Title: TMK Grand Event
Post by: Forest Guy on June 24, 2004, 05:01:52 PM
I'm Meowrik, here with Vidgmchtr and we have set a new record first thing, in two TMK FOrum Members meeting each other in reality.

Today was a party, and Mike AKA Vidgmchtr came over, and now we plan on playing some games.

It is a memorable occasion in the history of the forums.

Congratulations! You two are lucky. But now for the important question I know is on everyone's minds:

Who is better at the games?

Hah, I am, but Vid's not bad.

He says we're about equal but he only won a 4-player SSBM match that included me, and a Shadow Battle game in Four Swords Adventures.

It was a great party. We played SSBM and Four Swords Adventures (Oh, wait, Meow already mentioned that, sorry).

In FSA, we got up to the Phantom Ganon Boss, Meow and I were pretty good at dodging projectiles back at the boss, but some other guy (Forgive me, I forgot his name...Chris, was it?) was acting all weird and missed almost every shot. Then Erik had his friend Erik come in to take his place and about 15 minutes later, we FINALLY got him.

...I'd love to go back, or have Erik come to my house.

Oh, I forgot....
....He SURE loves his Hawaiian shirts.

I kind of agree and disagree with MB.

Oh, and Chup, what did Fifth and David do that had to do with TMK? What was the difference between David/Fifth and now Meow/Vid?

Heh, TBB beat us all.
And maybe Dairy King and Bluto did too.

Anyway, since David is TMK staff and Fifth is Fungi Forums mod, and they met at E3 where they could theoretically get media to show on TMK, it has more to do with TMK than Vid and Meow meeting at Meow's party to play GCN games.

The universe is permeated with the odor of turpentine.

Insane Steve, I probably say "NorCal" because a lot of people say "Cali" (Cal-E) for California. Also, that is what I gotta say in BMX or some people will just totally be blank if you say "North Carolina" instead of "NorCal" or "Greenville" (NC).

"Cal" is used commonly in California, such as Cal Berkley College.  All I wonder is why someone would know a nickname for a state and not the real name.  Wait, if NorCal means North Carolina, is South Carolina called SouCal?  And wouldn't the irregular spacing in "NorCal" condradicting the order of consanants of North Carolina suggest that the state is called North Calorina?  And why would people in Texas be interested in North Carolina deep enough that there's a nickname for it anyway?  AM I MISSING OUT ON SOMETHING?!?  ARE PEOPLE DEPRIVING ME OF SOME TRUTH IN THE WORLD?!?

I can''t think of a signature.  Gimme suggestions.

Okay, this has gotten completely off topic. Everybody, listen: this topic was only made so that Meowrik could announce that Vidgmchtr visited him at his house. It doesn't matter if it isn't a "grand TMK moment," but it is something special- two members of the forums met each other in person. Now somehow the topic of Meowrik and Vidgmchtr's meeting suddenly took a dive into how to say "North Carolina" in shorter terms, and where unrelated people live. This topic was made to converse about what Meowrik originally wanted it to be- his meeting with Vidgmchtr. Okay?

Friends? Heh, these are my only friends- grown-up nerds like Gore Vidal; and even he''s kissed more boys than I ever will.

NE89, no one cares about Meowrik meeting Vidgmchtr. That's why no one's talking about it. Meowrik meeting Vidgmchtr is as important as licking your GBA. A TMK Grand Event would be all of the Fungi Forums members meeting each other.

Well, if MMM WERE to meet me, this "grand event" would be *ME* punching him in the head... And getting a restraining order.

Anyway, I do have a reason for reviving this topic. As many of you know (well, at least many of the people who go to the chatroom), I went up to Maryland this weekend. While there, Red Paratroopa and I met.

I have family that lives pretty close by to him, so we thought it would be pretty cool to meet, since I was going up there. So we planned everything out beforehand.

On Saturday, I went to a play he was in at his school, and after it was over we talked a bit, then went to the cast party. (He's a talented actor, btw. ;P )

On Sunday, I went over to his house, and we talked and played video games (of course XD) and such. The whole thing was really fun, but also really awkward, and yet extremely cool. For those of you going to LA in May, heads up that it will be similarly extremely cool, fun, and extremely awkward. I mean, it is TOTALLY different from talking online.
I'm still kind of incredulous that I actually got to meet someone from TMK in real life, but it was awesome. XD

Oh, and we're about evenly skilled when it comes to video games; it seemed like every round it would switch off who won. XD  We played MK:DD and SSBM.
Oh, and I think it's safe to say that RP's the taller one. XP

Yes, it is a very different experience, meeting someone from online in person.

I was usually very quiet at the party, except when I made a few inside jokes Meow's friends didn't get.

I also accidently called him "Meowrik" in front of his mother at one point, which confused her. We played games, we did stuff like that.

Whoa, this topic is hilarious!! Thanks for digging it up, Sapph! I'm really glad I got to read through it. But it makes me wonder: Where was Lizard during all that?

Thanks also for the report of your adventure, Sapph. Interesting to read, and good to know that you had a fun time. The awkwardness you describe isn't something I'd thought about much, but I guess it's to be expected somewhat. I've mastered my shy tendencies to some degree, though, so I reckon that in LA I can just start acting weird from the outset if necessary. (If I'm behaving embarrassingly, then those watching won't have much reason to feel awkward, right? Or if they're of the ultra-mature strand, then maybe they'd just want to leave. Hmm.)

Suffix, what?! Are you serious? I was under the dark impression that Popple is the only other member to inhabit the northwestern-most chunk of the contiguous states besides myself. Where in it he lives I've not a clue, and it has been just fine with me to remain ignorant about that.

But what's the deal with you, Suffix? If you live that close to me (I'm guessing you based your estimate from the map I posted in ChildsPlayCharity.org), then you must live either in Western Washingaton—where with the exception of this winter the rains wash us right down the drains—or in the Pacific Ocean. And I think even the ocean is more than 1.8 hours from here. So in which building-and-people cluster do you reside?

Before the E3 possibility came up, I had always thought that Chup would be the first member I'd meet, but that hasn't happend. Also, last December I made very preliminary to drive to Bozeman to see Lizard, but I didn't end up making the trip for a number of reasons. Could you, then, end up being my first online-to-in-person acquaintance?

KoopaSlaya, while it's safe to say that I don't know you, it's a bit of a massively impossible stretch to say that I think you're fat. Where on Earth did you buy that idea? It certainly didn't come from my concession stand.

CashCrazed, there is a somewhat slim possibility that I'll go to Missouri someday if I can. For in the St. Louis suburb of Florissant lives an online man whom I would very much like to meet in person. Ever heard of that place?

I wonder if any human exists who has met or has been seen in person by two distantly located members of the forums? (If you're ready to answer with Red Paratroopa's family or something, then you don't understand my wondering.)

Indeed, I inhabit western Washington. More of a southern part, though. This winter is very odd indeed. I wore shorts today, with a T-shirt, and am still doing so... Well, that makes sense. Alright, Watoad, fine. *looks about nervously* I admit that I am sometimes more cautious than necessary.
Longview is where I'm from, and I don't believe it's too far from Longview to Seattle.
Heheheh! Longview, it's like half of La Mancha. Why? It has a lot of -mills! Stupid joke, I know, but I've got Don Quixtoe on the brain. As for our neighbor, Kelso, pay them no attention. I don't like Kelso too much, but they're the ones with an Izzy's. *shrugs*

Lizard, I was wondering where you were during most of the hilarity of this thread. It just seemed perfectly suited to your great wisecracking. ;P

I love Wendy's. Good memories at that fast food place.

Luigi Simpson, if what you say about Ringsonic is true, then you may wish to give him some advice about topic posting. You seem to have a better handle on it.

Markio, as I said in Luigison's hitchhiker topic, your young age counts toward you, not against you. Worry not! :)

Actually, Suffix, MapQuest is telling me that it's about two hours and 10 minutes from Longview to Seattle. Seeing as you're south of Olympia, though, I would imagine it taking significantly longer than that. Now my family's house, which is way better than my place in Seattle, is in Gig Harbor (next to Tacoma). According to MapQuest, that comes out to an hour and 50 minutes from Longview, which I find odd since it takes much more than 20 minutes to drive from Gig Harbor to Seattle, even when there's light traffic. I dunno.

EDIT: I cited the wrong topic.

I really don't enjoy much of the main fast food restaurants anymore.

Taco Bell: I hate tacos. I tried just getting Nachos instead at one point, but their cheese grows skin if you don't eat it in time. After that, the Chicken Quesadillas were fine, until they started putting very thin slices of lettuce in them for no reason.

Wendy's: I stopped eating the Chicken Nuggets when I realized Chicken nuggets weren't a real part of the Chicken, but processed. I still ate the Chicken Sandwiches for awhile, until I found something resembling a maggot in one. Probably just a bad part of the meat, though something like that makes me not want to eat at that place anymore.

McDonalds: I hate Burgers. Their chicken isn't that great, either. I have nothing against their breakfast, though.

The fast-food restaurants I still like are Burger King, White Castle, Subway, KFC, Pizza Hut, and Checkers.

Back on topic, though, I'd love to meet many of you fine people, whether in a public spot or my basement.

I didn't like the sauce and onions until I was 7 years old and went to my cousin's house in Indiana and I got one of those burritos without the onions.  from that moment on, I liked the sauce on it.  The onions I don't like because I don't like onions in some cases, such as this one.  Out of all the vegetables they could put on a simple burrito, why did they choose onions? It doesn't really make sense, I mean you'd assume they'd put corn or meat or lettuce or something else.
Also, I've found that the Harriet the Spy sandwiches taste good.  You know, just tomato and mayonnaise.  I liked that movie when I was little, now that actress is in Ice Princess or something.

I'm back from my busy schedule. I was going to talk about my and Sapph's meeting, but apparently we are talking about tacos.

Sapph pretty much described most of what we did. We had a lot of fun/awkward silences. Um, the SSBM battles were fun. I was always Link and she was always Peach.  She can also do Peach and Yoshi impressions really well.

Koop, even if we do meet, you'll always be a short, fat kid in a Hawaiian shirt to me.

Sorry to keep talking about things that aren't really important, but does anyone ever get a feeling where you see people at certain places and wonder like Mario and if they come here to the FF?  I do sometimes.  I don't know why.  I better see a psychologist (I'm studying that right now btw).  I wonder psychologists come here...

Random thoughts: That part of the room in that picture looks almost exactly like a room in my friend's old house (the walls were white and the TV was in front of a window and there were chairs arranged like that @______@).  I have a silver GC too.  I once ate at Wendy's and my brother found a dead bug in his sandwhich (I probably would have eaten it too if he didn't choose that one because he checked and I didn't).  I once had a dream about meeting Chup and riding with him in a big black truck... which you can read about in Wacko Dreams if you dare.  I could meet anyone I wanted to right now... if LD would just teleport me already!!

Anyway, I would love to meet almost anyone from this place at any time for some good old VG playing and wonderful akwardness, but I worry that if they knew who I really was "they'd beat da stuffin outta me fur bein' so gosh durn annoyin'"!

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but not their own facts.  But I think we can all agree that Mario rules and that''s a fact!

Arise, o topic that is difficult to appease! It is my 2000th post, and I am here to celebrate something fantastic!

Remember this picture? [The picture of Watoad in between the two pillars at University of Washington]

Ta-da!

That's right, when I went to Seattle this weekend, I was greeted by none other than the famous Watoad.(https://themushroomkingdom.net/board/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.kontek.net%2Fiansuffix%2Ftmk%2Fiprime%2F01s.jpg&hash=0eaed5b0fe5c83864688f67d3f539090) (http://www.kontek.net/iansuffix/tmk/iprime/01l.jpg)

He gave me a brief tour of the University of Washington campus. What a great guy.
(https://themushroomkingdom.net/board/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.kontek.net%2Fiansuffix%2Ftmk%2Fiprime%2F06s.jpg&hash=bbf2ed2160b77b7faae22f501db855e9) (http://www.kontek.net/iansuffix/tmk/iprime/06l.jpg)

Unfortunately, we forgot all about a video. This particular picture has an interesting story to it.
(https://themushroomkingdom.net/board/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.kontek.net%2Fiansuffix%2Ftmk%2Fiprime%2F12s.jpg&hash=97f21140955fef94d65ed3d1a6f0da88) (http://www.kontek.net/iansuffix/tmk/iprime/12l.jpg)
It took like, six tries to take this picture. The volunteer who took the picture recommended that we look as if angrily arguing over what this weird metal sculpture was. We tried to look our fiercest at each other, but every time we tried, we ended up (http://www.kontek.net/iansuffix/tmk/iprime/09l.jpg) breaking into laughter (http://www.kontek.net/iansuffix/tmk/iprime/10l.jpg). I even collapsed onto the ground at one point.

Best trip to Seattle. So far... (to be continued)

Title: Re: TMK Grand Event
Post by: Sapphira on May 22, 2006, 10:04:12 PM
Suffix told me that they used real names and online names interchangably, switching back and forth (with other TMKers' names and I'm assuming their own names). Watoad kept pausing before he said Suffix's real name when introducing him to people. Apparently I was the only TMKer talked about who was consistently referred to by their real name.

And I'm stealing thunder. Sorry. (I'm just excited! Three more weeks!)

I've met people in real life that I previously only knew online before, but the message boards I knew them on at first were on the website of a friend of mine. So that's somewhat different.

There's no way I'll ever end up meeting anyone off this site, but then again nobody would really want to, probably.

I live in California, but have never seen MEGAߥTE anywhere. The odds of finding someone randomly, and even then knowing who they are are really slim. I mean, Mß could be anyone, anywhere... MAMA MIA!!  I'M-A SO JEALOUS!

That looked like so much fun! *wishes he could think of a better word than fun*  How did you guys plan all of that?  Do you live close together?  Can I come over some time too?  I'll bring chips! XD  How many people at TMK have you met now?  Glad you guys could meet each other.  I think the sculpture looks like a metal mobile home with giant wheels. (And I noticed that my name would have fit on the Scrabble board if you used a space!)

Man, I just gotta meet someone who goes to this website!  Someone who doesn't mind how boring I am, ya know. (Someone who is a bookworm like me)

Plan it? I've been planning to go to Washington since before Christmas! I live far away (NC, remember), but I wanted to visit there. My best friend lives in WA; we grew up together in Cali. Basically, we've all been planning/coordinating stuff since before I bought tickets in Feb/March. We also all had to be flexible (me especially) for changes--some things were played by ear day-to-day while I was there.

Well, it's kind of hard to meet a person who's afraid to give out any personal info about themselves. ;P

Edit: Oh yeah, I've now met 3 TMKers in person. I've talked on the phone with many more, though (E3 2005, anyone?).

Finally for the details...

Ah! It's finally here! For the record, Sapphira and Watoad were not obnoxious in comparison to me, they were simply less reserved. It took me forever to figure out just how wet I wanted to get near that fountain, but a jet turned on and that was that. Almost everything on camera that I did seemed slow...

And I had told myself earlier that day, "Don't be a stranger! Don't be so reserved!" But, of course, I don't get enough practice as it is.

Sapphira, good job on the summer vacation page.  I want a picture of me inbetween those buildings one day.  I liked seeing Suffix jumping.  Finally some emotion from that guy.  The scrabble board was pure wootness.

Lizard Dude, I think that list is correct.  I've only made two meetups.  There was the time I sneaked into Deezer house and took a picture of his toilet, but I didn't meet him.

Ah yes... the Catskills. And, thats about all I can say about them. Though, being the youngest non-banned Fungi member, I doubt I would be able to meet any of you (meeting people online in real-life + me = never.). Plus, I'm not exactly cool about revealing the name of the state and county I live in.

There's a better chance of a person following you home from a grocery store than someone somehow able to track you down using a picture alone actually wanting to.

There's that, and the people who are horribly afraid of online interactions, but have no problems with being on TV where millions of viewers could learn your full name and general location. Why is it the Internet that's so dreadful?
Title: Re: TMK Grand Event
Post by: SolidShroom on September 16, 2008, 10:56:19 PM
The internet allows feedback, which is probably why is garners a bad reputation. Most people who are harmed by someone they found on the Internet are usually lured into it by the bad guy. You usually hear about internet predators kidnapping and doing bad things to girls whom they met online and talked to for extended periods of time.

Now to explain that party story I was talking about before. See, back when I was in grade school, it was tradition that every year I had a summer/end of the schoolyear party. You know, pool, games, barbecue, volleyball, etc... All that stuff. 10 years in a row, actually, it went.

Well back in 8th grade or whatever year it was that Vidgmchtr started talking to me, he became incredibly excited at the fact we lived about 30 minutes away from one another, and kept insisting that we meet up. Being young and dumb I agreed, but didn't really want to have him over my house since I felt embarassed to tell my parents "This is (can't remember his name). I met him on the internet." Anyway, he got wind of the fact I was having one of those parties, and told me he wanted to come. Despite my protests, I eventually just gave up and said he could come.

So the day of the party, he arrived late and didn't know anyone there obviously. He came inside, plopped down in front of the television and watched my friends play Four Swords Adventures, but didn't play when asked if he wanted to. When we all got tired of being inside we went back in the pool and stuff. He stayed inside the whole while and watched television by himself. When we came back inside he wasn't there, and went home I assumed. Later on my parents asked me who he was and why he was by himself and I responded "I'm not sure."

Yep. Good times.

Yeah, he dragged his TV and consoles outside so that the trip wouldn't be a total waste of time.

We played lots of rad games including:

N++ (Race Mode = extremely good local multi)
Double Dragon Neon
Nidhogg
Contra 3
Contra Rebirth
ZombiU (extremely good local multi)
Geometry Wars 2
Scott Pilgrim vs the World
Kalimba
Nintendoland
Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix
Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix
Amplitude

I'm sure I'm missing some others.

We also watched Civil War and the new Pure Pwnage movie. Good times.
