Yeah!  Before 3D!

I know that 3D games do have there fun points, and one could possibly (on a long shot) consider them "revolutionary," but they're just not the same.  No 3D platform game can hold the same fun and challange as the 2D type (all the "golden age" games.)

With a true game you run through it, finish all the levels, get a "perfect" or such, and think "Wow!  That was a fun game!  I can't wait to go through it again!"

With most 3D platforms, however, it's more like "Wow.  That was fun...  I wonder when the sequel's coming out?"

Think about it:  if game developers were to move away from the whole "3D is better" mindset just for a moment, they would be able to see what else could be done.  Instead of investing time and proccessing power on fancy textures and millions of polygons, new games could be 2-dimensional (in classic style, maybe enhanced to a limit) with maybe some nice effects.  But much bigger.

I'm sure I can find many gamers who think that many of these new games just didn't last very long.  Not only the actual run-through, but especially in replay value.  If the space used for the 3D world was instead used to make more of a 2D style game, it could be huge!

That's all I have to say right now, but take your favorite classic game, make it much longer, and think about it...

Nice picture, Kat.  'Tis very well-done.
Anyway, I believe I know what you're talking about.  The place with the murky waters leads to Pinnacle rock.  You can get through without a fish, but it's rather difficult.  The fisherman'll give you such a fish in return for a picture of one of the pirates (has to show her face).
Getting into the pirate fortress... there are four wooden doors with a skull and crossbones on them on a wall at the bottom of the ocean near the fortress.  You can break through by swimming into them, one will hide the enterance.

A few last random words of wisdom - don't ever try to kill a real bomb-chu with a hookshot.  It dosen't work like one would expect.

'Tis a grand game indeed, truly worthy of the Zelda title (and they brought back the original overworld tune!  Yay!)
Kat: I'm certain I can help your perdicament; where are you having trouble?  Getting into the Gerudo (pirate) fortress?  Evading the gaurds?  Getting to Pinnacle rock?  Finding the eggs in either of those two places (all seven are divided between them)?
And don't worry, the next temple upholds its share of confusing puzzles quite nicely.  It helps to go in with plenty of time, so as not to have search for the boss's room with fewer than five hours left (I know from experience that it's hard to concentrate like that)

Mario Chat / Re: Anyone good at making Mario MIDIs?

I know they've got one ghost house MIDI that was submitted after I posted this request and had already finished my version.  It's good (in that it's "spooky"), but very inaccurate.

Still, that'll only record it in the form of a sound file, which would be rather large and not of the best quality.  I'm looking specifically for a MIDI, but it's rather moot now.  I got tired of waiting and made my own.

Ooh!  Ooh!
Getting all of the stars in the clock level of Super Mario 64 with the clock completely stopped for each one.
I know random motion would've been harder for some stars, but it doesn't beat trying to reach the very top without any moving platforms.

Video Game Chat / A little game what I've been making...
« on: September 20, 2005, 05:15:41 PM »
'Hoy!

I thought I'd share this little game I've been working on for a while now.  I've mentioned it in #tmk a couple of times, but I don't think anybody here has actually played it.

http://www.geocities.com/f1fth/download/nothing.zip

(You'll need Windows to play it.)

It's a retro-style 2D-platformer/adventure game where the main character is a quadruped.  What's here is the first area.  It's not fully completed, but what's here is fully playable.  Just know that when you get to a dark, cloudy area, you've reached the end of the world.

I guess that's it.  Let me know if you have any questions/complaints and such.

'Hoy!

My friend and I have been working on a small puzzle game for school purposes, and have just gotten it to a 'beta' mode for testing purposes.

So, here I am, posting it, hoping that I can get someone to try it out.  You'll need a Windows operating system to play it, and a computer faster than mine (which isn't hard) to play it well.

Download

I basically want to know:

-If it runs

-If anybody can figure out how to play it with what's there

-If it's at all fun

-If it's possible to lose in the 1-player survival mode

-Is the 2-player vs mode is any fun

-If the attack patterns are any good (and which are favorites)

...and whatever else I should know.

So go!  Try it!

General Chat / Anagrams
« on: May 10, 2004, 07:17:15 PM »
An anagram is when you rearrange the letters of something (i.e. a word, a phrase, a name,) to some up with something else.  Oftentimes, the results are humorous, or even insightful (heh).

So, this thread is for posting amusing anagrams.  I'd suggest going here to make things easier.

Here are a few amusing ones I found for "Shigeru Miyamoto":

"I'm so the Mario guy!"

"Go!  Immature Yoshi!"

So... any interesting finds?

Mario Chat / "Throwing Balloons" ...dot ccn
« on: April 28, 2003, 09:03:05 PM »
Yay!  I just finished a re-creation of the "Throwing Ballons" mini-game from Yosih's Island!

It's a Vitalize! file, so you'll need to have the plug-in installed on your 'puter.
Don't worry about downloading it, it's a perfectly safe (in that it can't effect your computer or your hard drive) PC plug-in that works in most browsers.  And it's not commonplace, so you won't have to worry about companies using it for annoying ads!

*shoots a nasty glance at Flash*

So... to whoever's brave enough to download this thing... tell me if it works.
