Here's a conversation I had with my new roommate the other day:

Roommate: Oh, you have a Wii?
Me: Yeah.
Roommate: What games you got for it?
Me: Galaxy, Twilight Princess, Super Paper, Elebits, Excite Truck, and a bunch of Gamecube games.
Roommate: Do you have Melee?
Me: Yeah.
Roommate: Melee's awesome. I'll take you in that any day. I'll totally kick your [donkey].
Me: Well, I only brought one controller with me from home.
Roommate: Oh.
Me: ... Brawl looks really good.
Roommate: I hope that game sucks.
Me: ... Wait, what?
Roommate: Smash isn't a real fighting game.
Me: Why not?
Roommate: It's in 3D.
Me: ... No it's not.
Roommate: Well, you know what I mean.
Me: ...
Roommate: I mean, I know it's in 2D, but still, it's, like, not flat. Mario's, like... you know.
Me: Right.
Roommate: Smash is kiddy. I play real fighting games. And RPGs.
Me: Oh. Ever play Chrono Trigger?
Roommate: That game's [dukar].
Me: *shocked expression*
Roommate: I don't wanna offend you or anything, but it was [poo-poo]. Final Fantasy is way better.
Me: So I guess you didn't get all 14 endings.
Roommate: Actually, I did.
Me: So you hated it, and yet you played it long enough to get all 14 endings?
Roommate: I was bored.
Me: ... I like Paper Mario.
Roommate: Yeah, I liked the second one. The first one was boring. It was just, like, Mario looks at a bubble and thinks about what he's gonna do and you get people like Lakilester... and that's all it is.
Me: ... Huh?
Roommate: You know.

Who's Plok?

AT LAST, A REAL HERO!

Plok is an irresistible, irrepressible, unstoppable, highly improbable and downright dangerous bundle of pure energy.

Plok does not like fleas.

Plok has the amazing ability to fire all his body parts at will -- Plok can really 'throw' a punch.

Plok has a very short fuse; at the slightest irritation those limbs begin to fly.

Plok hates fleas.

Plok is a true hero, with a heart of gold and joints of the highest-quality Velcro.

Plok is a man with a mission: he is dedicated to ridding the world of the menace of the dreaded Fleas.

Plok is a dreamer, a wanderer, a free spirit. He's suave and elegant. He's grade-A, first-class prime cut.

Plok really does not like fleas.

Plok is the king of the beautiful island called Akrillic, part of the archipelago Poly-Esta.

Everyone knows that Plok is simply crazy about flags (of course you do!).  He has them everywhere.  He uses them to mark out which parts of Akrillic (he thinks) belongs to him.  His flags are all over the place! Now, what you may not know is that Plok has a particular favorite flag, a big square one with a picture of himself on it.  He keeps this special flag on top of his own house so that he can see it every day when he gets up and every night when he returns from a hard day of... uh, of being Plok!

If you were a despicable character and you wanted to upset Plok or get him out of the way for some reason, what would you do?  Hide his special flag?  Well, that’s exactly what happened today! Somebody, he doesn’t know who, has stolen his special flag and placed it on nearby Cotton Island.  As you can imagine, Plok is hopping mad about this.  First thing this morning he set off in his boat to retrieve his property.  But knowing Plok, he’s not gonna leave it at that.  Nope, no way!

Anyway, that’s the story so far, but there may be more to this business than meets the eye...

Not all of them are characters I want, some are just ones I think are likely, like Bowser Jr. or Tingle. I want Plok in for the same reason Pit and Ice Climbers should be in: he's an obscure character who only got one game which should have gotten a lot more attention and who has a huge moveset potential. I know he has worse chances than Banjo-Kazooie, but who would have ever guessed Ice Climbers or Dr. Mario?

I noticed I somehow forgot to put Ryuta Kawashima's floating head on there. As weird as he is, I wouldn't count him out entirely. The fact that he's based on a real person shouldn't be too big of an issue, since Dr. Wright, based on Will, got in. If he was in, I could see him being the new Mr. Game & Watch -- not that G&W should be cut, but that the feeling of unlocking a complete WTD newcomer with a weird fighting style at the end (especially one rendered in primitive graphics that launched Nintendo's handheld system) would be transferred to him. Besides, his theme song is already in.

Tell me you wouldn't love to KO Pikachu by yelling "BRUE!" at him.

Also, I may have said this already, but I want to see a Paper Mario stage that turns everyone on it into paper versions, instead of just adding Paper Mario as a character. I want to see Paper Sonic, Paper Ganondorf, Paper Captain Falcon, ... and Paper Plok.

Here's what I want:

Actually, it could just be Plok, and I'd be happy. But more realistically, all I need is Dr. Mario and Mr. L alternate costumes, Wind Waker Link, and Geno, plus everything on the site.

Game Blog / Re: Smash Bros. Brawl Delayed Until March 9th in the USA
« on: January 16, 2008, 08:08:19 PM »
Dang it, now I won't be able to avoid spoilers. I could stand staying off the internet for two weeks, but I doubt I have the self-control for six. I wouldn't mind at all if it was Twilight Princess game-improving delays, but the fact that the Japanese release date was only pushed back by a week lends credence to the idea that NOA just wants more marketing time, and the Japanese delay was just to make us feel better. Not that Brawl really needs huge amounts of marketing. Isn't Melee still selling a couple thousand copies a week? The Wii is way bigger than the Gamecube, and Brawl is a higher quality game with lots more exposure thanks to the proliferation of the internet. I think there are already more than enough people prepared to buy it on launch day. They'd be better off launching it as soon as they can, and then once they recover from the first week of sales, they can start worrying about selling it to the casuals who wouldn't wait in line for seven hours anyway.

Of course, there's always the possibility that they're adding content for the American version, which would make me happy.

General Chat / Re: Worst dates ever!
« on: January 10, 2008, 11:38:41 PM »
I too have yet to go on an actual date, but the closest I've come to one was about a year ago when I was home from college on a break, and a good friend of mine who happens to be a female, whom at the time I had not thought about dating because she's a vegetarian, was also home, and she suggested that we meet at Pizza Hut. Once we got there, everything went pretty much perfectly until her sister and friend come in and sit down with us. Since it wasn't really a date, it wouldn't be all that bad, except that the friend was the girl I'd had a crush on since at least 10th grade, and who goes to the same college as me, and whom I had been trying for years to work up enough courage to ask out. Awkward. (Incidentally, several months later when I did ask her out, her response was "Sorry, I'm going with my boyfriend." She said it more politely than that, but after four years of buildup, there's no way for that not to hurt.) Since I'm too introverted, that's as interesting as the story gets.

New Super Mario Bros. + Paper Mario + (1/4 x Donkey Kong Country) = x

x = CrossEyed7's game suggestion?

Yeah, that'd be pretty close, though I might throw in a fraction of SMRPG just to make sure it had higher HP values. I was thinking of also adding a fraction of M&L for the puzzles that use Bros. Powers, but the Paper Mario and 1/4 DKC pretty much cover that.

Tales of Symphonia is the accursed game that's fun for the first 40 hours and by then you realize that it's interminable madness. With good music played by outdated synths.

Actually, I beat it in 40 hours. So it was fun the whole time, apart from those ice puzzles. And for some reason I really like old synths.

Can't you right-click it and click on "Add to dictionary"?

Or maybe your problem is that you're on a Mac, and you can't right-click.

They forgot the "FREEPRONWHATEVER.COM" spam from the random bots.

Still great, though.

DON'T READ THIS
On Sepruary 41th, a 14-year-old girl name Mahnmae Bathineo was killed by a knife 47 times. Repost this to 20 videos or you will be haunted by her Boo.

Well, now that that's out of the way, I can say that Pablo Belmonte's animation is still impressive, but, as always, he loses some credibility whenever text appears on the screen. The 10 Wii Points per DS Star thing is the equivalent of the "the new PBM-KHAN circuit is really near neaaar neeaaar buildings" from the F-Zero one.

Don't forget the Red Star from Galaxy. That's pretty much a P-Wing version of the Wing Cap

Mario Chat / Re: Mario Party 8: Meanest yet?
« on: January 09, 2008, 11:39:55 AM »
Mario Party X will be meanest. Because, you know, it's got an X. Mario Party 8 is like America's Got Talent, with Piers, and Mario Party 9 will be like the British version of America's Got Talent (so, Britain's Got Talent), where it has Piers and Simon. And some British Paula. But Mario Party X will be like Hell's Got Talent, where the British Paula is replaced with Anne Robinson, but she's disguised, so at first you think she's just another random Paula, and then she turns out to be mean.
