Title: What are the gold bars for?

In Paper Mario:TTYD, you can buy gold bars in shops. 1 bar cost 150, and 3 cost 350. Anyone know what there for?

You can buy and sell gold bars for about the same amount. In effect, this lets you carry more than 999 coins at a time.
