News: Shigsy Talks Mario 128 And Zelda

Posted by Tphi - Sep 4th 2005 01:21

Gaming
legend Shigeru Miyamoto speaks very interesting things on Japanese
radio about Mario 128 and Twilight Princess, plus also hints
mysteriously about Zelda Revolution...

Why wait so long to release a new installment of Mario? The wait is frustrating players everywhere...

Mario is and always has been a concept title
from his birth. We are always looking for new ways of playing with him,
manipulating him, to create something new and unique. We're in the
midst of preparing something special for his future, something never
before seen. You'll understand when you see it that we can't quite
release it right away. The new Mario game will surprise many people.
Give us the benefit of the doubt. I think we'll present you with a new
way to have fun. There's even a new character by his side.

Mario 128 will be released for Revolution then?

Yes, of course! It's no surprise, but of course
we will rename it, obviously. That won't be the only surprise of next
year though. We based the Revolution around this new type of game.
Mario 128 played a large role in the Revolution's conception, much like
Mario 64 in it's time. But we won't just be focusing on Mario. We're
working on some very impressive games which push interactivity to the
max. Games of a new era.

The new Zelda, it's not really good news that...

Please allow me to interrupt you by saying that you will have to be patient, really. This will be, without a doubt, the last Zelda game as you know it in its present form. I worked on it personally, moreso than Wind Waker!
I haven't invested as much into any game as I have this one. Our goal
was to make the best Zelda game ever. The most rich/satisfying and
melancholy. We've really improved it in just a few months. Everything's
coming together much quicker. We may have some last minute ideas...

You're going to move it to Revolution?

No, it is a Gamecube title.

In any case, you want to preserve the air of mystery around Nintendo?

We will be revealing many details soon. It's
true, we do like surprises (laughs). While our gamers are sleeping,
we're busy thinking up new ideas. But while they're playing - we're
playing as well.

So what is this special "never before seen" thing in
Mario 128? And who's the new character by his side? How will Twilight
Princess be the last Zelda game as we know it? Has this game really
seen more of Miyamoto's magic than any other? Nintendo's air of mystery
continues, though for how much longer until all is revealed..?

I sure hope Super Mario 128 isn't all that it's cracked up to be.  You know, because I wont get it.  At least the new Zelda is for the Gamecube, even though I've never played a zelda game.

Wow!  Sounds awesome!  But...the last Zelda game??  That's kinda sad, isn't it?  Man, my curiousity is simply...bouncing(?)
Maybe there is more to me than there is to me...

Maybe they wanted Mario 128 to be an online game in some way? Not much point in messing with the GCN if that's true.

It may also deal with the controller.

I don't know who this "Shigsy" fellow is, but he could be wise and talk through a translator like Steve Hawking instead of through two unreleased Nintendo games.

Wow, and Sapph's sister says Lizard Dude's pathetic attempts at humore are fleeting...

"Shigsy" is Shigeru Miyamoto, but I don't have a clue who "Sapph's sister" is.

Sapph's sister is Emeralda. She once said that my pathetic attempts at humor were fleeting. Though the sentence doesn't even make sense, it still made my sig for a while.

The "Partners In Time" section looks suspiciously like the letters used for "The Twilight Zone."

You unlock this door with the key of imagination. Beyond it is another dimension - a dimension of sound, a dimension of sight, a dimension of mind. You're moving into a land of both shadow and substance, of things and ideas. You've just crossed over into the Mushroom Kingdom.

This isn't exactly related to the topic but, I have a friend who said that he went to a gaming website and actually saw a video of the Revolution hardware.  He said there was a helmet and other equipment that you wear to control the characters.  That kind of sounds right with the gyroscope rumor but could that really be true?  I hope that won't be the main control system if it is.

I sure hope that this new partner doesn't replace Luigi because I am incredibly sick of his absence.  If they do it again... I'm forming a mob, and you're all invited!

I wonder what the new Zelda series will be like?  I'm sure that Miyamoto knows what he's doing though.

By the way, CCMnI, your signature sounds kind of offensive.  What does it mean?

And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

I don't mean it offensively.  I was looking through the old "Mr. Face" thread.  While looking around, LD asked why people kept bumping the thread, and Screech responded with "Rhetorical...must...not answer...
Because it's the stupid, pointless thing to do!".  Lizard Dude responded by saying that was the Motto of the Fungi Forums.   I thought it funny, and now it is my sig.

Also, the Revolution video is just a really well made joke.  This is probably what he was talking about.

Sorry Yoshisaurus Rex, the "Partners in Time" are Baby Mario, and Baby Luigi. But that's not so bad is it?
