The most recent Super Smash Bros. Brawl update is an item called the Golden Hammer -- a super version of the standard hammer which also lets you run in midair if you are rapidly tapping the button.
It's come to my attention that this is a direct reference to the infamous Golden Hammer in the classic
Wrecking Crew for the NES... the Golden Hammer was very, very rare, but when you had it you did more damage, swung it more quickly, and could run over gaps in space by rapidly tapping the button. In addition, the Brawl Golden Hammer appears on a pedestal/platform thing that looks somewhat like the pedestal the hammer and golden hammer appear on in Wrecking Crew.
Between Eggplant Man in two GC titles and this... well, no, we aren't seeing a Wrecking Crew resurge, but it is interesting!
