Video Game Chat / The X-Men Are Back

Oh my stars and garters, Konami is bringing the legendary six-player X-Men arcade game to XBLA/PSN. The sound of Colossus using his mutant power will haunt my brain once more. (Actually it never left.)

This game also had one of the most bangin' soundtracks of all time (of all time!).

Go and save the city!

The combination of Halo: Reach's release and discussion of which games Turtlekid1 is allowed to play has had me pondering something that I seriously don't understand:

How is Halo rated-M while Uncharted is rated-T?

Most of Halo's gameplay consists of suits of armor shooting each other with crazy alien weapons like exploding pink needles. In the campaign you do shoot aliens. Sometimes when you kill an alien there will be a small amount of blue-blood on the ground and sometimes when you kill a suit of armor there will be a small amount of red-blood on the ground. There is absolutely zero sexual content and miniscule swearing (I think someone might say "[darn]" once or twice per title). This is rated-M.

In Uncharted, you blow away thousands of normally-dressed human males with normal pistols and shotguns. However, no blood comes out IIRC. There are more sexual themes than in Halo and more swearing. This is rated-T.

What the heck is going on? Is it seriously just the minimal blood? I propose that Uncharted is actually far more damaging to the soul than Halo, yet the ratings are flipped.

As you may know, Valve cancelled their E3 Portal 2 event to replace it with a "surprise". What will it be?

I hope beyond hope that it will be the announcement of L4D3, to be released this holiday season, just to see the L4D2 rage eclipsed thousandfold.

Gabe Newell has stated it is not Ep. 3.

My true guesses: L4D DLC or reveal of a new "Meet the..." vid.

Possibility: new IP?

I'm going to host a game of Neptune's Pride and I invite you to join the game (12 players max). If you want in on this strategy battle royale, post your interest in this thread within the next couple of days. Then I'll host and send out the passwords. It's free for you to join my game. Make sure to sign-up on the site and create an alias ahead of time.

The object of a game of Neptune's Pride is to capture half of all Stars in the Galaxy.

The game is real-time but played over several weeks. You can log in at any time of the day to check the progress of your fleets, view the results of battles, and issue new orders.

Each Star you control will automatically build new ships, raise money for upgrades, and research new technologies.

Your job is to negotiate with the other players, dispatch your fleets to capture new stars, and choose where and how to upgrade your existing stars and technology.

Neptune's Pride is not like any other 4x strategy game because its streamlined mechanics allow players to focus on high level strategic decisions and diplomacy.

It's fifteen dollars on-line. It's beautiful. It's fun. It's touching. It's got twenty collectible trinkets. It has excellent music start to finish. It has no waggle. It has a button dedicated to reversing your personal gravity. It could be the platformer you've all been whining for, and yet

none of you have it.



The second-best game of 2010. Second to Bayonetta.
