Title: NES Game Prices
Post by: Mega 2 on January 02, 2008, 01:40:10 AM
Can anyone tell me how much a typical N.E.S. game cost when the system was introduced, and how much one cost when the Super Nintendo was introduced?  Just ballpark figures are fine.

$50. After SNES release? Got me, I'm betting some of the major titles were still $40 or $50.

I've seen them go for anything between 99p to £15 dependent on what sort of game it is :).

This topic wasn't about current prices, in case you hadn't noticed (and you didn't).

Probably the same as current-gen games go for now... why?

I think they were at least $20. If you can still find Snes games anywhere, they usually cost at least $15.

I remember watching a REALLY old rerun of some gameshow with an NES being the prize, and the announcer voice over said games for it cost as little as $20.

Then again, put inflation (not a huge increase, yet the game show was 2 decades old, that has to mean something) into account.....

There are always cheaply-made games that cost $20, plus games sometimes will drop drastically in price when they get outdated (i.e. old versions of Madden).

I wasn't buying Nintendo games until 1997 so I wouldn't know what an NES game cost in 1990 but I think it's pretty neat that $50 has been a constant rate. It makes sense too but I won't go into economic details here.

Yeah... like I said in my first post here, the standard mainstream game price was $50.

I wanted to know because I never had an original Nintendo, and buying some repackaged old games last month made me wonder about how much money I saved by not getting them during the 8-bit generation.

Thanks for the (relevant) info, guys.
