Announced on October 2nd, Club Nintendo has finally come to North America. Much like the Japanese Club Nintendo, American gamers can register Nintendo products to earn "Coins," which can be redeemed for exclusive goodies. As expected, the program launches with some Mario-themed merchandise:

 - Hanafuda Cards (800 Coins)
 - Mario Party Playing Cards (600 Coins)
 - Mario Nintendo DS Game Rack (600 Coins)
 - Nintendo DS Game Card and Stylus Set (600 Coins)

Club Nintendo also offers Game & Watch Collection for 800 Coins. Previously only available through Club Nintendo in Japan, this Nintendo DS game includes the Multi Screen Game & Watch version of Donkey Kong.

Well, it's nowhere near as good as the stuff Japan's been getting for years, but it's a start.

Urg, I can't get it to work...When I put in the PIN number, it ignores me.

I get the same thing then I have to keep signing in. How annoying! You only get three games on G&W watch Collection? I hope it saves my scores for 800 coins. Japan has Game & Watch Collection 2 as well as Tingle Balloon Kid! I hope it gets better. I'm so annoyed that I'd like to lick a lemon lollipop in Lillyhammer.

I'm going to sign-up in a few weeks, after the entire internet stops hammering it at once.

Well, it's seems like it still has a long way to go. I registered WarioWare: Smooth moves, but it didn't give me any points. Still, it's pretty exciting entering a code. Hope they get it fixed soon.

You don't get points just for registering your games you also have to fill out surveys. I'll wait a week until it calms down a bit.

I finally got it to work!  Unfortunately, I only have 50 coins worth of registrable merchandise, as I bought most of my games used...

I heard about Club Nintendo upon purchasing the Japanese SMB2 for GBA off of eBay. I never thought it would come to America, though...

I can't, however, figure out how to register Virtual Console games.

They get registered automatically if you have your Wii signed up with the same e-mail or something.
That was a joke.

There are two ways of registering:

1. If you have an existing Nintendo account, it'll automatically transfer your account information to Club Nintendo.

2. Create a new account at Club Nintendo.

The site seems to have calmed down quite a bit if anyone's interested.

I don't get it.   Can we register the barcode number on the back of DS/Wii game boxes that were bought before Club Nintendo launched in the States, or do the products have to have been recently bought?  If it's the later, THEY MESSED UP AGAIN!  First (in recent years) the Wii's crappy memory system.

I think it's the registration number inside the box that says "Register your software."

NE89 is right, but some of those don't transfer.  Also, most all of the games that can get coins are first party.  A few VC/WW games are third party though.  So far it only appears Secret of Mana has a Post Play survey though.  The other surveys should come in 4 to 6 weeks.  Of course you don't get coins for just registering.  You also have to do a survey.

I've completed all the surveys that end before March 2011 and ordered the Hanafuda Cards.  I'll hold off on the other survey's until the new Nintendo year which begins on July 1 and ends on June 30.  That way I can guarantee myself platinum status for another year or two.  I have plenty of registrations any way.  I think I'm only missing a couple of Pokemon DS titles and a dozen or so VC/WW titles.

BTW, the only games that currently count are:
Wii Games
Animal Crossing: City Folk
Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree
Endless Ocean
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Link's Crossbow Training
Mario Kart Wii
Mario Party 8
Mario Strikers Charged

I'm impressed with that list as Nintendo could have easily only allowed new games published with Club Nintendo slips like in Japan.

What about the games that are on that list, but your copy was bought long before CN launched in the US?

Eh. Sounds great, but I can't see myself getting into it. I try to avoid that sort of stuff, if someone can get into it and mess things up.
