Yeah yeah yeah, it's a Mario forums and the only thread I've ever seen on 360 games hasn't been around since 2006.
But come on, everyone likes TF2. Anyone else play it on 360? I'm always on the lookout for teamsters.

My computer is far too out of date to even start the game, and I no longer have a 360.

I don't play it, but I do that know a few people here (such as TEM and Captain Jim) do play. As with other online games, it's best to look in #tmk for other players.

Most of the people here who play it do so on PC. I have it (bought the Orange Box back at the beginning of the year), but due to my accursed satellite Internet connection, I can't play it often (read: I've been able to play with minimal lag exactly once, and haven't really bothered to try again since).

Most likely doesn't run with Macs, hardly ever use my PC laptop, and I don't plan on getting an X-Box360. I'd like to try TF2, but I'm thinking I'll pass.

Anyone that knows anything knows that FPS games are better on consoles because of the better graphics, that's why I play TF2 on the Xbox 360.

The only FPS's I've played on console are Metroid Prime 1 and 2, and Halo 3. I'm not really an FPS gamer, though. I like the Metroid Prime games because it's Metroid, and they're really more in the Adventure category than they are Shmup.
I did an online battle in Halo 3 on my friend's X-Box360. My opponents killed each other before I could even find them. XD

My current CT and signature are both tributes to my main class: the Medic. (reference: Übermensch and "Come over here! I promise I will heal you!")
Unfortunately, with all the nonsense that goes on at college, I haven't had much time for anything, never mind TF2. I do find enough time to work on my TF2 map at work, though. It's a 3-stage attack/defend on an oil-platform-type-thing and is 63% done.

I have yet to play TF2, and doubt I ever will. I'm not antisocial, but I suck at teamwork in multiplayer games.

However, the second stage has less water interactivity, and the third is way up high.

I respectfully disagree. Personally, I hate FPS's on any system other than the Wii and PC. I've never understood how people can enjoy using a joystick to move a gun around, as it feels awkward and unnatural compared to using the Wii stylus or a computer mouse. Besides, you're posting on a Mario forum, and anyone who is a big fan of mario knows that graphics don't make the game - gameplay does.

I disrespectfully disagree. Any really good PC can blow the 360's graphics out of the water, and you've never played a real FPS until you've played it with a keyboard/mouse. Aiming with an analog stick is like driving with a D-pad; it's just not good enough.

No, seriously, I don't think you can pit a single player FPS against a team-based FPS and come up with a concrete verdict. In fact, some of the only things similar between them is that they're in first person, and you shoot/use various kinds of tools and weapons. That's not a whole lot.
In conclusion, this thread is about people who play TF2 and the game itself, not other FPSs.

As far as First Person on rail shooters go, Ghost Squad is great fun. Also Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles is good while having less goofiness, more game depth, and a lot more stages which are also much longer.

Let's have a belated discussion on the Spy/Sniper Update.
I. Love. Jarate.
Definitely the most useful weapon swap out I've personally gotten since they introduced new weapons. I've changed my Steam name in reflection of this feeling. Hitting someone with Jarate just makes me feel so good on the inside that sometimes I don't know if I can take it. But that's not all; Jarate is useful in a practical sense as well. Putting out flaming teammates or even fires afflicting your own person is awesome, plus the mini crits are a great way to provide support for your teammates in battle on top of shooting the enemies from 20 yards away.
The Spy updates are pretty cool too, offering 2 new variations on the cloak watch. I personally like the Cloak and Dagger (Edit: Actually I'm using the Dead Ringer!) a lot.
Now a few negative criticisms. The Razorback doesn't seem to be very useful. I don't have it myself. But the only time I've encountered it on the field I back stabbed the Sniper to see what would happen. The Razorback broke, the Sniper survived, but I didn't notice getting damaged or a cool down time on my knife. I was easily able to stab him in the back almost immediately after destroying the Razorback. Hopefully this gets fixed.
I also think they really should have implemented the trading system when they started the random unlock system for the weapons. I've got 5 Sandviches at the moment and no idea what to do with them. Also I've noticed that low latency servers are still very laggy for me occasionally. I think this is because spectators are clogging up the works, waiting to unlock stuff by leaving the game on for days.

So, hold up, you can just unlock stuff by leaving the game running? I assumed it was by actually doing stuff, sincle I got my Axestinguisher at around 1:05:00 of Pyro playtime.

Yeah, they've changed it twice so far with the new update, since the first change was really buggy and this one seems to work better. As a result, once trading is implemented, I'll probably have every item pretty quickly.

I think the new unlock system sucks.
The only new spy/sniper weapon I have (due to the sucky unlock system) is the Ambassador, which sucks.

I've cranked out quite a few screen shots (http://tem.kontek.net/Game%20Captures/TF2/) since the Spy/Sniper update. My latest batch shows my first Huntsman kill that resulted in a pin (http://tem.kontek.net/Game%20Captures/TF2/5-30-09/pl_badwater0000%20(Righto).png) (I was Jarated so the shot is a little strange looking).
Also: My favorite hat is the Heavy football helmet. I fear that when I see it in battle I will be paralyzed with laughter and unable to fight.

Update from my last post: The Ambassador doesn't suck so much anymore now that headshot crits are full crits, not mini-crits. They fixed that in an update shortly after my post.

Just unlocked all of the new weapons. Love Jarate and Huntsman, Razorback is trash to me. With spy, I currently run Ambassador and Dead Ringer and I love it. Hoping to find me some hats.

I think the Huntsman would be much more useful to my style of play if I had Jarate, and if my aim wasn't crap. I don't own a Razorback, but I agree on its uselessness; as a Spy, I'd just go up and side-stab the mofo. Even the knife cooldown wasn't as much of a penalty as you'd think, though the angry-ass sniper about to retaliate usually is.
Speaking of spying, I don't have the Ambassador yet but I want one, and I've been getting good use out of both new watches.

I found no real correlation between Huntsman and Jarate. As a matter of fact, it's almost better to have a Huntsman-Machine Gun combination, because that way it's easier to take down a rushing midrange opponent if your arrow misses.
Which brings me to my main point about the Huntsman, one TEM initially made and I agree with: most people use it wrong. It's not fun when you're trying to snipe with it because the sniper rifle blows it out of the water at long range. It's clearly a midrange weapon. Too close for the sniper rifle but not close enough for quick Machine Gun or Kukri kills.
About aim being crap: yeah, it took me a little while to learn, too, but getting kills is just so awesome, especially when you stick people to the wall. Eventually you learn how far to lead running opponents and how far above the head to aim to account for the slight downward curve.
Razorback sucks so hard. I finally equipped mine after being repeatedly pwned by the 5 or 6 spies on the other team. My first life with the Razorback, I noticed you run a lot slower. Then I got backstabbed. I didn't even feel the thing break or whatever. I instantly re-equipped my jarate.
I have the Ambassador equipped, really only because I can. And for the achievement where you kill like 50 people with it.
I don't have the Dead Ringer yet, but I've been raped hard by "dead" spies enough to know it's useful. Eventually I learned to whip out my machete and look around frantically when I hear that uncloak sound.
Cloak and Dagger is pretty good I guess, but you can't move as far on the initial cloak and it doesn't respawn fast enough for my liking.

Yeah, Dead Ringer is an awesome thing. As for Razorback Snipers, I just pop a bullet from the Scout's mama into their brain and get outta there.
My favorite things ever has to be a Jarate/Pyro raid. Not only do they take mini-crits from the initial flame, they take mini-crit damage from the afterburn. Throwin' a Jarate on a crowded control point and lettin' a Pyro rush in...glorious.

I agree; nothing is more beautiful as a Pyro than having one of your Sniper homies throw a jar of hot Sniper-juice onto a baddie.
And I'm trusting Valve will do something to make the Razorback more useful, say, giving it more uses, or making it actually work more than 20% of the time.

I haven't used the Razorback myself, but if it doesn't let you know it's broken when a Spy tries to backstab you than it sounds kind of not worth wielding.

So I just unlocked Jarate, and I'm fairly good with it (I'm glad there's a splash effect; I'd never be able to get a direct hit). Of course, the underlying problem is that I suck balls as a Sniper and probably always will (the only kills I've ever gotten were with the Kukri knife), so yeah.
Also, while this in unrelated, I've noticed I have never ever used either of my axes as a Pyro except when goofing around before a match.

BarbeQueQ has to be the most satisfying Pyro achievement out there. Forcing someone to ragequit should be an achievement for every game.

I am finally getting Team Fortress 2 for the PC today.
A friend of mine has already unlocked a bunch of stuff without even doing anything and he bought it yesterday. I just wanna get my hands on the backburner.

The backburner's not all it's cracked up to be. The BB's definition of "back" covers far less area than the Spy's backstab radius (you have to be pretty much square behind the enemy), and the lack of compression blast means no punting back projectiles/enemies or putting out fires on teammates for you. I was psyched when I earned it, got disappointed, and switched back to the vanilla flamer the next day.

I recently started playing Sniper with the sniper rifle and it's like the fun of first playing with the Huntsman. I've come full Sniper circle.

So far, I've only unlocked the Ambassador. It's a nice weapon, but I still want the backburner. I'll start earning achievements for the pyro a little later.
EDIT: I now have the cloak/dagger and the dead ringer. They're just plain sweet.

I got the backburner! It's really cool, but the flamethrower is much easier to use. Chances are I'm gonna get killed a lot while training with my new weapon.
On a side note, the flare gun is hilariously helpful.

I am a beast with the flare gun but lately I've been going old school and using the shottie.
Also, as a side note: Spamming suggestions for new Sniper unlockables (jars of earwax, jizz, toenails, poop, tears, etc.) is so much fun.
EDIT: Quite an odd series of events here. I hadn't played Spy in ages and thought I might as well, so I got on an Arena server and started getting brutalized. I decided that I should use my Dead Ringer, so on my next "death", my "killer" decided it'd be cool to taunt over my "corpse". I go up behind him, de-cloak, and backstab the mofo. To show my superiority, I taunted over his corpse. However, just before I finished my taunt, a Sniper came up and Kukri'd me to death, and I got a nice shot of the Sniper solemnly removing his hat on my killcam.

Today I had my first legitimately good game. The Backburner was practically made for my playing style and I managed to dominate a good portion of my opponent's team with it.
The PC version is vastly superior to the crappy 360 version. It is worth every penny I spent on it.

Obviously the PC version is better, but the 360 version is not a "crappy" game. It's just the original pure TF2 with gamepad control. That is by no means a "crappy" game.

A disagree. A world without bows and arrows, jars of ****, afros, weaponized flare guns, and tribal shields with car batteries duct-taped to them is a pretty crappy one.

Hey, when I got the Orange Box, I never even intended to play TF2. Once Portal and the HL2 episodes ran out of fun juice, I decided I might as well try and get TF2 running. By then (during the Sniper Update), I was getting my ass handed to me by HP-draining syringe guns and double-barreled sawed-offs.

They're totally random, totally rare, totally useless, and yet still manage to conjure up feelings of bitterness and malice in people who see others unlock them. I've lost count of the times I've heard people complain that they diserved X hat more than X guy, that X guy shouldn't have it since he's not the awesome Team Fortress Gangsta that they are.

I've heard of people getting duplicate items that have "levels" differing from the standard number, although they do not affect the stats of the weapon at all. I have yet to have this happen to me, though.
In related news, I want Valve to implement that trading system now.

I've stopped playing as the pyro...he's too easy to play as. I've switched to playing as the heavy and the engineer.

Seems like everyone is on Team Soldier. Furthermore, Team Demoman is invested with clueless players who don't know what they're doing with one of the game's more complex classes.

Question: If I prefer console gaming, don't really care for online gaming/don't have constant access to [whatever the name is for the kind of internet setup you can reasonably go online with a console with, because I honestly have just been throwing around the word "broadband" without having any idea what its exact definition is], have barely played any FPSs, and know nothing about the Half-Life or Team Fortress series, is the Orange Box still worth it? Either way, I just want to play Portal someday, but I'm not ready to, er, commit to Steam at this point.

I played TF2 for the first time in a while yesterday. Everyone was either a Soldier with a Direct Hit or a Demoman with an Eyelander. I was a Pyro. Someone suggested I leave since no one plays Pyro anymore.

Also, yeah, the Eyelander is cool on paper but massively rather overpowered. I'm tired of spewing flames of hatred down on a Demo's head for about five minutes while the dude swings his sword at me and keeps missing. All it does it make him take an extra ten seconds to kill and **** me off rather massively when he manages to get a lucky hit in.
Although I love the Equalizer; not because I own one, because I don't, but because noob Soldiers think that rushing in with pickaxes blazing will work after the fifteenth time they die doing it. I managed to get chased by one all the way to my own base in Doublecross (my favorite new map, BTW) before he got cut down by a sentry.

He may not have killed you, but he did chase you back to your own base. I love the Equalizer, and I'm not so sure about the Demoman with the Chargin' Targe and Eyelander being overpowered anymore. I think it's because everyone is still in WAR mode and wants to play Soldiers vs. Demo, but with that shield the Demoman becomes a soldier's nightmare. However, the Demoman has no boosted defense against good old-fashioned bullets, and when using a Heavy (not to mention a Heavy with a Medic) the HP-deficient Eyelander Demo is deadmeat.

As Heavy I kill 90% of Chargin' Targe Demos before they get to me. My main problem is that a lot of Demos aren't using their bombs anymore.

Since 90% of the enemies I face as a Pyro are flame-resistant Demos, I've decided to switch to my other standby, the Spy. I got five backstabs in one life, all of them Demomen.
I feel really good right now.

I find that the best way to go about that is for a more knowledgeable friend to train you in an empty server.

Protip: To kill enemies, shoot at them until they die. Or at least hit their weak points for MASSIVE DAMAGE.

Every class is very specialized, kinda, mostly, so at first it'll feel like you're not doing ery well. But keep playing and, uh, you'll suck less. Sounds obvious, but it's very true.
Also, hats do nothing and are worthless.

I just got two caps in one life as a Heavy on Double Cross. I took out sentries both times without a Medic. When I ran home with the second intel cap my team was cheering me on. The second cap won the game. Feels good. (I killed quite a few people in the process)

Go to this server. Join red team. Capture points at all costs. If someone tells you not to capture a point do it anyway whie shouting "GO RED!" If someone tries to voteban you, leave, Shift+Tab and change your player name, and re-join, pretending to be a different person.

I just got my second hat ever!!!!!!!! It took me like 150 item drops to craft the necessary metals, but I got it! And what do I get?
...A ****ing Soldier's Stash. That's right. A barely-different-from-the-normal-hat hat for a class I already have a better hat for (Killer's Kabuto). Why does God hate me? What have I done to deserve this, aside from hours of endless grinding and the occasional idling session? This is like saving up for years to retire but somehow retirement ends up being roughly 1% less [dukar]ty than not being retired.

Depends. My brother and I use the same profile and he may not want to give them up. I have the Brigade Helm for the Pyro and Ze Goggles for the Medic.

My favorite part is the dude who types "HACKER" after like a minute.
The dude talking is also a good glimpse of the post-emotion internetfutureman. "this-is-awesome." "this-is-so-epic."

What I like about the new update:
New Engie weapons are cool and unique, if a little on the overpowering side. From what I've seen, an Engie with the new shotgun and the Wrangler who knows what he's doing can utterly rape an opposing team with only a little backup, compared to a vanilla Engie. Of course, there's ways around this obstacle but Valve seemed to go a little overboard with Offense-izing the Engie; he can hold his own against an class with the Wrangler (Scouts are harder to hit, from what I've seen, but now Snipers are easily neutralized and that's a big advantage).
The mini-sentry is adorable, but I play defensive Engie mostly so I'm not going to have a whole lot of use for the Gunslinger. I might just go all guerilla with it though, because it's such a cool-looking weapon. I only have three beefs with it: It's impossible to pull off the three-punch crit combo (not that you'll ever really use it), I wish you could quickly deploy minisentries with M2 instead of the build menu to better suit its fast-paced ambush purposes, and minisentries are really only good for general harassment instead of any real damage. This means that combining it with the Frontier Justice is less of a no-brainer than you'd think; you're unlikely to get any real kills with the little guy.
I love love lurve Payload, and especially Payload Race, so the new maps are a very strong point for me. Thunder Mountain is a ginormous, long, over-the-top theme park ride of a map for both teams, although prepare for a total [dukar]storm if you're playing Blue Team; you will not win, at all, against the onslaught of Engineers you're sure to face in time to make it through all the twists and turns. Also, the NPCs are kind of a weird addition ("Why doesn't the Sniper shoot anyone instead of standing there looking majestic" did indeed cross my mind).
What I don't like about the new update:
The Gunslinger taunt is, I'm sorry to say, really dumb and dorky. Engineer looks like a tool using it (no pun intended), and it doesn't look good on the killcam. Besides, two killtaunts? What the duck, Jerry?
If I were Valve I would fire whoever the hell decided to make the Gunboats even more useless (now I'm going to not use them even more!). Same with the Sandvich; it was the only item in the game that was truly perfected balanced without being a straight stats-tradeoff, and now Valve had to go and add a 30 second delay. I could settle for maybe a 10 second delay, but 30 seconds?
Where the hell is the new Meet the Team? Part of me has hope that we'll see it in an uncoming Day 4, but most of me thinks Valve is simply switching to easier-to-produce-but-not-nearly-as-cool web browser comics from now on.

By far my favorite part of the update is the Engie's new ability to move already built stuff.
And now a Super Cool Story:
Just played a game on the new Payload race map, it was awesome. For the first few minutes it was Engie Fortress 2, nothing new, got some achievements with the other 5 Engineers on the incline before the final victory elevator. I then realized that our team's cart was ON the final victory elevator, so I said, "We should all just go Heavy/Medic and cap that." One guy sarcastically said, "No that would make too much sense." I then said, "I'm going medic," followed by "HELP ME BROTHERS." Everyone was like YES and we had a small army of Heavy/Medic, with a few soldiers helping out too. The Spies, Snipers, and Sentries held us at bay for a minute, but me and a Heavy finally got to the bomb. We rose about halfway up before the Heavy beefed it, I wasn't receiving much fire, ducking on the side of the bomb opposite of their respawn.
Out of nowhere an ubered Engineer and Medic dropped down on the bomb! The Engineer apparently didn't know what was going on and I pushed him off the edge, the Medic stood on the bomb with his uber dying and I hit him with the Ubersaw, critting him off of the rising platform. I watched as my team marched up towards the rising bomb, covering me with fire, painting me with a zone of bullet-strewn safety. They were cheering me on, a lone, hurt, Medic on the cap, and I shed a single man-tear.
Suddenly, an explosion rocked me and sent my lifeless body to the sky. It was the bomb; it had detonated and I was given a victory suicide. My corpse flew towards the sun, forever encased in glory.

The other day I got like five achievements at once after I moved a sentry that killed a dude and then finished off another dude with my vanilla shotty. When I taunted him with my wrench, I got the one for doing the guitar taunt (???)

Since I saw only you and Satellite Internet posting I gave up on the endeavor and did something else. Forsooth, alas, and [darn]ation; I will never have that achievement.

And yes, PL, Engineer has some of the dopest hats. I'll have to say Engineer, Pyro and Soldier have the best hats, followed by Demoman, Heavy, Medic, and Spy, followed by Scout and Sniper, who both have some lame-ass excuses for hats (by TF2's standards).

I agree wholeheartedly. The Sniper has TERRIBLE hats. The Shooter's Sola Topi is the only good one.

It would be if every single person ever didn't get one thanks to a bug back when it came out. I'm lucky enough to have gotten cool hats for classes I actually play.

I've recently been playing Spy a lot after crafting Eternal Reward and L'etranger. Eternal Reward was hard to use at first, but once I got patient enough to use it in conjunction with the Cloak & Dagger its benefits show, I just MVP'd a cart map on defense. All I need is that stupid hat and I'll get the set bonus. (anyone have a Familiar Fez they don't want? I have an Age Mustache Gray paint can...
