Mario Chat / Re: NSMB2 Coin Rush Records Thread
« on: September 18, 2012, 08:09:00 PM »
Capping the coin amount at 30,000 kind of takes away the competitive nature of coin rush. It's kind of like "Hey I got 30,000... now what?" since there's no further way to set a higher score.

I uh, kinda touched on that earlier in the thread. The very first post to be precise.

I know I must have read that at some point, I just forgot. At the very least I contributed a partial confirmation.

Well logically accounting for inflation, it's not much more than $50 was worth in 2006 (and actually less than when the gamecube launched; $50 in 2001 is worth $64.68 now), but who uses logic when it comes to complaints about video game announcements? Yeah I'm not too happy with it regardless, but I'll just deal with it.

I know I just posted this in the Wii U thread, but it probably should be here too:

I am very excited for this. Looks like it's shaping up to be the best 2D Mario in a long time.

That is very true. There are positives and negatives to both approaches, like knowing what's coming so that you know the console you're buying is a worthy investment vs. having to wait a long time for announced games.

Also here's the new NSMBU trailer. Like I said, it's looking very good:

The Deluxe package definitely sounds like the better deal for me, especially since I was already planning on getting Nintendo Land. I might pick up NSMBU sometime after launch. The game is looking better and better with each showing (they should have called it New Super Mario World what with all the similarities, plus it probably would have gotten more sales).

So I find it rather interesting that we only know of one game, Smash Bros, that Nintendo is releasing after launch window, and even that won't come for a couple years. I suppose they want to focus on the launch hype, but it's very different from what they've done in the past. Take the 3DS for instance: when it was announced at E3 2010 two of the games they announced and showed trailers for were Paper Mario and Animal Crossing, neither of which have come out yet (and the latter not until 2013).

Edit: here's the new trailer for Nintendo Land:

I think I'll stick with the one I have. It's what I've been known as for a while, and even if it's as simple as my initials combined with a word 7th grade me thought sounded cool, it's not terrifically bad.

Yeah that... I still think it's a great game (good for what it was, just not exactly as a Mario game), but I was much less... eloquent back then.

Now that I have my own laptop I should be coming here more. Keyword being 'should' because last time I said something like that I quickly stopped visiting. Anyway, I've been lurking and occasionally posting for awhile but I might be more present now.

Random thoughts and reflections: when I first started posting here I was a stupid junior higher and I said some things I regret (and chose a username which I'm unfortunately stuck with). This really is the only forum I've stuck with over the years. Anyway, it's good to be back.

I finally got my own laptop since I'm going away to college fairly soon. Incidentally, I can finally download games (my parents had a "don't download anything" rule for their computers). I made a Steam account a while ago to purchase Portal while it was free for a short time, and now I can finally play it. Portal seems like a good first game for my new laptop.

@jdaster64 and Weegee

What makes the credits sound so good is that the "bah"s are really "doo"s, which actually sounds pretty good, better than "BAH BAH" all the time at least. Why couldn't they have just used "doo"s the whole time?

Now that the game is out in Japan, spoilers for the game are now available. So what does the super awesome, mega-hyped one million coin goal unlock you? A new title screen.

[post]

While this is true, I believe we should give the game the benefit of the doubt. Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon is currently in a similar position to what Pikmin 2 was facing while in development. Pikmin is a short and atmospheric game that loses something by adding more video-gamey elements and a longer game, which Pikmin 2 did. And certainly it is a different game despite having the same basic gameplay. However, it managed to stand out in its own regard, and many consider it to be the superior game.

That being said, to my knowledge the same team did both Pikmin games, while this is being done by a different studio. However this game does have the potential to be its own game that is good in its own right.

For those of you that stuck around after the show and suffered through the horror that was the awkward Nintendo family:
