Theres something funny with toad in mario kart 64. He has legs! Their hard to see but this is how you get to see them: start a grand prix and play with toad. Make sure you come in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place in the overall grand prix. When toad is on the podium and the have the camera facing the front of the winners, look closly at toads car and you will see these long skinny legs from his body that stretch down to the pedals. It's just kind of funny cause whenever else you see him he just has brown shoes on and no legs, he would look creepy with legs!
-
But not as creepy if he wore pants, too.

Ha Ha! It's Disgusting!!!!
-
Mushrooms with legs? Now I have seen everything!
-
Yup... not much to say...

-
Seriously, why is this a big deal?
-
Because its funny to see a mushrrom have long skinny legs.
-
It's a big deal for the same reason I freaked out when noticing that Luigi wore striped socks in some Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga artwork.
-
And don't forget. He had those socks in M & L: partners in time. Just check the front cover (everyone forgets about that game......).
-
I noticed that a long time ago, and still think it's a little weird.. The art for some of the games shows him with legs, and yet sometimes in-game, he has no legs. Mario Tennis 64 is a good example of this: the art had him in his tennis gear with short legs, yet in the game, he was just a mushroom shaped person with feet.
It baffles me when they do that.. was Toad meant to have legs, or not?
Personally, I kind of like him without legs, because it makes for some funny moments, such as in Double Dash.. if you have Toad as the weapons handler, and you steer left and right to the point where Toad's body waves back and forth, you'll see that his feet stay somewhat attached to the kart, and where his legs would be holding on to his feet, you'll see nothing!
-

But...but I like Luigi's socks...
Anyway, I also agree that Toad looks better without legs. Short, legless things are cute. Just look at Kirby.
-
It's true that toad is meant to have no legs. It's probably only a mistake one of the artists made in the picture or they thought when they made it that he had legs.
-
Toad had legs in most games up until the N64 era.

What's wrong with his legs?!

I think that this is not a mistake, but only a change of style -liek Mario and Luigi colour of clothes...and also the change of their face (now they look all cuter ^.^).
Mario characters change styles with the change of times! XD
-
Just as long as none of them start wearing "$" amulets.
-
I always thought his legs didn't exist.
-
I always thought they were incredibly short and obscured by his baggy pants and large shoes.
-
This topic reminds me of a question I've had for a while:
Why does Toad wear a diaper?
-
Why does Toad wear a diaper?
That thought has been in my subconscious and hasn't been invoked until now.
I thought I was the only one to think that from SMB2, Toad looked like he was wearing a diaper.
-
No, he looked like he was wearing Arabian baggy pants
-
I'm with Mß on SMB2, and as for the rest, I'm sure they're just white pants... that were made to fit Toads.
-
I'm against MB!Toad actually wears skin tight pants over very obese legs and abdomen!
-
No, no, no. It is not a diaper. Since he has no legs for him it is regular pants. Since his body is roundish down towards his feet they had to make something that fit his body shape which happened to look like a diaper, the only mistake they made was makeing the pants white. :)
Oh! And now I finally know for sure that Super Catarina! is English!
-
Oh! And now I finally know for sure that Super Catarina! is English!
??? Me English? :o
-
Yes and this is how I know. In your post on the top of page two you said "the colour of their faces". Now only someone that was from Whales, Scotland, Ireland or England would spell "color" (the american way) "colour". You see they add a 'u' in there. And that is how I know. Pretty ingenious don't you think? :)
-
Uhh, many international students studying English learn the British form. Pretty ingenious? Try ignorant.
-

Yes, I study British English! ;p
In fact American sounds a little different to me (as way of speaking) and so I can't understand when an American person talks most of the times...^_^'
-
All you need to know is that American English is spelled without unnecessary vowels like "u" in color/colour or "e" at the end of some words. We also pronounce things with an emphasis on different parts of some words. Also gotta remember that there are many dialects within America, sorta like Britain and England. Us New Yorkers tend to talk fast and slur our R's, in addition to using slang terminology.
-
Yeah southern new yokers like in the city or long island say words like "spatula" as "spatuler". Or "cockroach" as "cockaroach" Or "tumor" as "tuma". It seems that their "er's" become "a's" and vis versa and is the main glitch in their speech. But we love 'em anyways! :)
And no need to get roused Megabyte. I wasn't trying to insult the way British people spell their words. :)

Oh yes, I knew about dialects!
They are also here: in my region we are "famous" for the way to use vocals sound in the speech: we pronounce them very "opened" and talk fast (well...in less words, when you hear a venetian speaking, that is my accent more and less XD).
While in the south of Italy they say very strong consonants.
Well, I have noticed that the way of speeking of Mario is similar to our pronounciation, while Luigi has a more southern Italian accent (especially in Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga and Partners in Time: they really seems to talk Italian!---Even if they say things without sense...XD). Maybe this is cause for their different tone of their voice... ;p
By the wayyy...I have always thougt Toad had legs, even if very short (Ihave always used to drawToad with little legs^_^'). But with his new design, I think he doesn't have legs really.
-
I thought I was the only one to think that from SMB2, Toad looked like he was wearing a diaper.
I thought Toad was also wearing a diaper in that back then, so it always looked weird to me whenever he climbed something.
-
Well I guess it all depends on opinion. My opinion is that he doesn't have legs, while someones elses is he does. Doesn't really matter, as long as everyones happy. :)
-
And no need to get roused Megabyte. I wasn't trying to insult the way British people spell their words. :)
No, you still don't understand. You're ignorant because people who learn English most places besides America learn the British form, and thus that is no indication that Caterina is English (which she isn't).
Toad's legs look pretty well defined to me:

-
Leave us British alone! I'm going off to play Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles...
-
CW if you look at those pics of toad you just posted its clear that only the one to the far left has any legs. What do you mean his legs are "well defined" in the other ones? Their no even there!

Ew! I don't like that cartoon! It kinda grosses me out because toad is older than peach!
-
Kid, wait'll you've lived and surfed the web for as long as the rest of us have. Ya ain't seen nothin' yet. ;D
-
Well, I've been surfing the web for.......about 5 years now. I don't think its as long as you guys either.
-
True, many dialects here. I think the farther north/east you go, the faster they speak!
Here in Texas, we're pretty chill about the way we speak. We're not in a rush all the time so we just.... talk! Ya know?
The only thing southern you'll catch us say is "y'all," and a lack of the letter "g" on "-ing" endings on some words..... and that's about it. We aren't UH GIT GIT GIT WHUT ER U DOIN?!?!?! GIT HI-TECNICAAAAAAL.
Oh, speaking of Mario Kart 64, I have a question I've always wondered. Do the sprites for the characters change when you get hit by an item? When hit with anything that sends you in the air or toppling, I've noticed with Luigi (that's the only character I use) that when I fly up in the air it looks as if when he's spinning around he's got his hands in the air, possibly on his head. True, or am I trippin?
-
We also pronounce things with an emphasis on different parts of some words.
Yeah, that was one of the things that threw me off when I started watching British TV shows. "Strawberry" doesn't sound like "straw berry"; it comes out sounding more like "stroobbry". Huh?
-
Central/southern California. Along with classic Californian overuse of "dude" and "like," I engage in talking too fast and slurring words/pausing as I try to catch up with my speech, and ending "ing" words with "in'" instead. Not all the time though. I think. You don't realize you have a dialect until you start talkin' about it.
-
Do the sprites for the characters change when you get hit by an item?
An answer to your question trainman, no, I do not believe that the sprites change. I (like you) use only Toad to play that game, although I have used some others here and there. But I think that they just take the normal sprites and animate by lifting up the car and spinning it around. Oh yeah and to let you know, up here in New England (excluding massechusets) we talk similar to you guys down south.
-
Maybe I'm thinking of some of the north part of the mid-west.
-
up here in New England (excluding massechusets) we talk similar to you guys down south.
Uhh, no.
-
Megabyte I happen to live in New England. And no we don't have a southern accent but we talk slow and our words end with 'in instead of ing esspecially in Vermont. Vermont is the state in New England that has the most relaxed tone than the others. New England is more relaxed in the way we talk and have a more primitive tone than other northern states.
Oh and I should tell you that only using 1 to 2 words in a post on this site is against the rules. Even though your an administrator and I'm not I have seen this discouraged more than once by other administrators.
-
Are you serious? Next time you pull something like that, you're banned.
-
That seems a little harsh to me.
-
Oh and I should advise you to not to use only 1 to 2 words in a post on this site.
I scoff at this reply. Almost everyone does this once in a while.
-
Not me.
-
MEGAߥTE is about to ߥTE you.
-
Instead of advising an administrator, I'd just ask about the two-word thing. Maybe it's only appropriate at certain times or something.
But I agree about Toad. His legs are longer than if he was from New England. And yes, his Southern accent changed between Kart games.
-
Next time you pull something like that, you're banned
Easy mate. I wasn't trying to tell you what to do, I was just informing you that it's against the rules to use 1 to 2 words per post. You must have taken it the wrong way.
-
Chill.
-
Ha Ha, very funny, I see what your doing bird. It's not like I'm gonna report you to Deezer for something like this. But if you wanna be a better member of these forums then you should listen to what the CREATORS say how you should behave. Thats what I'm trying to do.
-
Wow hahahaha: MJ banned edition.
-
So, I was just playing DDR: Mario Mix, and before World 3-1, Toad says, "My legs are too stubby to dance!"
-
You actually banned him???? That's ridiculous! I thought you were just joking! This deeply shakes my respect for you, Megabyte.
-
Not that he really cares.
-
Wait, Toad said that in MarioDDR? Did he actually say the words like in Sunshine cutscenes, or did it spell out while some generic Toad noises sounded? Like in Banjo-Kazooie...
-
You actually banned him???? That's ridiculous! I thought you were just joking! This deeply shakes my respect for you, Megabyte.
Thats the thing, Megabyte doesn't joke when it comes to banning. Though, I think its kinda harsh to ban MJ just for mistaking the rules. I think he deserves a second chance.
On the note of DRR:MM, people actually bought that?
-
On the note of DRR:MM, people actually bought that?
I want it! My wife plays her DDR games all the time (to stay in shape), and I'm tired of hearing the same songs over and over again. I thought DDRMM would be a nice change, but can't seem to find it anywhere (not even online)..
-
You actually banned him???? That's ridiculous! I thought you were just joking! This deeply shakes my respect for you, Megabyte.
*gasp*
You questioned an admin! Now you've done it.
PS: It's MEGAߥTE
-
Well, Nintendo characters sometimes change their "outfits", hence Mario and Luigi's striped socks. It's just new clothes. As for Toad, legs are interchangeable fashion items among the mushroom people, and Toad merely doesn't want to be made fun of for not keeping up with the times. Short legs are so last autumn.
[EDIT: Wow! A 5th page full of ban-alicious surprises!]
-
Well, fantasy is fantasy, but it's always been beyond me how there's so many Nintendo characters with no legs. How do they run and move their feet?
As for Toad, I don't study the bottom half of his body a whole lot, but based on my memory and the above pictures, it seems to me that he used to wear something akin to parachute pants, but he now swaps back-and-forth between those and a pair of Pampers. He's only got legs when he needs 'em--fungi grow weird like that.
