previous years. I would say it doesn't hurt to have informed people, but I don't know whether the other people are indeed informed. There's surely good arguments for and against any candidate. I just hope the good arguments win out. Even though I can't speak for how effective that'll be in picking a president who will do the things we elected him/her for.

While I severely doubt Colbert will be president (or even see him on the ballot), I think it'd be hilarious if it did happen. Maybe I think he'd be more honest than the other candidates.

General Chat / Re: Color Method

Got an 8.8. Got a 6 on complementary (wasn't sure what I was doing at first), a 9 on analogous, and an 8 on quaternary. The rest I got a 10 on. And yeah, I occasionally had trouble telling which quadrant my cursor corresponded to: I just wheeled the mouse around until they became similar. I like that there's a little bit of leeway for "perfect".

That was fun.

I like that I'm a furry. ...you know, because the Redwall series was awesome.
And I'm in the same boat as TEM, except I draw stuff.

That's awesome. Especially the confused look on the lizard's face every so often.

Mario Chat / Re: PeTA vs. Furries
« on: December 03, 2011, 02:28:48 AM »
It's no secret that I think furries win... which I'll just leave at that... but seriously, PETA doing this was in really bad taste. And the first time I saw their game, I thought "well that's even more offensive than some of the M-rated games out there today". I sure hope there isn't anyone crazy enough to play the game and take a moral lesson from it. Or any kids for that matter. ...and I think they made the game tough on purpose just to taunt us with skinless tanukis.

But on the subject of a Tanuki suit making Mario fly, I still believe it should be Raccoon Mario credited with making him originally fly, not Tanuki. ...oh right, nevermind, the only raccoon-like animals that Japan has are tanukis, so... Mario had a tanuki tail all along. Which is why it's a round tanuki tail and not a raccoon tail. Wow am I out of the loop.

I can only hope PETA goes the way of Jack Thompson and just disbands and disappear.

After having watched "Arashi No Yoru Ni" (English title: "One Stormy Night"), I've been using this wallpaper.
