I thought it would be cool to find out who on the FF plays music. You can post here if you're just beginning to take lessons or if you've been playing for years.
I myself have been playing guitar for about two years. I also play bass, drums, and mandolin.
-
I played the violin for 6 years, but I quit. :(
-
I've been able to play the bells/xylophone since fifth grade, though I stopped playing earlier this year. I now play keyboard. I also play cowbell, but that probably doesn't count.
I've been wanting to learn to play guitar, but I haven't replaced the broken string on my younger brother's acoustic (honestly, I don't think he even remembers that he has a guitar, considering how long I've had it put away).
-
I've been playing the French horn for over a decade.
-
I've been playing the piano for...I forget, 8 years now?...and the violin for 4 years. I'm in an Orchestra class at my school, as well as an after-school Jazz Band program.
-
I used to play the Cello, but had to give that up when we moved here (about 12 or so years ago). I started playing the clarinet in the band in 8th grade, and in 9th grade was moved into the marching band. (this taking place about 8 years ago)
After graduating high school, I didn't pick up my clarinet all that much, and started playing the piano. I found that I could play most of the music I learned on my clarinet on the piano, so I started messing with the piano more, playing mostly by ear.
As it turns out, I taught myself how to play alot of classic video game themes on the piano (some I still can't figure out on the clarinet).
-
I can play piano, kinda; I took lessons as a li'l-un, but didn't go very far with 'em. I generally mess up quite a bit while playing...
I also can't read sheet music worth beans (it takes me ages to work out a short bit, and even longer to figure out how the song is ACTUALLY supposed to sound), so I only really play video game music by ear anymore.
Though I do enjoy doing such.
-
I've been playing the piano for about 5 years (my mom makes me do it) and I've been hating every second of it because I have to practice for 30 minutes a day which sometimes doesn't let me have enough time to do other stuff like play, eat, do homework, sleep.
-
I've been playing guitar since grade 6.
-
30 minutes is bad? o_o
-
30 minutes is bad? o_o
Seriously. My bro is going to try out for Denver Blue Knights and he only practices an hour a day.
I have been playing trumpet for over 5 years. I love it. I am just now learning how to play tenor drums.
I also play bass, drums,
I also play bass drums.
-
I've played Trumpet for almost five years, and guitar for two years.
-
I've been playing [electric] guitar now for three-and-a-half years, and am self-taught on bass guitar (though the guitar lessons work for both guitar and bass :P). I can also sing, and used to be one of the best in my class in 3rd grade. Of course, many things have changed since then. Nowadays, $5 is pocket change!
-
I play the Comb-With-Paper-Over-It and Blade-Of-Grass. Been playin' for about six years now. I dabble in blowing across jug openings but I'm pretty n00b at it.
-
I play a mean "I've Been Working on the Railroad" on a piano.
-
Piano, synthesizer, saxophone, and guitar. I'm in a musical epic called "I'm On Neptune". Perhaps I'll post a link sometime.
-
I do play guitar, but I'm not very good. I seriously wish I hadn't bought an electric guitar.
-
P.S. Presidente you pretty much gave away your age right there.
It already says it on my profile.
-
Oh. Well it doesn't really matter anyway so I'll just walk away.
*runs away*
-
I would also like to add that you can post recordings of yourself playing, etc.
-
I can play the SMB theme on the piano, but that's about it.
-
Mm, well these are all fairly old, and full of errors and the like (I tend to play a lot worse when I'm aware of being recorded)... but here y'go:
SMW credits (http://www.geocities.com/f2fth/5smw-end.mid) (all full of errors)
SMS Bianca Hills (http://www.geocities.com/f4fth/sms-bianca.mid)... or is it "Bianco"?
...And Erana's Peace (http://www.geocities.com/f1fth/erana.mid)
...oh, and two (http://www.geocities.com/f4fth/gb2.mid) other songs (http://www.geocities.com/f4fth/gb1.mid), from Wario Land 3, just 'cause they're already uploaded and everything.
...and yes, it's MIDI format. It happens to be a very efficient format for this sort of thing, so just bear with it: there's only one instrument playing.
-

-
Here (http://chupnet.com/audio/music/beware.ogg) is a recording of me playing guitar. Here (http://customercopy.googlepages.com/oozak.wav) is me playing kazoo, which I is one of the instruments I play avidly that I forgot to mention when I started this thread.
-
I can play acoustic guitar in the sense that I can kind of hold it the right way and make noises with it (I've even memorized the first few notes of both "Happy Birthday" and the Mario theme).
-
I play alto sax for the Jazz band and Bari sax for the wind ensemble.
I used to play piano as a kid, but I quit a long time ago.
-
I'm on a 7th level of Piano.
-
Lately I've been just fooling around on the piano, and I end up playing some pretty cool sounding stuff.
-
I've been playing the drums since about 8th grade.
-
I'm on a 7th level of Piano.
Did they release Piano Hero and not tell anybody?
--
I have had varying levels of experience with piano, recorder, harmonica, flute, clarinet, and guitar. I'm trying to get back into piano and guitar (and possibly bass), but haven't time recently. I haven't really played since elementary (middle) school, though I've done a bit with MIDI since then.
-
I played the piano and violin in high school, but college squeezed the musicianship out of me. Too expensive, too much time necessary.
You can see me do an impression of a "The Robot" while conducting a somewhat sad high school orchestra on Youtube, though.
-
Expensive? o_o I guess if you don't already own an instrument or something...
-
A rental French horn was $500 for me. -_-
Purchasing one would be in the quadruple digits, so yeah, very expensive if you don't own your own instrument.
-
Not only that, but by increasing the amount of time before I graduate (though adding classes and offsetting others), I pay more tuition.
I'm sure my dad would have let me use his violin, which I used in high school.
-
I know people who paid $3000 (or more) for their violins, but once you have one, you have one...
As for lessons/classes?, that wasn't really what I was thinking as far as "expense". I mean you don't have to be formally studying an instrument to play it.
Last night I had a dream I was playing a trombone for some reason. It was weird.
-
I'm working on the Maple Leaf Rag, Almost halfway through the original version.
-
but college squeezed the musicianship out of me
Me too! But Guitar Hero and Rock Band brought it back (the feeling).
-
Me too! But Guitar Hero and Rock Band brought it back (the feeling).
-
That commercial with the fox always makes me lol.
-
I've done piano on and off with lessons/no lessons for a long time. Of course, lessons were a burden, so I quit. Granted, I can plunk out a tune, but not with much finesse (that's reserved for my brother) Currently, I don't play any instrument habitually, but I did do trombone in 5th grade (I wanted drums because it seemed easier, but my uncle already owned a trombone and I think my parents just wanted to save a buck. Behold, weeks of embarassment having virtually no clue how to play an instrument in a class/school full of people who already hated me anyway).
-

It's only a matter of time before they do release a Piano Hero game.
-
Well, Keyboardmania has been around forever. Kind of like Guitar Freaks was around forever before Guitar Hero. It's just that people actually, ya know, buy the Harmonix versions (also they are 8000x better).
-
Weird.
-
I can play the Triangle...
-
I play a lot of musical instruments. Clarinet, Sax, Guitar (and of the Bass vareity as well), Piano, and I've just recently started teaching myself the Djembe.
I also write music for fun. I take informal lessons with a composition instructor who is more my friend than teacher. Although I have had not formal music schooling, other than band and the easy theory classes they offered, I think I'm a halfway decent composer.
http://koopaslaya.googlepages.com/Track01.MP3 (http://koopaslaya.googlepages.com/Track01.MP3)
There is a very rough song that I have yet to finish. It moves from one movement to the other far to quickly, and the movements do not quite build up as well as they could. The best (most complete) part is at 2:38. I have had not time to work on it since school started.
http://koopaslaya.googlepages.com/ConcerningGrapefruit.mid (http://koopaslaya.googlepages.com/ConcerningGrapefruit.mid)
This is my most recent musical composition, which I have not even recorded into MP3 format yet. This is also rough. It is about eating a Grapefruit and the difficulties and pleasures therein. The first movement is one of pain and struggle as out main character prepares his grapefruit, cuts his finger, and squirts citric acid in his face. In the second movement, the main character consumes the flesh of the grapefruit in joy and peace. Soon, however, he realizes that there is no more Grapefruit to enjoy. This song is filled with plenty of filler, as I need to work on the main Oboe line a lot.
I hope you all enjoy these two examples of musical fun.
-
That MP3 was pretty darn cool, KS.
I haven't composed anything since early high school, but I hope to have some time to experiment soon.
-
I play the guitar (bass, electric and acoustic), the saxaphone, the keyboard and the Irish whistle. Have been doing for years. I'm currently in a band of five people (they are all friends whome I used to go to school with years ago) - we play in the local pub about twice a year. When we do play, we do a lot of video game themes, but vary the way we play them a lot. We also like to do covers, as none of us can write very good songs :D
We tried to write one once, and it failed miserably, so we played the Tetris theme straight after.
-
Though it is unfinished, I post this (http://tem.kontek.net/Music/TEM%20-%20Pounder%20the%20Jackalope%20TEST.mp3) in great shame and envy after Koopaslaya's awesome track.
-
Koopaslaya's track always gets me with its incredible Rick Wakeman/Yoko Shimomura style fusion around the 2:38 mark.
-
I like your song, TEM. It's fun and happy. It's sort of zany with that NES-feel to it. How / what did you use to write it?
-
Hey Koopaslaya, I really liked your song!
I haven't had a chance to hear TEM's yet. I'll comment on it after I do.
-
Koop, Track1 is excellent. I love it.
-
http://solidshroom.googlepages.com/music
I gotta warn, some of these are very poor, joke recordings.
-
Well, I wanted to play piano, then the guitar, then the drums, but then I stopped.
-
I am a musician.
I play the Guitar Hero, the Jam Sessions, and the Rock Band.
Been playin' for about two years now.
-
-_-
-
A crappy cell phone pic of the two instruments I currently play:
(https://themushroomkingdom.net/board/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fphotobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv355%2FVidgmchtr%2Fhornandmello.jpg&hash=d1bff4fbc7143916918821ff5a9c0e31)
The one on the right is my rental French horn I've been using for awhile.
The one on the left is a two-valved bugle mellophone, keyed in G. I play this for a local fire station's marching band.
-
That's cool, Vid.
You can find pictures of my instruments here. (http://customercopy.googlepages.com/pictures3)
-
I like the mellophone. A lot.
-
My brother is now officially a Blue Knight.
-
This (http://tem.kontek.net/Music,%20all%20content%20copyright%20Evan%20Harrington/TEM%20-%20Growlo.mp3) track received critical acclaim in the chatroom so I share it with the forum.
-
I just realized I get a really strong Christmas vibe from French horns.
-
I just realized I get a really strong Christmas vibe from French horns.
Me and three other hornists formed a short-lived horn-quartet last year and played a nice arrangement of Noël. If I can ever find the recording of it, I'd put it up.
-
TEM: Fun song. Koopaslaya seal of approval.
-
I've played piano since 1991. I also sing.
-
I amazed myself by making this (http://solidshroom.googlepages.com/heavensdoor.mp3).
-
Yargh, I be the finest air guitarist in all the 7 seas!
-
That PL be right, no need to walk the the plank today me boy.
-
Here are two acoustic guitar recordings.
Shoelaces (http://customercopy.googlepages.com/guitarjam2.ogg")
One Inch Ruler (http://customercopy.googlepages.com/oneinchruler.ogg)
Enjoy!
-
I occasionally play keyboard and drums for fun, not in seriousness. I am also an aspiring vocalist. Particularly screaming vocals. Me and my friends have been meaning to bring up a band for a while.
-
More music (http://tem.kontek.net/Music,%20all%20content%20copyright%20Evan%20Harrington/TEM%20-%20I%20Make%20My%20Own%20Yogurt%20(in%20the%20Jar%20in%20the%20Garage).mp3)!
-
At this time, my band already has two tracks recorded. Naturally they're not the best, as I was the only one with proper equipment. The guitar was acoustic, when it was songs that could def use electric. The bass was also ampless, and we didn't even have our drummer, so there was no percussion. They're from our first practice, too.

I've got sound files of various pieces I did in high school and college, and don't have anywhere to put it up.
-
Why does the singer sound like a dragon with a sore throat? I only like certain screaming vocals, but they must be interspersed with clean vocals. Also, I think it might be helpful if you learn a little about some chord progressions in minor keys. Screaming over the Ionian mode is almost always completely unbearable.
By the same token, keep making music because I think that it's far more important than any sports.

YOU BE THE JUDGE
-
I have been playing Trumpet for 7 years since 5th grade, but my range and tone quality went (insert farting noise here) because of braces which I will finally get them off this summer after almost two years.

We're sort of in the direction of a band with screaming.

Download Winamp.
-
MSM, you must've learned by now that .ogg is worshipped by the elitists of this forum (e.g. Chupperson).

So wait, you're saying that you don't care that you're wrong and unwilling to adapt to new information?
-
Well Whatever. I downloaded Winamp, listened to the track, and it kinda sounded really long, and repetitive. That's just me.
And just to continue the trend,
Please read this page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Respect) to get smarter.
-
I played guitar on the track Chupperson linked to above.
-
That is a pretty fun little song there.
-
Sorry for bumping my own thread, but I just wanted to post some new stuff I recorded.
Fringe (http://customercopy.googlepages.com/Fringe.ogg")
Jazzy B Minor (http://customercopy.googlepages.com/jazzyBminor.ogg)
Hope you like them.

This (http://tem.kontek.net/Music,%20all%20content%20copyright%20Evan%20Harrington/TEM%20-%20My%20Electrostatic%20Hum%20Pet.mp3) and that (http://tem.kontek.net/Music,%20all%20content%20copyright%20Evan%20Harrington/TEM%20-%20Clowning%20Around.mp3) are newish tracks I made.
-
Those are great, TEM, I really like both of them.
-
I plaied the flote in the past...But I don't like it's sound. Then I play sometimes an ocarina...just to disturb my sisters! =D
Two years ago I have also created 2 dance tracks! Tunza tunza tunza....
Evene if they are bad, I like to listen to them because they are all MINE!
*when I was little then a friend of my father made me use a phisarmonic just for fun...ahahahah! I plaied it that time all pushing buttons randomly and I was quasi near to destroy that instrument by enlarging it! DX
-
I play the drums.
-
I've recently been toying with Sony ACID XPress, and have created some pretty cool songs with it. I'll upload them soon, maybe.
-
Last night, I started a song when I was enthusiastic about writing a song. Unfortunately, I was really tired. This is what I came up with.
Enthusiastically Tired (http://koopaslaya.googlepages.com/EnthusiasticallyTired.mid)
-
French Horn, Piano, Trumpet.
Made the All-state, as well as National Honor bands back in high school.
-
<BirdPerson> I'm gonna take a walk (around the house.)
I made theme music (http://tem.kontek.net/Music,%20all%20content%20copyright%20Evan%20Harrington/TEM%20-%20Bird%20Person%20March.mp3) for when BirdPerson does this in the future.
-
That's really great TEM. Since I'm posting, I might as well link to some stuff I recorded since the last time I posted here.

I've written three songs in my life, but I can't play them on any non-kazoo instrument, so I just have to hum them. Which is all right, because the lyrics are really lame. (Although I actually don't remember all the words to any of them)
-
Iv played Classic Guitar for the past 3 year and now im going to play the Accoustic. Iv tryed making some songs but they sound lame. Iv also played the saxophone but only because they forced me (my school) into playing in the band.
-
I used to play the clarinet, but I wasn't very good or anything. I play the piano by ear, so that probably doesn't count either. However, I was/am in a barbershop quartet called "Fourtissimo" (get it?) and I sing lead. There are videos on youtube! Ooh, ahh... yeah, so I can sing, but I'm not extraordinarily talented or anything.
-
I'm guessing you're Mark?
-
Yes. If you're referring to the videos, I'd only recommend the "When I'm Sixty-Four" song. The rest are blgheeragharghghgh....*throw-up*
-
I've watched several videos, and you guys are positively awesome.
-
What a nice thing to say!
Oh, I suppose I also play the ukulele. My older brothers all played the guitar, and I wanted to be "different".
-
I gotta get me a an ukulele. I've been wanting to add it to my instrumental arsenal for a while now.
-
This is what my synthesizer looks like:
(https://themushroomkingdom.net/board/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.dolphinmusic.co.uk%2Fshop_image%2Fproduct%2F27a2021bd108c0f75b4d9aa2495383fa.jpg&hash=20a5170f7ec0de3968da6e65bd7848e9)
-
That looks like it'd be fun to circuit bend.
-
Nobody is taking that baby apart, thank you.
-
I play Ukulele, by the way. And that synth is awesome looking.
-
BUMPZ (http://tem.kontek.net/Internet%20Crap/Music,%20all%20content%20copyright%20Evan%20Harrington/TEM%20-%20Negative%20One.mp3)
-
Approved.
-
TEM, that track is awesome.
-
Can you play that at my funeral?
-
I can press the play button.
-
I play acoustic guitar, it's been a tough process. I thought I'd be able to pick it up and learn it real quickly, but it took much longer than expected...I'm still not great at it, but I'm working at it
-
So yeah the last time I posted here was at least two years ago so I'll update..
I mainly play electric, acoustic and bass guitar, but I can play pretty much any instrument, since I mainly play improvisational jam kind of thing. I might post some songs that I recorded later.
-
Tuba: 5th grade - first two weeks of 9th grade
Piano: Since 10th grade. I have a Yamaha PSS-160 with like 12 instruments and beats, a crappy memory (remembers up to 50-ish notes and can only keep your tempo correct and remember every note you play if you play it very slow and hold the notes), and instruments that sound 0% like their real counterpart. I did receive a PSS-480 with 100 instruments, 100 beats, 10 memory slots for whatever you wanted, and a synthesizer..... the voices sounded closer to the respective instrument.... after about 3 months of having it, it messed up: It drops all F and B notes. If it used to do that, you had to hold the next key up from it (chromatically, so F#, or B#) and keep it held to play the F and Bs. Now, said notes are completely broken, so I've reverted back to the crap PSS-160, which bothers me. (PSS-160 = mine was built in 1986)
I've learned everything I know (50+ songs) by ear because piano sheet music is God-awful. 6 note chords, signs i've never seen (hey I played the friggin' tuba... I had quarter notes, whole notes, half notes, and some 8th/16th/32nd notes sprinkled in there), and remembering which key everything is in and what it affects is too annoying for me.
Wish I had lessons and an actual keyboard.
-
I wish I could find a fingering chart for my new 11 hole ocarina.
-
I have a fingering chart for an 11 hole ocarina.
IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN *NUDGE NUDGE*
-
o_o
-
I lost.
Oops, wrong topic.
-
Well, in a way, you're still right.
-
I'm still struggling with the 11 hole part of it.
-
I'd rather not understand the joke.
-
I think everyone is looking into that joke a little too hard.
Also, did I mention my singing skills have improved somewhat and now I sing in a band?
-
I sing too!
And I played guitar naked today...it was AWESOME!
-
I play the piano, but I'm not a professional ...yet.
-
I play the piano, but I'm not a professional ...yet.
So you can't play it naked yet?
-
I've never played an instrument in the nude for an extended period of time.
-
There's a couple different jokes in there about pipe organs, I'm sure.
-
Whatever you do, never play the clash cymbals naked.
-
Haha.
Ambulance Y, how much was your synthesizer?
-
I've been playing piano/keyboard for over ten years now, and am trying to compose music for several instruments.
-
Here is another mp3!

I've played piano for around 10 years and clarinet/bass clarinet for 5. Still working on learning to play guitar :P

Some tracks
Anthem for the Desponder (http://tem.kontek.net/Internet%20Crap/Music,%20all%20content%20copyright%20Evan%20Harrington/TEM%20-%20Anthem%20for%20the%20Desponder.mp3)
Loop2 (http://tem.kontek.net/Internet%20Crap/Music,%20all%20content%20copyright%20Evan%20Harrington/TEM%20-%20Loop2.mp3)
-
Most of the songs listed are basic (well, I play them in basic form unless I save other parts of the song to my keyboard or know some chords for the song) since I haven't had any formal training:
Donkey Kong- All songs and SFX
SMB- All songs, and I know the power-up sound, power-down/pipe sound, hitting a ? block sound, coin, time-running-out thing, etc.
SMB2- Just a couple songs
SMB3- All songs, basically, save for just a few. Also, I figured out the stage-flipping-over sound after you complete the level and return to the map screen (for the SMAS version), and the sound of the timer being counted for points.
SML- Overworld, underworld.
SMW- All songs, save for just a couple. Also figured out the death theme, and the SFX when you release a reserved item.
SMK- Koopa Beach, Raceways, few more. Also figured out the notes for the "item roulette." (I like DS' the most since it changes depending on course)
MK64- Luigi Raceway, few others.
MK:DD- Luigi Raceway, couple others.
MKWii- Trying to learn some of the songs, really haven't worried about it. Wanna learn Maple Treeway.
Mario Golf- Toad Highlands, Shy Guy Desert.
MG:TT- Peach's Castle. (I have two other parts saved to my keyboard). Also, menu screen (love that song).
Mario Tennis/MPT: Some songs.
Sunshine: Delfino Plaza, some others.
Galaxy: Observatory, Good Egg, Battlerock, Space Junk, the weird song that plays in the cube thing (where you chase the notes the very first time at Good Egg), and just recently learned Beach Bowl, and Rainbow Mario. (The only thing I need help with on that song is the harp played in the background that is played very fast. No one ever offers any advice or knows what I'm talking about, so please... anything?)
The Sims: One of the "buy crap" songs.
Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time: A few (I don't boast that I can play the main theme because that is like the ultimate cliche now). Also, learned the little bit that's played with an ocarina when morning comes.
Wind Waker: Great Sea, Cursed Great Sea, the forest place, Outset Island, a few others.
Rally X: Intro song, main song, bonus song (I combine the main and bonus for a medley of sorts so the bonus portion of the song really sounds like a solo of the main song) Also, found out the sound effect for when you get a Special Flag and it's counting your fuel.
Many, many more. Oh yeah, I learned all the city songs (save for California) on the SNES version of Mario is Missing (aka, the best arrangements of Super Mario World, ever). Also a few from Mario's Time Machine.
If you read that above, you'll see that I have a knack for trying to figure out sound effects from games like power up, power down, reserved item release, etc. Playing those sound effects in conjunction with song just kinda helps it come to life a bit more and reminds people of the most recognizable sound effects in Mario games (for non-Mario-ish people).
My power up sound is made with "Gameboy" sounds on my keyboard (sounds exactly like it, voice #387 on my DGX-200) and speeding it up makes it sound like the Power-Up SFX used for the mini-game Mushroom Titan in MP3.
-
Here's another musician in the house. I play synth/piano, trombone, and I sing. I'm thinking of getting a trumpet to play around with sometime as well.
When I was in high school I used to warm up with Mario songs on the trombone every day (which I memorized and never used sheet music for). People would request Mario songs from me but the overworld theme was everyone's favorite. When I was a junior I had a friend who played saxophone who wanted to play Mario as well. I spent a whole evening transcribing it with him. Within a few weeks he had taught it to about five other sax players and they would all play it together. I know they passed it on to some of the younger guys after I graduated but I'm not sure if those guys passed it on to the folks who would be there now.
-
@Trainman - Rally-X? Sweet. I need to perfect the Dig Dug and DDII themes, as they're similar and so simple.

That is AMAZING!!! I'd love to learn how to do something like that!!!

I only really play the keyboard. I took a year of trumpet lessons and this year I will take some trombone lessons.
Also the hand ocarina and hand fartrumpet if that counts.

I lost twice.

Yeah, man, Rally X. I came up with a little intro for it, also. It's pretty legit. I should definitely record that since I have it sitting here in my piano's memory.

Nice track. Funkarific.
I've taken piano for about ten years which helped me pick up the guitar and learn it.
The first song I'd learned on it was Drifting by Andy McKee
