Video Game Chat / E3 Disscussion
« on: July 13, 2008, 06:03:00 PM »
Twas the night before E3 and all through gamers heads,
no sadness could be found, nor feelings of dread

Fanboys unite and sit flat on their tushies
to hear the news that makes them feel all mushy

"What new games will I see?" we all sit and wonder
like some infectious disease we've all come under

There will be laughs and tears, blood and gore
coming from the all new Gears of War

It's that time again, can you believe it?
E3 is here again, take it or leave it.

I decided to create a topic for to discuss what you'd like to see at E3, what titles are revealed at E3 and what ever else you could think of.

E3 may have been reduced in size, but it's still when developers usually choose to make big announcements and it's exciting to see new additions to games in development. I'm hoping to hear about a new Zelda, Pikmin, Star Fox, F-Zero and Kid Icarus for Wii. I also have a small hope in my heart for a new Viewtiful Joe. That would be swell.

Video Game Chat / Your family and video games
« on: May 23, 2008, 07:17:24 PM »
Ever since Nintendo introduced the Wii back in 2006, a whole new audience has discovered gaming. Many gamers, for the first time, got to feel the embarrassment of getting their tushy handed to them by their grandma in a video game (usually among the lines of Wii Sports). I bet many of you have converted the nonbelievers towards gaming, or maybe your family has been involved since before the dawn of the Wii. Either way, this topic is dedicated to show your kin's relation to gaming.

The only one so far to become accustomed to play games (with the exception of Wii Sports) as a hobby is my mom. Here's a little timeline:

- 2003: Mom begins playing the heck out of Mario Kart: Double Dash. We often held competitions between eachother.
- Early-Mid 2006: Mom begins to play Mario Kart DS. She likes it, although she finds it hard to see the screen at times.
- Late 2006- Early 2007: Mom watches me play (and suck at) Excite Truck and asks if she can try it out. I find that she played pretty well, so I instruct her further. She becomes addicted.
- Early 2007: My mom is interested in playing Sonic and the Secret Rings when she hears it feels kinda like Excite Truck. She learns the ropes, but remarks that it was the hardest game she ever played. Upon playing it again for myself, I'd have to agree.
- Early 2007: The simple mechanics of Super Paper Mario leads me to believe mom could play it. Mom, however, doesn't quite fully understand the title's gameplay and design until after the ending.
- Mid 2007: Mom moves onto other two Paper Mario games, entirely on her own suggestion. She beats and enjoys them both.
- Late 2007: I introduce Mom to Link's Crossbow Training, thinking she'd perceive it as a simple, fun, addictive title. I thought correctly.
- Early 2008: Mom is currently playing Super Mario Galaxy (you heard me right), has beaten the third Bowser fight and is working to get all the stars. We also occasionally play some rounds of Wii Sports or Mario Kart 64.

She also looks forward to playing Nights: Journey of Dreams and Mario Kart Wii (once we buy it).

So, is your kin "in the game"?

General Chat / Mother's Day
« on: May 11, 2008, 05:21:31 PM »
Well, it's the second Sunday of May, meaning, for many of us, It's mother's day. A day that honors mothers (or motherboards, for those Robots out there) for all they have done for us. Whether it's tuck you in at night or helping all your components communicate with each other, we should take time to celebrate the feminine figures in our lives and what we're doing to celebrate this day.

Today, I got my mom a bundle of flowers and a card. The card reminded her of Super Mario Galaxy. It was really nice :).

General Chat / Happy New Year!
« on: December 31, 2007, 11:17:00 PM »
So, right now, in my timezone, it's 2008. So, how's 2008 so far? Got any New years resolutions?

I wish they would set the clock back a couple of minutes. I missed the countdown >:(. Otherwise, the year has been pretty good to me.

As for resolutions, if we can try to refund our broken exercise equipment, I would like to start a new exercise routine. So, how about the rest of you?

Video Game Chat / Wii Zapper: Buy or don't buy?
« on: November 17, 2007, 03:27:10 PM »
In two days, on the one year anniversery of the Wii's release, Nintendo is releaseing an all new tomy-gun style accessory. It'll have the pack-in game "Link's Crossbow Training", a Zelda spinoff.

...Of, course, most of you probably already know that, so I'll get down to brass tacts: will you be purchasing this twenty dollar accessory? I was going to leave it alone, but with the delay of SSBB past Christmas,  I've been looking at alternatives to place under my christmas tree. Really, If I'd buy it, it would mostly be for the game; in nearly all of the press reviews for games that supported the Zapper, they've said they'd rather use the regular Wii-mote & Nunchuk. So that's put me off, but If I have twenty bucks for a Christmas present, it might just end up beside my Wii-remotes and Nunchuks.

So, what's your take on this issue?

Mario Chat / Favorite Mario RPG villian?
« on: July 17, 2007, 10:09:55 PM »
I thought about making this poll after I beat SPM, and that's exactly what I'm doing right now. As most of us already know, there have 6 Mario RPGs (role playing games) in total. Each one has had there own share of quirky and memorable characters, and really cool villians. So, who do you think is the best?

Is it Smithy, the cold, robotic, blacksmith leader of the Smithy gang, who broke the star road and drove Exor, the giant sword, through Bowser's Keep?

Will it be Bowser, who stole the Star rod from Star Haven and trapped all the star spirits in cards so he could kidnap Peach and vanquish his rival, Mario, once and for all?

Could it be Cackletta, who hired a crazy scientist (Fawful) to aid her in destroying the BeanBean kingdom and stealing the Beanstar so she could wish to rule the world?

Or is it Sir Grodus, the leader of the Secret Society of X-nauts; a group bent on unlocking the thousand-year door and using whatever's behind it to conquer the world?

Might it be Princess Shroob, the evil princess that lead her people (the Shroobs) on an invasion of earth when Mario and Luigi were only babies?

What about Count Bleck, who used Chaos heart to create the void; a dark hole in the sky that would destroy all existence?

Well, I've played through M&L:SS, PM:tTYD, M&L:PiT and SPM. I've recently downloaded PM over the virtual console (though I don't think Bowser has any secrets, like some of the other villians), and I've read about Smithy on Wikipedia. Over, I'd have to say Count Bleck is my favorite. He has a much better backstory than the other villians, and actually has a motivation (kinda).

Remember, if your post contains a spoiler (a significant detail of the story meant to be a surprise), make sure to conceal it in a spoiler tag, like this:I'm a barbie girl living in a barbie world, got it?

Video Game Chat / Best Wii Graphics?
« on: June 09, 2007, 10:06:56 PM »
Well, I was recently reading the "How does Mario look in SMG?" topic in Mario chat, and the idea of graphics was sprung up. Or, to be precise, does Mario look better in SMG or SSBB. That statement made me think:

Which game for the Wii has the best graphics?

Now, I know Nintendo likes to focus on unique ideas rather than realistic graphics, which is super. As such, the Wii isn't a graphical powerhouse; it's basically two Gamecubes working together. Indeed graphics don't make the game; but rather, it enhances it. Sure, fun gameplay is the most important aspect of any game, but good graphics, both technically and artistically, can create an immersive feel to the game, making the game world and characters come alive. Gameplay, graphics and sound work together: if put in perfect balance, it could create an ambient, addictive, fun experience the likes of which bring the game to a whole new level.

Now with that little speil out of the way, let's begin the topic. I think SMG has the best graphics. The textures are crisp and clean, the character models are smooth, and everything is well rendered an has a nice, cartoony look overall. It's exactly how I dreamed a next-gen Mario game would look like. Seriously. I had dreams a fantasies of how SM128 would look like, and now it's coming true.

Video Game Chat / Sports that should be included in Wii Sports 2?
« on: March 23, 2007, 09:37:21 PM »
After playing Wii sports for the first time in months, I've remember why I fell in love with this game in the first place: It's simplicity, fun and good use of the Wii-mote. But noticably, Nintendo only put five sports on this disk: Tennis, Golf, Baseball, Bowling and Boxing. Wouldn't it be fun to have a wider variety of sports? Now, suppose Nintendo decided to make a sequal to Wii sports. What games would be included on the disk, and how would they use the Wii-motes capabilities? I've got plenty:

Wii Sports Squash: It would play exactly like tennis, but with the obvious differences that squash has to tennis.

Wii Sports Volleyball: it would have the same viewpoint from Wii Sports tennis. For this game, you would use both the Wii-mote and the Nunchuk, and use them as if they were your real hands: you would be able to volley, bump, spike, and serve from either underhand or overhand, replicating the movements in real life in order to do them in the game.

Wii Sports Fencing: It would either play from the same viewpoint a Wii Sports boxing, or from a side profile veiw. You would only use the Wii-mote for this game, and you would use it as if as though you were really swordfighting in a fencing match.

What other sports do you think should be included in Wii Sports 2?

Game Help / Trapped in Royal Family tomb in Occarina of Time!
« on: March 12, 2007, 02:34:16 PM »
Hello. I recently bought LoZ:OoT over the virtual console. I'm having fun with it. I've beaten the first dungeon, talked to Zelda, went to Kakariko village, played Zelda's Lullaby at the Graveyard, went into the royal family's tomb, and learned the Sun's Song. But now the door is leading back into the graveyard is blocked, and I'm trapped in the room with the Redeads (who, BTW, are very scary). I don't know how to get out! Does someone know how to get out?

Forum Games / Mafia Forum game
« on: August 15, 2006, 12:39:28 PM »
Hi, ya'll! I wanted to make a new forum game, so I thought, "Hey, why not bring the popular Mafia Forum Game to TMK?"  Sooo...I did.  Right now.

The basic game play goes like this:  There are 2 main types of players; the civilians and the mafia.  Every night, the member(s) of the mafia will decide who they want to kill.  Once they decide, they'll PM me to inform me of who the person is that they want to eliminate.  I will then write a paragraph describing how the person was killed, sometimes bringing in other people to the story.

After that, everyone in town, mafia included, votes for the person they want to lynch.  Whoever gets the most votes will be hung from the gallows.  I will then reveal what type of rank the "lynched person" was. Example; a civilian, mafia, etc.  In order for the civilians to win, they have to hang all the members of the mafia.  In order for the mafia to win, they have to kill everyone in town (except for themselves, of course!).  Also, when voting, people must post their votes directly in this topic.

There are 2 other roles as well.  One of them is a police officer, who can kill anyone he/she suspects to be in the mafia.  The police officer can only kill ONCE, every 3 days.  The other role is a doctor.  The doctor can revive anyone who has already died.  The doctor can only do this ONCE every 4 days.  The police officer and doctor must PM me to inform me of  who they want to kill/save.

Note:  The police officer and the doctor can both be eliminated, just like everyone else!

RULES:
-Once you die, you're dead.  You cannot vote nor can you suspect anyone.  You'll have to wait until the game is over to play again.

-I will inform mafia members of who their partner(s) in crime is.  Other than that, you CANNOT tell anyone who you are.  Only you shall know which role you are playing; mafia, civilian, doctor, police, etc. For example; Mafia members cannot tell civilians that they are a part of the mafia. Another example: Civilians can't tell other civilians they are a civilian.

-Please don't whine if you die.  If you want to play again, feel free to sign up after the game is over.

People who have joined:
-Glorb
-cantthinkofaname

So, that's all folks!  Sign up in this topic.  After a few days (or whenever I get enough players), I'll send PMs telling each of you which role/character you have been given.  Roles will be distributed in a random fashion.

Mario Chat / Fake new Mario merchandise
« on: August 14, 2006, 11:34:10 AM »
As the topic states, you can post your own ideas for new Mario merchandise. I'll start;

FLUDD: As seen in Super Mario Sunshine, FLUDD is now available on toy store shelves everywhere! It's basically a water gun that straps onto your back. All you have to do is pull back the two handles, and you'll be squirting water quicker then you can say "Mario". The box also includes a hover nozzle, which you can use to hover in the air for at least 5 seconds, but only if your under 200lbs. Nintendo is also experimenting with a rocket nozzle that can shoot you 20 feet in the air, and a turbo nozzle that can launch up to speeds of 32 MPH(42 in water). Fludd comes in 3 sizes (small, medium and large) and will retail at a price of $59.99.

Mario Bobble heads: Highly detailed bobble heads based on the popular Mario franchise (obviously). These awesome looking bobble heads will be sure to make any washer or dryer a lot more exciting! Series 1 includes Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Bowser and Donkey Kong. Series 2 would include Wario, Waluigi, Koopa troopa (red and green shelled), Bowser Jr. and Toad. Each one costs $4.95.

Mario chess set: Since Nintendo knew a "Mario chess" game really wouldn't catch on, they decided to release a Mario themed chess set out to the market. As an added twist, each figure has a button that, when pressed, will make them say a phrase. Each character comes equipped with 3 phrases. The chess set comes with 32 pieces, one board and costs $12.05

Mario Chat / A theory on SMG's story.
« on: August 08, 2006, 06:25:04 PM »
Super Mario Galaxy is shaping up to be a great game. However, we know hardly anything about the story beyond the fact that Princess Peach gets kidnapped by a creature from space. So I have a theory on the storyline of SMG;

There are two planets neibouring each other; The Star World and the Mushroom World, where the Mushroom Kingdom is. The Star World is held together by dozens of stars. Without them, the star world drifts into hundreds of small planitoids. For centuries, the two planets could only commuinicate via radio waves sent from one planet to the other. However, new advances in technology has lead the inhabitants of the mushroom world to create a space ship that could get to the star world in a matter of three days. Princess Peach and the seven kings from SMB3 blast off in the ship. Strangely, on the third day of flying, the space association of the mushroom kingdom(TSAOTMK) lost contact with the ship and the star world in general.

Scared that something bad may have happened, The Mushroom Kingdom sent their greatest champions, Mario and Luigi, in a spare ship to investigate what happened. On their third day of flying, a strange creature raids the brothers' ship and destroys it. He places the brothers in two "bubbles" and places them in outer space near Star World. Mario and Luigi remain there for 1 day, cold and hungry...until suddenly the bubble they are trapped in pops! They fall towards Star World. Once they've landed they are greated by a small, tiny, faceless star(he's the cursor that you control in SMG) that claims to be the one that popped their bubbles.  He explains that Peach and Co. were brainwashed by the creature (he is the Star World equivalent of Bowser) into stealing the stars that kept Star World together.

Under the influence of this creature, Peach and Co. proceeded to steal the stars and as a result, Star World drifted into pieces.  The creature then took Peach and the 7 kings away to his castle.  The star told Mario that he needed to collect the stars located on certain parts of Star World inorder to bring the planet back together again.

In the game, whenever you collect new stars, certain parts of the courses that you have played will now become a part of Star World.  Collecting a certain amount of stars will allow you to go to other coures to collect even more stars.  Older courses become unplayable.  However, you CAN play them with the use of Toad's virtual reality system, which becomes available as older courses become unplayable.

Oh,and Goombella did say that "They were able to put a Goomba on the moon in '69". However, the moon is closer to mushroom world then Starworld. It would have taken 25 years to get to star world and back before the mushroom people invented a faster rocket ship.

Sooo... that's just my theory. Please, feel free to leave any comments.

Video Game Chat / YKYOWNW...
« on: August 07, 2006, 09:04:30 AM »
This topic's title stands for "you know you're obsessed with nintendo when..." and we post just that. For those who haven't played this type of "game", you basically just post ways you know you're obsessed with nintendo. Like these ones:

You know your obsessed with nintendo when...
- You accually bought the virtual boy.
- You plan on buying a PS3 for the sole purpose of smashing it and saying "Nintendo rocks. Boo Sony!"
- When You under-go plastic sugery to make your nose look more like Mario's.
- When you travel for hours on a plane to Japan and find the location of Mr.Iwata's house, just so you can ask him to sign your DS.

Now you can try.

Forum Games / Try escaping this one, Mcgyver.
« on: August 01, 2006, 04:52:25 PM »
I've adopted this game from another forum. The premise of the game is simple; someone posts a situation, describing the surroundings, what's happening and what player has on hand. The next poster has to post a solution using the items given. Here is an example:

Poster 1: You wake up in a paded, white room with a stray jacket on. You've been framed. The mental hospital is closed, meaning no one is inside save for you and the other loonies. The paded room is featureless except one door with a window on it that leads to a hallway. With in your grasp is a smoothed stone and an expired credit card. What do you do?

Poster 2: I use my legs to throw the stone at the window. I then pick up a glass shard with my foot and us it to cut open the stray jacket. All with my foot. Good thing I took those yoga lessons! I place the credit card between the crack in the door, which opens it. There, I escaped

Then poster 2 would post another situation.(also, you don't have to use all the items given to you.)

I'll start. You find yourself armpit deep in quicksand. The quicksand is in a deep pit. Your arms are still free. You have a clothes pin, a short peice of string(shorter than the pit) and some silly putty. What would you do?
