Bumping this thread since the author made a follow-up article on the GameCube's genesis and commercial history. It's a longread, but well worth it.

It especially put into perspective just how throughously Nintendo misread the market during that period. Western developers getting traction? Gut your western subsidiary and double-down on the shrinking Japanese market, duh. Multiplatform releases becoming more common? How dare these parasistes cheapen the ~Nintendo Difference~! Online gaming on the rise? Pfffft, kids will love that GBA connectivity right, right?

It's much better than the N64 controllers in my opinion. The analog stick doesn't wear out and the d-pad is comfortable. I just wish there was a easier way to transfer and translate the games in America. Also, it's not an N64 controller; It's an official Nintendo 64 in a new N64 controller for the Chinese market.
