I'm thinking about getting Final Fantasy IV for DS. Having never played an FF title before, my knowledge of the series is limited at best. Opinions?

None of the FF games have anything to do with each other, so you can jump in anywhere. IVDS is quite good, but note well that it gets pretty hard toward the end.

Judging by my brother's experiences with it, it sounds like FFIII (DS) is ridiculously difficult.

New fad of the month. I'm calling it.

I tried using a picture of Gary Busey, but it sadly didn't look like Gary Busey once the video arrived. The picture I used is on this page in case you want to give it a shot.

Uhhh, no. Like most JRPGs, FFIII and FFIV have a difficulty of ZERO. There is absolutely no skill-based gameplay. There can be situations of not having leveled up enough for where you're trying to go, but that is not "difficulty".

Well, then by "difficulty", I guess I meant "long-ass grinding sessions and a crappy save system".

Also, maybe that N64 Kid thing should('ve) be(en) a thread...

It's not too late to make it a thread, you know.

That's how I felt about EarthBound. For all the good stuff it had, it was hampered by the need to grind for hours in order to safely get to the next area. I feel there are other traditional RPGs that fall into that same trap. Either that or I'm bad at RPGs and need to level up a lot more to win by the popular "mash Attack" strategy.

Got it.

Yeah, Earthbound... actually, the only time I think I really had to grind was in that final area before you fight Giygas, and that was basically because I kept dying on the way.

Dragon Quest IV, however... Well, let's just say that, as of late, I've taken to playing it while I listen to music, instead of the other way around.

FFIV get. Contrary to what anyone may say, unless one has ground sufficiently beforehand, the game's battles often require oodles of careful strategy and therefore count as "difficult" in my books.
