Author Topic: Just a little question...  (Read 10974 times)

« on: January 03, 2008, 09:13:41 PM »
Sorry for making a whole new topic about this but I couldn't find another topic where I could ask this.  My question is: What does it mean you look at the list of people that are viewing the sight and you see and it will sometimes say that a hidden person is viewing the sight?  Why is that person hidden?

I felt I could've worded that question better so if anyone doesn't get what I'm saying just ask.

It means that that person has gone into their profile settings and chosen to be a hidden user.

« Reply #2 on: January 03, 2008, 09:18:36 PM »
You can do that?

Everyone can.

I did it first and a million people copied me.

Why would anyone want to make themselves a hidden user?

What is someone going to do on TMK that is private enough for no one to know if they are there?

Look at someone else's profile.

Why would it be bad if someone saw them looking at someone else's profile?  (Sorry about all of these questions).

I don't know, some people are sensitive about it.

It's just a lame and cowardly option available for lame cowards. You know, the same type of people who wear all black, leaving only their eyes exposed, and throw pointy things.

I'm not a lame coward, and I most certainly am not a ninja.

I wish I was a ninja.  You can do all of those things BP said and no one can question you.  That's the life.

Being Ultima Shadow, I am a shadow, and being mysterious and hard to detect probably suits me.

That, and the fact that I'm usually the only hidden member online in my timezone gives me away anyway.

It's still easy to identify hidden people. Just look at the most recent post, and then look to see if there is a hidden person online.

Okay, thanks for the answers but now I have another question:

How come guests can sometimes reply to topics?  Don't you have to be a member to reply to topics?

Haha, what? Guests can only look at topics.

Guests were allowed to post way back when if I'm not mistaken.

Even when ASP was around, you had to register to post. Or so I recall.

If you can prove me wrong, please do.

The ancient posts submitted by "guests" are the result of deleted accounts, I believe.

If you knew how to exploit the system, you could do a lot of weird things also, like post from other forums utilizing the same system.
That was a joke.

Those were some crazy times. There were quite a few odd forums I saw just by entering random numbers into the URL.

If you knew how to exploit the system, you could also post in locked threads. Those were some fun times...

If you knew how to exploit the system, you could post as others (!), use HTML when it was banned, post in new secret forums, and edit other people's posts.

In fact, one of the steps of initiation into the SotFSK was to edit yourself into the first post.

Or like how CashCrazed was able to alter the backgrounds and put in music back on the older incarnation of the FF?

Heh.  I didn't think this would be brought up again.  Strangely, I think I used my "powers" more then than I do now that I legitimately have them.  I still find it interesting that most of the SotFSKs went on to become mods.  Four of us even met each other at E3.  Good times.  I think I have the thread (oh, it's still here) and the secret forums/threads saved somewhere.  I still feel a little bad about letting out too much info on one of the secrets.  At least it, in part, lead to LD's classic "stupid fatty" signature.

I wish I had been around back in that day. Can't we set up the old forum system again? ;)
