Mario Chat / Re: Dancing With The Starmen

I am impressed they decided to have someone dressed as Toad instead of Yoshi. Usually Toad gets the shaft in events such as this.

Well, it was a SMB-themed dance, so it would stand to reason that Yoshi would be excluded. I'm just sorry Bowser never showed up.

/\ /\ Suffix, that's a post of the year candidate if I've ever seen one.

In fact I, in my capacity as ADVANCED Poster Awards Emcee Emeritus, declare it the winner in honore.

In any event, Suffix, I do believe you're right. I would argue that those blog articles with a catch title and a list format are more than just a threat to the "magazine-style" websites like TMK. They're a plague to the internet and a bane of our intelligence. Articles like "The Top 20 Mario Moments You Won't BELIEVE," are attention grabbers, sure. But there is really a paucity of any real content in such articles.

Yes, maybe the information sources have changed. But isn't it also possible that TMK can remain the premiere resource for all things classic Mario? Maybe we can't keep up with all the new things in the gaming world. But there's a resurgence in retro gaming, especially among the younger demographic who are in many cases discovering for the first time "lost classics" or games we've always known as great. Vinyl sales are up in the music world, and I have my own ideas about why. But I also think that classic gaming might be our wheelhouse. TMK still has a great feel after all these years, and there's still a purpose to this website.

Maybe the forums will flicker out, but I still see TMK as a cornucopia of reliable Mario information.

Video Game Chat / Re: N64 Controller Order
« on: November 03, 2014, 09:24:47 AM »
I've got 7 or 8 controllers for the N64. The third part ones didn't break as easily -- the joysticks possessed a bit more integrity -- yet they never felt as "natural" as the Nintendo controllers. Hardly, if ever, did I use them. For whatever reason, my first clear green controller is the best one I have, and it's closing in on 17 or 18 years.

I've heard that's its possible to harvest the joystick from the Gamecube controller and implant it in the N64 controller; but I don't know if I trust my skill with a project like that.

I also wonder if something like this would work.

You won't find out the answer to that until next year.

having bowed to the irrational demand for mayonnaise on pizza.

....? Who thought that that was a good idea? Just thinking about it makes my stomach turn.

Speaking of failed pizza experiments, I recently had "hamburger pizza." Featuring mustard and catsup as sauce and small pieces of ground beef and American cheese as toppings, Hamburger pizza wins the blue ribbon of disgusting food mashups. My guess is that mayo pizza is not much better.

No, exactly the same in Beijing. But Pizza Hut is different (worse).
That appears to be a place somewhere in the world (OFC), but I don't think it's a chain restaurant.

...and I've never liked Pizza Hut in the first place. It's hard for me to imagine a *worse* Pizza hut.

Yes! Yes! I'll be bingewatching SBEmails all day now. Thanks, Luigison!

Speaking of Strong Bad emails, I also used to enjoy the TMK Mailbag. Staff bantering was enjoyable.

The internet of the early 2000s was a fine place.

Is it just me or is it beginning to smell like teen spirit in this thread?

Does that even qualify as music? On a similar note,

Just imagining Bongo Bongo beating on that drum in the basement and hearing his unholy beat throughout the entire dungeon is quite enough to give me a serious case of the willies.

Ha! The Secret Page. I haven't looked at that in years. *Looks at it* Yep. Can't say that anymore.

General Chat / Re: Guitars

I'll tell you what, that guitar has a pretty finish! Generally I'm a fan of the older model amps from the 70s, but as far as newer amps go, I think Peavey is the way to go.

Luigison -- your next task is a video of you playing something on it! I'd love to hear how the setup sounds.
