I'm taking a gamble here posting a video I've never watched (I'm still, ahem, subservient to dial-up), but this is apparently some sort of tech demo Nintendo distributed to developers and whonot to showcase the 'Cube's power.

Kind of neat, I guess. Maybe it's me, but I didn't find the demonstration impressive (then again, we're talking about 6 years ago). Huge Texture Dome (1:33) was kind of cool though. Also liked the Environmental Mapping Metal Mario!! (6:27). I remember it used to be a big deal to accurately portray the environment in the reflection of a car with all those different surfaces, so it was entertaining to see the same sort of thing applied to Mario.

However, now I officially deem the Yoshi drumbeat version of Delfino Plaza to be the most annoying song to listen to when played over and over. Those drums drive me up a wall.

You guys absolutely MUST watch that video! This is a dream that will never come true! They actually made an improved version of Princess Peach's castle. Seeing the video was amazing, but it does lack polish and looks a little too dark and subdued for a Mario game. Some parts of the castle looked too much like Twilight Princess. Interesting find, ShadowBrain.

EDIT: It also looks like a somewhat brighter version of Luigi's Mansion.

Agreed, especially the Anti-Aliasing Hangar. And I didn't see what was amazing about the Environmental Mapping Metal Mario. It's basically the same as in SM64, unless my memory deceives me. Other then that, amazing find.

Also, I LOLed when the framerate lowered at the coined parts.

Where do you think this would fit on TMK proper? I know I don't have the power to put it anywhere, but... shoot I can't recall if there's a "Tech Demo" section or something.

This thread would be better put in Mario chat for being vaguely related to Mario. That seems to be the only difference between Mario chat and Video Game chat, whether it has to do with Mario in some way.

Well it was a GCN tech demo and, like I said, I didn't watch it.

Same here. Anyway, that demo was amazing, save the mis-spelling of "Castle" right at the beginning (seriously, who thinks "castel" was the correct way to spell "castle"?).

The hardest consonant in the word is silent so "castle" is pretty nonsensical. Cassull.

As neat as the concept seems to me, those images seemed rather odd, even disturbing. It must be the dev-iness element.

Shadow, there actually is a "Tech Demo" section in Specials. This might be fit to go there.
