Title: Worst Video Games Made
Post by: Nintendo Bros. on January 13, 2007, 10:13:18 AM
I hate it when these random electronic companies make up these trashy games. Do you have any games that you think sucked?

I HATE it when The Disney Channal makes a "That's So Raven" game or a "Hannah Montana" game. THOSE THINGS ABSOLUTELY DON'T WORK! I also hate the video games that were based off movies. But I got to admit, Harry Potter was OK, but still. People need more Mario, Link, and anything else worthwhile.

To be honest, and I hope I don't get banished to the Plain of Eternal Torment for this blasphemy, but I'm really, really tired of Mario games. Seriously, I was hesitant to try NSMB because I was just so burnt out on Nintendo mascot-related games. Luckily, I am willing to try SM Galaxy if I ever get a Wii.

I think this was a "worst video games" topic (which, btw, I think we already have), not a "which games are you burnt out on?" topic.

Well, check out Mario Party Advance or Mario Tennis: Power Tour and you'll see why I'm so burnt out on Mario games. But if you really wanna see some pure, undistilled video game crapulence, I suggest Superman 64 or Bubsy 3D.

A more recent crappy game is Crash Boom Bang! on the DS.

Yeah, I had that same feeling too a while ago. It turns out it was because I was limiting myself to only Mario games for a long time and never tried anything new. That feeling's gone now and I enjoy them again, but now I balance them with other games too.

Also, never buy movie tie-ins because they suck so monumentally bad it's a wonder they haven't sucked up half the universe and imploded themselves due to how bad they are.

I had that feeling recently too, and also fixed it by playing other games/taking a break from gaming. I do other things now that are not related to gaming, like drawing or practicing my keyboard (Ironically, all I can play well is game music).

I can't remember which historical figure said this, but I'm going to throw it out there anyway..

All things in moderation.

I HATE The Legend of Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link because it was so confusing and it didn't make very much sense to me.

That game was a classic!  It rocks! Why does everyone hate it so much?  (Everyone because I've heard it's the most hated Zelda game)

It's an unpopular Zelda game because many thought it was too different when compared to it's original counter-part. I mean, you gotta admit, there really is no Zelda game like it.

Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing is certainly a candidate for worst game ever made.
On consoles, Superman 64 is a top candidate.

Astro Boy: Omega Factor owns all.
The Disney platformers on 16-bit systems owned all.
Many many Star Wars games own all.

There are lots more good ones, too.

I'm saying you're wrong.

In this day and age where there's a game for every other license, ya gotta admit that a majority of them are crap, when compared to way back when.

It's an unpopular Zelda game because many thought it was two different when compared to it's original counter-part. I mean, you gotta admit, there really is no Zelda game like it.

Which is why I'm kinda hoping for another Zelda made in it's style.

At the rate they come out, it would be impossible to play all of them. Plus, they tend to get abysmal ratings.

In my opinion, the only truly awesome movie-based games (i.e., not based on a whole franchise, like Star Wars Battlefront) are GoldenEye 007, Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, Batman (NES), and Spider-Man 2. TV-based shows are usually fountains of crap, but Astro Boy: Omega Factor and 24: The Game both pwn.

I haven't played any wrestling games, but what's the WWE game that took about fifteen minutes to load?

I also never played ET or Aquaman, but both are supposed to be the cream of the crap... I mean dukar.

The Disney platformers on 16-bit systems owned all.
Duck Tales for the NES was awesome.

Any WWE game for PSP. Seriously, anything on PSP takes seven years to load. I remember playing SOCOM on my brother's PSP, and I actually waited ten minutes before it even got to the freakin' title screen.

Right now, I'll have to say Custer's Revenge is pretty bad. Yes, I've played this sick and twisted game. Who knew someone would actually go as far as making a rape-simulator?

Also, go ahead and hit me, people who actually like this game, but I really despised Glover. I found it's gameplay to be very boring.

To call it a rape simulator is completely overstating the quality.

Myself, I play it periodically, and sometimes go on with the other classics (Beat 'Em and Eat 'Em, Knight on the Town, and variants).

I myself specifically didn't want to bring it up, but anyway, what's your high score?

Yeah, those games were terrible! I played both. I think console games like Mario Party needs to stay away from handhelds. That So Raven was seriously pointless to me. They even made a Lizzie McGuire game, which I despised. I really don't like Mario Party 7 alot. MP6, seemed, well, funner. I also disliked Harvest Moon for Girls on the GBA. I have no idea why I bought Animal Crossing: Wild World. Animal Crossing on the GC seems so pointless. I swear I haven't touched the game for 7 months.

I had to balance my Mario games, too. So I played a lot of simulation games and I play LoZ. The balance was then there. I really like Simulation games.

For sheer boredom and nothing else, try Armorines: Project S.W.A.R.M. for N64. It's boring, the level design is a complete mess, the four weapons in the whole game are just variations on each other, the controls are terrible, the plot is derivative and apparently written by an eight-year-old, the graphics are chunky and lame, and the levels are all extremely repatitive. And what's sad about it is that the game itself isn't remarkably bad, it's just painfully, gut-wrenchingly boring.

Lesse, crappy games...Tetris Worlds (the GBA and PC versions), the GBC version of 3-D Ultra Pinball Thrillride (generic at best, unlike the PC version), the GBA port of R-Type III, any Yu-Gi-Oh! game that strayed from the real game's mechanics (the worst that I've played being Dungeon Dice Monsters and The Sacred Cards), Mario Pinball Land...the list would go on if I was actually trying.

I personally hate Hamtaro and Tamagotchi, but Pokemon is well and truly going strong and still has an expansive fanbase.

I loved SMB2. Any game where you can play as Toad and throw vegetables gets my vote.

I actually prefer SMB2 to SMB3, but then again I disliked SMB3 for some reason. For me;

SMB > SMB2J > SMB2 > SMB3

~~~
Anyway, a game that I was not really fond of was Monster Truck Madness for the GBA. It needed more replay value imo, and the longer races just got tedious. Plus, you can't use your favourite trucks- to the end, using some of the starting trucks will guarantee you a loss.
In my opinion, Pokemon is pretty much undead, shambling around in some sort of horrific half-life (like the zombies from, well, Half-Life). The Mystery Dungeon and Rescue Rangers games are some of the dumbest specimens of crap ever that they shouldn't legally be called entertainment.
Title: Re: Worst Video Games Made
Superman 64
And I agree, the Pokemon games are getting worse. They should just leave the franchise alone. Really, I don't know of anybody who actually knows the names of the Pokemon after the Red, Blue, and Yellow versions. I do remember, that after Smash Bros Melee came out, and everybody saw Pichu, most were like "What is that? Is it a Pokemon??"
This is sort of off topic, but I really hope that there are no new playable Pokemon in the next version of SSB. New stages would be fine, as long as they are based on something that everybody can recognize (like the SSB64 stage, or a stage based off of a location in Red, Blue, and/or Yellow). [/off topicness]
I wish they stopped Pokemon. Let's see...they have blue, red, gold, silver, crystal, emrald, yellow, green, Mystery Dungeon, Pokemon SNAP! (which was a load of crap) and Pokemon Ranger (which was a STUPID IDEA) See, Super Mario Bros. began with a bang, and that's why people love it when Nintendo come out with new games for it.
But when it comes to Pokemon, it is not cool at all. It was maybe those lame cartoon shows which blown the series, but they are coming out...WITH TWO MORE!! I mean, come on. Pokemon is getting old, and every task is the same, to capture Pokemon. Well, this will hopefully end soon. At least Mario still demonates Pokemon by a LONG shot.
Pokemon as a game is awesome. Blue and Red pretty much defined what RPG's are all about. I mean, I'm freakin' 17 and restart the game every time I finish to try new things. Just because I'm an old fart doesn't mean I can't enjoy the "kiddy stuff."
I, personally, thought Mystery Dungeon could have been better if they made it so you couldn't tell what the items were automatically. And they would have been better off never making Pokémon Ranger. If I had a DS, I'd be looking forward to seeing all the new monsters in Pearl and Diamond. The cartoon deserves to die a horrible death, as should the card game.
I've physically seen them bought. My brother bought one of the newer starter decks at Wal-Mart a couple months ago. Anyway, I miss the cards with e-Reader support. They stopped after like 3 sets.
Back on the topic of worst games ever...Mega Man Battle Network 2, 4, and 5. Now, I picked these three because MMBN and MMBN3 were fun (or as fun as collect-a-thons get), and I've heard good things about MMBN6; however, I've played the other 3 games, and...they suck.
I pick up hundreds of pokemon cards at my local sold-by-the-pound thrift shop every once in a while, and finally got to sorting through them today.  I have a lot...  I like the Pokemon TCG, but hardly anyone actually PLAYS it like I do.  They just like to collect the pretty little pieces of cardboard and let them gather dust in their closet.  I'm not so rabid as to join leagues or anything though.  I mostly use 1st gen Pokemon cards, as they got too weighed down with "new ideas" in the newer cards.
As to games I hate:  Do I even have to mention the Mario edutainment series?  Also, Spyro has gone waaay downhill in the last few years to the point where it is loathesome.  And most of the Nickelodeon games are horrible...
Actually, some games are so horrible that they're actually hilarious to play.  My favorite bad series is the old Kung-Fu games from Irem.  (A.K.A Spartan X, Spartan X2, etc. )
WHAT'S WRONG WITH ZELDA 2?!?!?!?
Title: Re: Worst Video Games Made
Eh, it was a fine game, and it had Error, who is cool, but it was just too different from Zelda 1 for many people.
I'd say the two worst spin-offs are Mortal Kombat: Special Forces and MK Mythologies: Sub-Zero. They leave you with a nasty taste in your mouth for days after playing them.
Yuck! I actually had the displeasure of playing Drake at my friend's house (it was a birthday gift from his parents, if I remember correctly), and I think it's safe to call it the absolute worst Xbox game ever (which, when you factor in the old Xbox launch games and platformers, is quite an accomplishment). He later sold it and got (I'm not kidding) nineteen cents. You can get way more for an old N64 controller.
Title: Re: Worst Video Games Made
Post by: CoconutMikeNIke on February 05, 2007, 10:26:25 PM
How many of the people here have actually played the E.T. game?  I doubt that most of the people that talk about it, not just here but on the whole internet, have never really played the fabled, horrible, game.  I could be mistaken, but for a game that had many copies buried, then destroyed, it seems more like word of mouth.
I would have to say, in my opinion, that RoboWarrior for the NES is one of the worst games ever.
Title: Re: Worst Video Games Made
Post by: Glorb on February 06, 2007, 12:24:33 PM
I've actually played E.T. on an emulator, but I'm pretty sure that, to truly appreciate its craptitute, you should play it on a real TV. However, I have played Pac-Man on a real Atari 2600, and it's so terrible that it came very close to ruining the whole franchise, along with a good chunk of Namco's and Atari's credibility.
Title: Re: Worst Video Games Made
Post by: WarpRattler on February 06, 2007, 02:32:21 PM
Yeah, a lot of arcade to 2600 conversions were crap. Battlezone, Centipede, and Tempest (which never got past prototype stage) all sucked on the 2600, but pwned in the arcade.
Title: Re: Worst Video Games Made
Post by: Glorb on February 07, 2007, 01:31:42 PM
That reminds me: I gotta play Tempest again. That game pwns. Everything. Including me, because I suck at it.
Tempest does indeed pwn. Even the Microsoft Arcade version.
My list...
This game called POW for the NES. It was some action game that I got for X-mas. That thing was hard as the devil. For example, in the 2nd level, you have to kick and punch this guy that kept shooting a gun that can kill you in one hit. And since you don't pick up many lives in the game, that is about as far as your get unless you happen to have the skill of god.
Lion King for SNES. I loved the movie, but not the game! Terrible controls, and for a Disney game, it sure was anything but a slice of cake. I couldn't count how many times I died trying to master those jumps on the "I cant wait to be King" level. And even then, the you have a pitiful amount of lives to began with.
Lord of the Ring for SNES. This would make Tolkien roll over in his grave - again (I'm sure he did on the animated movie). The caves that you had to explore were huge labyrinths that have little or no change to each "section". Its more tedious that you had to explore every nook and cranny of these caves to collect a bunch of scrolls and amulets that has NOTHING to do with the books. Did I mention that the CPU's of the other characters are amazingly stupid?
Yoshi's Story for N64. Took me 20 minutes to beat and the levels were super easy and virtually the same [darn] thing over and over again: eating fruit.
Mario is Missing for SNES. An educational game. I play to be entertained, not to learn.
Final Fantasy II for NES and PS1. The way you gain strength and level up is... ugh. That's too realistic if you ask me. Does beating yourself up to gain HP and having skills actually going down sound appealing?
Now if you want to know what are some of the most worst games of all time are...
Back on topic: Anybody ever played one of those Telefang games? For the unknowing, they're better known as the games hacked into "Pokémon Jade and Diamond", even though they have absolutely nothing to do with the Pokémon series. Anyway, those games weren't exactly great.
Battletoads is VERY difficult.  Fun though...  It's kinda one of those cult games that's so bad that it's good.  Like the Spartan X series.
Title: Re: Worst Video Games Made
Post by: PaperLuigi on February 11, 2007, 09:35:15 AM
I heard that if you beat Battletoads with a "cheating" device (there is something you can use to make the game easier, I just forgot the name) then you'll still be praised despite cheating. In other words, it's so hard that getting to the end is darn near impossible!! (But I guess someone's done it, right?)
Title: Re: Worst Video Games Made
Post by: Glorb on February 12, 2007, 06:45:46 PM
You mean a GameGenie? The game can't detect a cheating device, so it's not like if you used one in, say, SMB, the game would say that you cheated.
Title: Re: Worst Video Games Made
Why do you people think that a game is bad just because it's obscenely hard? I know people who actually enjoy playing a game that challenges them. And games nowadays are too easy, anyway. I prefer the older, almost impossible games over the newer, get through every stage on one life while playing Hard mode games.
There's a difference between dying because you don't know how to play the game well and dying because was badly coded.
Video games are just like everything else you're supposed to get good at.
Thing is, games force you to get good at them in order to proceed. A lot of other things you can stay bad at because you don't have to keep doing one task over and over until you get good enough.
Also, I think a lot of Games Being Easier Nowadays is due to people being good at games.
Title: Re: Worst Video Games Made
Post by: Chupperson Weird on February 16, 2007, 11:32:48 PM
SM64 has tighter control and three dimensions. It's a lot easier to move in 3 dimensions.
Title: Re: Worst Video Games Made
Post by: Glorb on February 17, 2007, 10:00:29 AM
I sort of remember when SM64 came out; it was considered awesome because it was full 3D. In fact, the mid-'90s were kind of a bad era for platformers, because some developers really just cared about making 3D games.
I remember a game called "U.S. Army Rangers: Tactical 3D Squad" or some other generic name of that nature. It was for the PS1, around the time that it started rotting to death. On the back was a list of "features" that went something like:
. Extreme 3D tactical graphics and different areas
. More than 4 real-life gameplay weapons for maximum action
. 3D environments include snow and the desert
. Real-time graphics and 3D gameplay polygons
. Intense tactical gameplay over six missions
. Super-realistic 3D real-time tactical pause menu
And so on. Seriously, the back of the box was essentially a crazy soup of various different words and phrases with the words "3D", "tactical", "gameplay" and "real-time" bandied about liberally. The game itself is so bad that if you put it next to a pile of actual feces, the two would be indistinguishable.
Dink Two and the Runes of Coolness
That is a bad game. It is in a topdown perspective, and you play a little guy that holds a sword (kind of like Zelda), excpet that this game stinks. Bad.
Whenever you try to hit an enemy, you often miss, as the game has poor hit detection. If you make it to the boss of the first area, you can't defeat him anyway, because he has no place that you can hit him on (thus making him invulnerable).
The sound is terrible. When you use your sword, Dink stabs and says "Yaa!" in a voice that doesn't match him at all, and when you lose all of your life power, the game further insults you by saying "You lost, you moron!"
It was good for a laugh or two (a few years back), but I have long since deleted it and thrown out the disk it was on. If you get the chance, do not play it.
Title: Re: Worst Video Games Made
Post by: Glorb on February 22, 2007, 10:55:21 AM
That reminds me of this spectacularly crappy NES game; I forget what it's called, but you play as this stupid little robot-looking guy, and you enter a random encounter every few seconds. The outcome of the fight is completely random, and most of the time you die.
Title: Re: Worst Video Games Made
Post by: Chupperson Weird on February 22, 2007, 07:16:26 PM
If it's completely random, then you should live 50% of the time.
There were three things I didn't like about Pokemon Snap: the fact that you couldn't see all 150 pokemon in the entire game; Bulbasaur was too big; and only for like a month after its release could you print out those little stickers of your photographs.
