20 years have passed since this message board came into being.

I mean, technically, that's kind of cool. Who'd of thunk it, right? That this board still exists? But also...20 years. [darn].

Fan Creations / I self published a comic book on Amazon!
« on: November 25, 2015, 02:56:23 PM »
The title is "The Catty Tales of Mr. Weaver" and it's an absurdist drama about a secret society of cats. They have this ancient prophecy that states a human will lead them on a revolution -- but it points towards this dorky computer teacher with dubious credentials. There's a regular edition and a deluxe edition that comes with bonus content. And by the way, the amazon pages have a five page preview on them. Please check it out if you're interested.

Site Discussion / Is anyone signed up for Deezer?
« on: July 17, 2014, 06:12:21 AM »
I was searching for something completely unrelated to Mario or the Fungi Forums and I ran into a digital Music service called Deezer. I guess it started in France and has expanded around the world.

Here's the link: http://www.deezer.com/soon

I only bring this up because it bears the name of the man who is said to have created the Fungi Forums in Antiquity. This made me laugh.

Here's a link to my fabulous shop!

There's lots of cool stuff there for everyone. Check it out! Click, I insist!  Actually, it would be a big deal to me if you were to share a link to the shop on your Facebook. I don't want to be obnoxious about it so I won't hound you about it, or anything.

My art itself can be seen here: www.magicalhamster.com

I've never really shared any of my art here. I do abstract stuff that in the end looks pretty concrete. Enjoy!

EDIT: Apparently it's too much for the Fungi Forums. My apologies.

Mario Chat / A Mario game I really want to see
« on: June 07, 2013, 02:32:02 AM »
I remember as a kid I thought up a power-up for Mario: The Cheap-cheap suit. When Mario put it on he'd turn into a Cheap-cheap. But not the swimming kind. He'd become the kind of Cheap-cheap that jumped up from the bottom of the screen and moved in a direction. I figured the strength of your jump would determine how high you went, and then...Well, I was a kid.

But I realized a few days ago that I still really want a game where I can play as generic enemies. Like a para-troopa would be fun to play as. I could see it's wings working like the bunny-ears in Super Mario Land 2 -- keep pressing A to slow your descent. Some monsters would be near impossible to design a level around, like a thwomp or a pirahana plant, but pretty much anything that can move could be put in. It would even be interesting to play a Goomba who can't jump. I figure levels could have all sorts of secret paths depending on which character you're playing as. Maybe you could even take a team of monsters with you so that you could switch them around to get farther in a level.

I was also thinking maybe the monsters could respond to mushrooms. Like you start out as a Koopa Troopa who walks on it's legs and can't jump; you get a mushroom and turn into a Koopa-Troopa who walks on it's hind legs and can jump, and one more mushroom puts you into Para-Troopa territory. Certain characters would have a special move that you could use by pressing a button, like Hammer Bros. throwing hammers, and such. Or Boo becoming non-solid for a limited time.

You probably wouldn't be able to unlock Boo as a character until you beat the game, since that would pretty much unbalance all of the level designs.

Mario Chat / So...Uh...Baby Waluigi?
« on: January 21, 2012, 02:15:14 AM »
I don't remember playing a game with him in it. I often see him brought up as a joke character for potential roster-stuffing on various message boards. (Okay; just on Game FAQs.) So I'm a little perplexed at how and why I found a plushie of him.

Is this counterfeit or something?

Not at the Dinner Table / ~ Big Personal Announcement! ~
« on: January 12, 2012, 02:38:15 PM »
I realized that I was transgendered about nine months after joining this site, although I was already starting to feel some confusing things I couldn't quite understand back then. It can be a difficult thing to wrap your head around -- especially for the person experiencing it! But since 2001 I've known that my "self", or my spirit, is female in nature. My parents were not supportive of this, although I told them early on, and the town I lived in was a small Mid-West one that wasn't a good environment for that sort of thing. I ended up becoming uber-self repressed as a result.

I started dealing with it finally in college, and getting some help from a counselor...And wow, when I say I was self-repressed, we're talking a bunker a million miles underground repressed. But after I graduated college ('09) I started living life as female. I started dressing in feminine clothes and taking female hormones. I haven't been mistaken as a guy in public for over a year now so I guess they've done their job pretty well. (My voice was always really feminine -- I was always being taken as a female on the phone.)  I'm way happier since going through with this. No regrets. : )  I would eventually like to get SRS (Sexual reassignment surgery -- "The operation") but it's way expensive and I won't be able to afford it for some time...and even then there's like a year's waiting list.

I suppose this could have gone in general chat, but it's personal, and I know Mario attracts users of all ages, and this might bring up more mature subjects, so I thought I'd post it here. I also realize there's a 19-page post on homosexuality and that this  could be taken as controversial. Whatever. I've grown strong enough to weather criticism. Also, I made a vow to stay with the board 'til it goes down, and I don't want to spend another twenty years being referred to as "he" and "him". : P

So, in summary: Please use the feminine pronouns when refering to Chocobo. : )

Mario Chat / I've had a Revelation: The Mother of Bowser's Children
« on: May 14, 2009, 11:08:13 PM »
Birdo.

Birdo and Bowser had a brief relationship prior to the beginning of Super Mario Brothers one. Her main power is spitting out eggs...So she spit out the eggs of Bowser's first seven children. However, things were not to be and Birdo and Bowser split up on bad terms. In between Super Mario Brothers 1 and 3 these children then hatched and grew up enough to be toddlers. It was during this time that Bowser realized his one true love on the planet is Princes Toadstool and he focused all of his attention on her. Birdo, on the other hand, fell into despair, and end up staying in the world of Sub-Con for a period of time.

The lives of Birdo and Bowser would not intersect again until the time frame of Mario Tennis 64. Birdo had returned to the Mushroom Kingdom and was once again playing the singles game -- as in, dating. (But also tennis.)  When Bowser saw how well she was getting on with Yoshi old feelings bubbled up to the surface and he was filled with jealousy. He made romantic overtures towards Birdo once more and they spent a week-end together. At the end of the week-end, however, it was once again apparent that they were not meant to be, and Birdo left. A few months later Birdo called Bowser and said she was pregnant.

So Bowser was left with another Koopaling egg. Inbetween Mario Tennis and Super Mario Sunshine this egg would hatch into Bowser Jr. After seeing what lazy bums his first children were he decided to take Bowser Jr. under his wing and teach him the ways of tyranny. Eventually Bowser Jr. asked Bowser who his mother was. Embarrassed about his romance with Birdo, he instead told Bowser. Jr. that his mother was the princess. Birdo is still seeing Yoshi off and on.

That leads us to today. Any questions?

Mario Chat / Has Mario ever appeared on Non-Nintendo systems?
« on: April 18, 2008, 06:45:39 PM »
I don't know why, but this question popped up into my mind today. Has Mario ever appeared on Non-Nintendo systems? The only instance I could think of was Donkey Kong being released on one of the pre 8-bit systems, the Atari Something. I vaguely remember Mario was supposed to be a hidden character in some basketball game a few years back but I wasn't certain if that game was a mutli-system game or not. I'd also be very interested in any would-be Marios that appear  -- you know, Marios that are different enough from the copyright that they can get snuck into games. If there are any.

13
(I'm assuming most have heard this story, but I'll throw it in for free just so no one's lost. Doki Doki Panic was a game released for the Famicom Disc system in Japan. Nintendo edited the sprites of the main characters from being a humble family to being Mario and his friends and the game was released in the English speaking world as Super Mario Brothers 2.)

The DS would be perfect for a Doki Doki Panic sequel. The screen on the top could be the Main realm of Sub-Con while the bottom screen could be the Dream-realm equivalent of the area. This would allow you to see when enemies are in certain realms and be able to see Mushrooms and things -- but -- here's the big part: You'd have to keep traveling in and out of the dream realm and the main realm in order to find your way to the exit. Certain parts would be different in the dream realm; there would be rooms where there were only solid walls in the main realm.  Remember how big the SMB2US levels felt and how much exploring you did? Just imagine sprawling labyrinths that span two realms.

Since there would be so much emphasis on going between realms maybe you could carry so many potions on you at a time. Like, a max of 10 or something. (You know...You throw the potion, and a doorway appears.) Sometimes there would be areas where you could get an extra potion if your supply had run out but you needed more in order to finish the level.

Yeah. That just came to me a few days ago. It could still be a Mario game or go with the original cast, either way it'd be fun. It'd also be interesting if Bowser and Yoshi traveled into Subcon as playable characters.

Edit: Removed the excess k's

Mario Chat / Wouldn't a new 2D Mario game be fascinating?
« on: October 10, 2003, 06:30:37 PM »
We've been having alot of ports of classic Mario games and I think it's wonderful in a way that it brings the magic to those who missed it the first time...But...I feel like we're missing a real oppurtunity. The GBA is basically a handheld SNES, and that means it can be a portal back to the glory days of 16 bit Gaming. A second coming, so to speak.

I think it'd be great to see Miyamoto and his crew came swinging in with a new 2d Mario game. Maybe it'd be Super Mario Brothers 4, maybe it'd be Super Mario World 3...But whatever it would be called, I'd certainly like to see it. If this game were to exist, what would you like to see in it?

I really liked how there were secret paths and secret worlds in Super Mario World 2, so I'd definetely like to see some sort of overworld system although that's probably a given for platform games by now. Another idea I've been toying with is a Mega Mushroom-one that makes Mario taller than his regular size. 'Twould be amusing to see.

Tell me, tell me! What is your vision for the next 2d Mario game?

Mario Chat / A little something about Mario Sunshine...
« on: June 18, 2003, 12:55:32 PM »
Before Mario Sunshine was going to come out, I was in deep thought. How could Mario avoid the cliche of grass/fire/ice/haunted/sky/water that so many of the 3D platformers have fallen prey to? Mario Sunshine's answer to this problem was very unique, and something that really impressed me.

Instead of a group of different environments, they used a sort of motif-a motif of a tropical paradise. Even though all of the settings were still on a tropical paradise, you still got a good variety with the beach, an amusement park, hotel, weird cliffy area, village...

I've always thought that was pretty nifty solution and thought I'd share it with you all.

Kweeh! Kweeh, yes forever!
