Title: 10-coin Block & Ceiling Run Not Planned

I was in a bookstore today browsing through Game Over and read the Miyamoto interview. In it he mentioned that the 10-coin blocks and running on the ceiling of underworld levels were initially programming errors that they liked and decided to make intentional.

I find it interesting how the 10-coin blocks are always timed, so they actually aren't "10-coin"... I've had as many as 12 come out, and as few as 2.

Right, of course, but at standard height and max jumping speed they give out ten.

I've never made Mario run on the ceiling before.

Time slowed and Reality bent.

Ohhh duh.
I thought they meant running upside down under the ceiling.
I've done the running rightside up over the ceiling thing many a time.
I had suspected that it was a glitch that Nintendo caught and turned into a stage warp before, but my suspicions were never substaniated.

Time slowed and Reality bent.
But on and on the Eggman went.

Yeah, I only ran up the ceiling from the wall that one time when I was cornered in an alley and had to fight that really big... uh, I mean... um... BYE! *runs away*

I checked out that book a few times from the library before.

I checked it out, read it, don't remember that part. Back to the library for me.

I thought Nintendo called them 10-Coin Blocks because one would get, on average, 10 coins from the block if you don't screw around.

Yes, see my second post. At the normal height of them (for example, the initial one in 1-2) and fastest jumping speed (i.e., "not messing around"), they give ten.

Yeah I read that book too. Pretty good. I'd buy it if I saw it.

Oh, has anyone seen that other book, "High-Score: A History of Electronic Gaming"? That one is also very good.
