Game Help / Smash Bros Brawl
« on: March 27, 2008, 10:23:36 AM »
How do you start a match as Sheik instead of Zelda? Is there a way to change which Pokemon you start off with? What about Samus, any way to start as Zero Suit?

Edit: I forgot to mention that I am using the Gamecube Controller to play.

General Chat / The Gameboy DS?
« on: March 17, 2008, 08:15:37 PM »
So, what has recently come to the fore is a question of classification.

The newest Nintendo handheld system is officially named the Nintendo DS.  My sister calls it the GameBoy DS.  We have since come into an argument where both sides have pretty sufficient evidence.  We are at an impasse and need help deciding once and for all what the name of the system is.

This is meant to be lighthearted fun, but still... we want an answer.  Let's see what we can come up with, alright?

Video Game Chat / My New Friend Codes
« on: February 29, 2008, 07:09:53 PM »
I finally caved and bought a DS Lite (after trading in the old DS and a game), and now I have to update my Friend Code. The following games should be updated if you have me listed. I would post in the indvidual topics for each game, but most of them would give me that warning about not being active for 120 days..

Mario Kart DS

292 186
509 599

Animal Crossing

0173-0860-3187

Mario Vs DK 2

2578
2677
2004

Tetris DS

135 447
411 425

.. and there we go. I don't think I'm quiet ready to connect Pokemon Pearl to the Wifi. I haven't even finished the game yet. I probably won't go online with that one until after I beat it (the elite 4 and the friend).

Game Help / Pokemon Diamond/Pearl
« on: February 25, 2008, 06:59:28 PM »
So, my fiancee and I recently bought both the games for the DS, and then subsequentially got the full Pokedex strategy guide.

My question is, in order to completely fill out the Pokedex in Diamond/Pearl, do you have to have the GBA games? We don't own a single one, and I really don't want to have run out and get six games for a few monsters I may just stuff into the PC and never use..

Forum Games / Create a Mario Character
« on: February 21, 2008, 06:16:11 PM »
Spawned from endless discussions with various friends and family, you come up with a name and a short description for a Mario character that you created (unless the name says it all, of course).

Please note: I know some of these came from that short round of random Shyguy names in the chatroom. I am not stealing your ideas by any means..

Die Guy: Shyguys with a gambling problem.

Dry Guy: Either a really thirsty Shyguy, or a dead one (the undead Shy Guy!)

Buy Guy: similar to the Coyote in the Warner Bros cartoons, Buy Guy keeps using the best equipment money can buy in order to stop the Mario crew.

FYI Guy: a very informed Shy Guy

Lie Guy: tells a lot of lies

Psy Guy: Shy Guy with psychic powers

Nye Guy: knows a lot about science! XD

.. and that's it for now.

The characters you make don't have to be limited to Shy Guys. I've had alot of these ideas for years, just never had a way to tell people about them.. until now. Ciao! :)

Video Game Chat / Zelda Chronology *Zelda spoilers likely*
« on: February 01, 2008, 12:37:16 PM »
I recently started a new file in Ocarina of Time, and it got me to thinking about the Zelda chronology. Are the games in 'release order' (like the Mario series, more or less) or does one game come before the others (Yoshi's IsIand is obviously the first in the Mario series..)

Also, I am having trouble understanding why people think there are multiple timelines in the Zelda series. OoT and MM seem to be where the timeline 'splits', but I have been thinking and this cannot be the case because after the events of OoT, Zelda sends us back in time to before we collected the three Spiritual Stones, yes?

After collecting the three Stones and returning to Hyrule Castle Town, maybe the same thing happens: Zelda and Impa run off on their white horse, and Ganondorf fails to catch them at that time. He sees Link.. aw, you know what happens. Anyway, maybe upon retrieveing the Ocarina from the moat, Link could get a different telepathic message, and thus the events of MM play out.

He left Hyrule, and so the Triforce of Courage leaves him. Ganondorf takes over Hyrule because there is not a hero that comes and stops him. And that is what leads us into the next game, which ever that may be (Wind Waker? Twilight Princess?)

There are several games that I have not played, so if I've left something out or misunderstood something, let me know. Also, what is your take on the Zelda chronology?

General Chat / The First Post Topic
« on: January 28, 2008, 06:04:02 PM »
Here in this topic, you link to your first post and possibly talk about what your first post was about (if you recall why/what it was about).

Here is mine, I think..

I think it's ok that he's limited in the 3D games. It's more of a throw back to his earlier adventures.

It was in a topic about if people like how limited Mario is in his moves (punches/kicks) in the 3D games versus all the moves he could do in the 2D games (fly, throw fireballs, pluck enemies from the ground and hurl them at other enemies..)

General Chat / Toad's 1,000th Post Contest
« on: January 12, 2008, 09:58:37 AM »
Seeing as this is my last post with double digits, I thought I would do something unique. Yes, I know other users have had giveaways when their posts hit a milestone number, but I have nothing to give away, so that wouldn't work.

Instead, we are going to have a little contest where everybody who enters can contribute, and everybody wins.

I want everyone to create a piece of fanart involving Toad (if you want to, of course). Your piece of art can be made out of any medium, the only thing is Toad has to be the main (or in the main) subject.

It's going to be a long time before my post number hits another such milestone, so enjoy and have fun with it!

EDIT: Whoops! Realised after posting that this is my 1,000th post.

Mario Chat / Bad Guards
« on: November 05, 2007, 12:16:12 PM »
I've seen people complaining about how stupid or bad the Princess's guards seem to be, but has anybody noticed that Bowser's troops are just as bad?

The first Paper Mario game is a fine example: there were guards all over the place, but she still continuously got out of her room. I know her castle was up in the sky and all, but Bowser's guards seem to be just as dense as Peach's.

Just a random thought that I've had and wanted to share.

General Chat / Mario Keychain!
« on: October 21, 2007, 01:10:23 PM »
I was at Hastings the other night, looking for a keychain that someone at work told me I would like (he's a gamer too). I went and found said keychain, and bought it.

I forget what the proper name of the keychain is, but there are six buttons on it, and each one makes a sound/music from the 1985 game (ie: Super Mario Brothers).

Here's a picture of the back of the packaging. I would show you the front, but I ripped apart Bowser and Toad trying to get the plastic off the front (the front and back look more-or-less the same, anyway)..

Fan Creations / My Game Box
« on: October 08, 2007, 08:31:15 PM »
I am in the process of creating a game box for a ficitonal game (as of right now, it's only a dream), and thought that since it was my first Photoshop (with some help from Illustrator) I would post it and see what people thought about it.

Prepare to be unimpressed!..

The White Mushroom House / Looking for Playstation 2 Power Cord
« on: October 04, 2007, 09:16:59 PM »
I am looking for a power cord fot the Playstation 2. Not the AV cables that plug into the tv (red, yellow, white), but the one cord that gives the system power (the one that plugs into the wall, I think).

My fiancee's mom's dog chewed through the one cord that they had, and now are looking for a replacement.

Do we have to buy a whole new system to get that one cord, or do the cords come seperatley?

.. that sounds a little funny to ask, I know, but I am not as technologically advanced as I should be.

Site Discussion / Fan Art!
« on: September 12, 2007, 09:57:52 PM »
About the fan art section: What happened to it?

I've searched all over the main site and it seems to have disappeared. I would have liked to use it as a topic of interest in one of my classes, but I can't use what I can't find..

Is it still here and I'm just not looking hard enough?

Game Help / Itadaki Street DS
« on: September 07, 2007, 10:59:06 PM »
If I were to import this game, would it work in my DS?

Do Japanese DS games work in American DS's?

It's not a DS Lite and will I need any special mods or anything?

Game Help / Halo (for the PC)
« on: September 01, 2007, 03:32:05 PM »
Shocking, is it? One of the biggest non-Mario games has found it's way onto TMK's Help board. (ok, so maybe it's not all that shocking..) XD

Anyway, question!..

I got this game recently, with a controller that plugs into the USB ports on my computer. The controller is kind of a blue-ish transparent color (like those old N64's that were blue) and it says AxisPad on the top of it.

Now, I don't play a whole lot of computer games, so I'm sorry if this seems a little n00bish, but how do I get my controller to work with the game?

I plug it in and wait a few seconds for my pc to recognize that it has something new plugged in, then I go into the game and try to use the controller to move around, but it seems to not be responding.

Is there something I need to change in the controller setup in the in-game options?
