Mega Man 9 Rated (http://www.classification.gov.au/special.html?n=46&p=156&sTitle=mega+man+9&sMediaFilm=1&sMediaPublications=1&sMediaGames=1&sDateFromM=1&sDateFromY=1970&sDateToM=6&sDateToY=2008&record=228120)
Apparently there may be a Mega Man 9 after many many years of X and Battle Network Mega Man games. I hope that this is true.
-
Old (a few days) news, and since it's only OFLC, it's anyone's guess.
-
Yeah it is old, but I figured I'd supply this forum with a topic of it.
-
I might as well add that I'm super excited about the possibility.
-
Meh, I'll wait and see. It's a new, real Mega Man, but to me, that's like hearing about a new, real Star Wars game. It's just hard for me to get excited.
-
Meh, I'll wait and see. It's a new, real Mega Man, but to me, that's like hearing about a new, real Star Wars game. It's just hard for me to get excited.
What's exciting is that the Classic series hasn't had an installment since Mega Man & Bass in 1998 (2003 if you count the GBA remake). Fans have been waiting a decade for a true Mega Man title, instead of all the ZXs, Zeros, Star Forces, etc. This is there golden opportunity to re-experience the classic 2D formula that made Mega Man so famous.
-
What about the PSP remake?
-
That isn't anywhere near a real Classic Mega Man game. Also, I love all the canon spinoffs (but Battle Network and Star Force can die) but I do loves me some classic Mega Man.
-
What about the PSP remake?
But thats what MMPU is, a remake. A reboot. Not a real chronological continuation to MM&B.
-
If it were a reboot, wouldn't that render all the original games inactive? No, it's just a remake that doesn't have anything to do with the normal line of games.
-
People, I only said that because of
(2003 if you count the GBA remake)
-
That's a port, not a remake. Everything is the same, aside from the sound being considerably lower quality.
-
If you were to count ports and remakes, wouldn't Mega Man Anniversary Collection count too?
-
FAKE.

-
Looks too classic to be real (aside from the Mega Man sprite which looks like X). But we'll see, I guess.
-
The day they make Megaman 9 is the day I stop breathing in exchange for an hour of play (seeing as how I'd probably die in a minute or so, I don't think I'd get that far in the game, but whatever).

Great. MM9 is going to be the new Cloverfield monster. Every schmo is gonna start making terrible fake screens and every other schmo is gonna believe it. Of course, this provides material for some epic Rickrolls, but that's about the only positive aspect.
-
But yeah, this screen here is pretty epically fake.
-
It's real, It's very real. Pictures arent in order.

It's going to be a Wiiware game and will look like it was made on the NES. But yeah the picture Luigison posted is fake.
-
Okay, I'll trade in my breath for play time because it's surely coming out. Some of the robot masters have...uh...odd names, however.
-
Like Wo-Man?
-
Splash Woman????? Otherwise, woot.
-
Actually, one of them is named Plugman and another is named Jewelman. They had over a decade to come up with these names and this is the result?
Bah, I shouldn't complain. I can't wait for it to come out.
-
If they did it right, they took the Robot Masters from player submissions.
-
If you think Plug Man and Jewel Man are dumb names, I question how much Mega Man you've played.
-
Dustman, Yamatoman, Plantman, Crashman, Pharaohman...just to name a few stupid names in the Megaman series. Even though some of these robot masters delivered everything they promised (Pharaohman is a pharaoh, Plantman is a plant and Dustman is a vacuum cleaner) one must wonder why Inafune would create them in the first place. I already know the answer to that, but whatever.
-
What's particularly dumb about them?
Also, I don't think I'm getting through to you. Inafune didn't design them!
-
and therein lies the problem?
-
I'm still not seeing a problem. Like, did you ever play Mega Man 1 through 8. Also Mega Man & Bass.
-
Also, I don't think I'm getting through to you. Inafune didn't design them!
Get through to me? I didn't know you were trying. Sure, they took a few robots from player designs, but not all of them were done that way.
-
Have you ever beaten a Mega Man game?
-
Of course I have. I know that at the end of the game they give the robot's name and creator. But not all of them have been done by fans.
-
Most of them from Mega Man 3 on were, however.
-
Looks too classic to be real (aside from the Mega Man sprite which looks like X). But we'll see, I guess.
How can you say it's fake? It was confirmed in Nintendo Power.
And Capcom deliberately gave it NES-style graphics to keep it continuous with the rest of the games.
-
Okay, you get the award for Totally Not Paying Attention To Anything At All.
Observe:

THIS IMAGE IS A FAKE.
THIS IS WHAT I WAS REFERRING TO BEFORE THE OFFICIAL SCANS WERE POSTED.
PAY ATTENTION NEXT TIME.
-
Capcom is breaking tradition. Instead of fighting 8 robots with the word "man" at the end of their name, Megaman will be fighting 7 robots with the word "man" at the end of their name and 1 robot with the word "woman" at the end of her name.
-
Honestly, people whining about anything that could possibly be bad about this game are reets. I would still be excited if there was a robot master named Poop Man. It's an original series Mega Man game.
-
Poop Man would rock.
-
I wonder what the Angry Video Game Nerd thinks about this... *thinks back to his Chronologically Confused video*
-
For the record, apparently Splash Woman isn't officially confirmed yet?
-
I honestly have no idea. I'm just going by what Wikipedia said (which is about as reliable as a plank of wood). Whoever edited the article was confident that MM9 would be the first to feature a female robot master; however, (like you said) she isn't officially confirmed.
-
A female robot master? What is this nonsense of which you speak! Next we'll have female protagonists or some other pie-in-the-sky tomfoolery.
-
I can just see Lara Croft coming into your room and blowing your kneecap out with a few shots from her pistol.
-
Or Peach coming in and crying on you, then calming down to heal herself.
-
This game actually looks pretty promising. Old-skool!
-
Mega Man 9 is coming out for all three systems.
And has everyone seen the footage (http://wii.ign.com/articles/888/888041p1.html)?
-
I'm oddly excited for this game. I don't really know why, other than Mega Man rocks. I only played MM1 and MM6 before my NES broke, and I had a MM game for Game Boy but lost it. This was all a long time ago.
Also, Chupperson owned you guys.
-
More companies should do this, actually. Maybe a Genesis-style Sonic 4 or an NES style Super Mario Bros 4.
-

Iv never owned any MegaMan games but I have played a NES one before, but this one intrigues me, or because its a sidescroller
-

Or a C64-style Maniac Mansion 3. But, sadly, that will never happen.
-
Maniac Mansion. I still play that once every summer just because it's so open ended.
But yeah, tough luck for Nintendo after getting rear ended by Backstabbing-com again.
-

Pirates have made a NES version of Super Mario World (Super Mario Bros. 4 in Japan), so I'm no sure if Nintendo will consider making an NES-style game of that.

Mega Man Box art shirt from E3
Since its downloadable I have no idea why they made a cover
-
Because it's awesome and pays tribute to the horrible Mega Man boxes of old! Really, man.
-
This is pure awesome. I'm shocked that Nintendo actually is doing this - and pleasantly supprised. :D

Or maybe a new Zelda or Metroid game in the classic style. There's a ton of possibilities that could be used if this new Megaman does well enough to warrant more new games made like this. :)
-
If nothing on that cover is in the game, that makes it even cooler.
Srsly, best cover ever.
-
I especially like how they merged the European and American artwork.
-
I love how he has a pistol when he already has a arm cannon.
-
Do you remember a few days ago when I posted about the retro themed Mega Man 9 box art as featured on a T-shirt which a lucky 1up staffer won at E3? Well the good news is now you too could own one of these fashionable garments!
Yup there going up for sale

-
That link just goes to a deleted blog post or w/e. But I really want one.
-
Best box art ever. It really takes me back to the days when a game's box art had absolutely nothing to do with the game it contained. Wow, Capcom really went all out on this one.
I still have to wonder, why is the game on Xbox 360 and PS3? It's essentially a new NES game (with non of those fancy HD super-realistic graphics you PS3 and Xbox gamers love so much), so it should be exclusive to the Wii.
And yes, they should do more "classic-style" games. Sonic 4, Super Mario Bros. 5, Metroid, anything!
-

I want to throw you into a deep, dark hole that you can never escape from.
-
I want to throw you into a deep, dark hole from which you can never escape.
-
The game was originally developed solely with WiiWare in mind, but they threw it up on Ecksbocks Live as an afterthought. General consensus is that the WiiWare version is better.
-
Better...how? As in, Wii does simple graphics better, or what?
-
Well, there's that, but a sideways Wiimote also imitates an NES controller better.
-
Graphics, graphics, graphics. Why is the argument always about graphics? Sheesh. And this game was practically made just to destroy those arguments. I must agree about the controller, though.
-
Holy. Snap. I thought MM was trapped in the hole I dug. Ah well. Nice to meet ya.
Anyways, I'm best with Wiimote on NES games.
-
WiiWare Mega Man 9: 480p
360/PS3 Mega Man 9: 1080p
It's not better on Wii. It's blurrier on Wii.
-
High resolution doesn't work for NES games anyway, plus I don't see how that automatically makes a game "better".
-
Unfortunately my TV does not have HDMI input and can only display 1080i. If it could display full 1080p HD I'd consider the PS3 version, but as is MM9 has black bars on each side when playing on my PS3. I could probably set the PS3 to show MM9 full screen, but that would be a hassle since the PS3 doesn't remember settings for each game. My Wii at 480p displays full screen. While this is a lower resolution than the PS3 version I'd rather play full screen with an NES styled Wiimote. The PS3 controller isn't necessarily bad; I'm just trained to roll my thumb on side-by-side buttons from the NES Mega Man days.
-
I used to be a brainwashed idiot who hated good graphics too.
-
So, a good game with good graphics on PS3 or 360 is bad, but the same game with worse graphics on Wii is good?
I gotta clean off the wall behind my head, 'cause that just blew my mind.
-
It's pretty much irrelevant with MM9 unless you want your pixels to have slightly sharper edges (and be made of more pixels). As it is, it looks the same as an NES game on my Wii, and I believe that was the intended effect.
-
In a "modern" game, you should expect good graphics. In a game intentionally designed to look twenty years, you're a fool if you care about the graphics at all.
-
Exactly. And doubly so if you want to try and trick yourself into thinking it looks any different on any other system for the purposes of promoting said system(s).
-
I'm not going to lie: I would dig new games with simple graphics, i.e. not intentionally designed to look like NES, but just sprite-based or whatever. Heck, if you're a square block but the control is good, it's a fun game. While I think good graphics are nice, I don't think it's necessary for every modern game to have them. At this point, I think graphics that leave a lot up to the imagination are actually more fun to experience because it tricks your mind into thinking that stuff looks way cooler than it actually appears on screen. Maybe this is just an effect on my imagination and other people don't react that way. Who knows?
-

Perhaps, but that's how we ended up with stuff like this:
(https://themushroomkingdom.net/board/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.aeropause.com%2Fwordpress%2Farchives%2Fimages%2F2008%2F06%2Fmegamanbox.jpg&hash=2a05f88604b50970f62b9cd18a2dc8b1)
"High-Resolution Graphics"... LOL
-
I'm not talking about concept art, if that's what you mean. I mean that my mind kind of interpolates the details into games and gives kind of the same effect as reading a book, since you automatically put in what you think is cool.
Anyway, Capcom is funny, since NES games all have the same resolution.
-
I love to read and "see" what's going on in the book, but when I look at the dragon in Adventure, all I see is a duck.
-
Attn reets:
1) The "graphics argument" was created by this retarded exchange:
---
General consensus is that the WiiWare version is better.
Better...how? As in, Wii does simple graphics better, or what?
Well, there's that, but a sideways Wiimote also imitates an NES controller better.
---
A) I want to see The Chef's data in support of this "general consensus"
B) Glorb's innocent question
C) Which ShadowBrian used to say the Wii "does simple graphics better". Uh, no it doesn't! Being bad at good graphics doesn't make you good at bad graphics.
2)
Exactly. And doubly so if you want to try and trick yourself into thinking it looks any different on any other system for the purposes of promoting said system(s).
It DOES look different between the systems. Obviously the graphics are the same everywhere, but the Wii only outputs images in 480p via analog component cables while 360 and PS3 use digital HDMI at up to 1080p. This means:
i) If you're playing on a cathode ray tube, Mega Man 9 will look identical between all systems.
ii) If you're playing on an HDTV, Mega Man 9 will look significantly worse on Wii due to lower resolution output and the inherent impurities of an analog signal.
3) Note that the 360 version is strictly superior to PS3 since the 360 one has achievements but the PS3 one does not have trophies.
4) Taking all this into account, the 360 version is clearly best to me. The Wii controller is better for this game, but not better enough to be worth the resolution and achievement point sacrifice. For someone who doesn't care about their gamerscore and has a bad TV or is blind, the Wii version would be the better choice.
-
| 360 | PS3 | Wii |
1080p HD | Yes | Yes | No |
Controller D-pad | No | Yes | Yes |
Horizontal Buttons | No | No | Yes |
Full Screen | ? | No? | Yes |
Achievements | Yes | No | No |
-
The Wii version still has achievements, they just don't matter for anything besides 100% completion of the game. On an unrelated note, do they all three have DLC?
-
All the versions have those built-in achievements. 360 uses 12 of them for its real achievements.
360 controllers have d-pads. There is quite a variety of how it feels between my four controllers, but they are all a variation of horrifically bad. So that should stay on No. :)
-
Achievements shouldn't be a factor in the Xbox 360 version because all but one are pretty much impossible for the average gamer (all of you).
-
Not for Kimimaru.

Seconded.

What makes Kimimaru so special?
