Anyway, the forums are perfectly fine. Nice simplicity and no stupid space-taking pics next to your name and not a jillion options like on newer forums. I would neve leave these forums. Nobody should change them at all.

Seems to me that since they're still supporting all the forums across this network, and a couple of them still get posts (like NEStable, I think), I'd think they'd still support this one, as long as it was alive. I suppose I'd have to ask the higher ups if that was true, though.
The other thread was closed because of the tone and direction it was taking. This thread is much better.
And what do you mean by fixing holes, exactly?

Unfortunately, I just found out that these forums are not fixable because all CG forums are shared source.

Not just ClassicGaming, but all of GameSpy's network has these forums! Sites that aren't even on CG have the same ASP database.

For the people still against a new board, what if we could make a phpBB mimic the current setup? A new board doesn't have to mean more clutter.

Why not? If it looks nearly identical, without all the server problems, what's the issue?

I think by "works," he means that the server "problems" of not being able to ban and all the special powers really have no effect on the fun we have here and the meaningful or spirited or wacky discussions that we create. I'd argue that the server problems have made the forums more interesting and more fun at times. Please don't confuse technological working with working working.
As long as this server remains, don't change our forums.

You can't get something - whatever this board has - on new forums. It's just special like that. Please. Don't force something on us that we don't want just because it's not the newest hunk o' junk on the Internet. If the people don't want it, don't do it just because you want it. Don't kill it.

See, this board is like the Millenium Falcon - the ugly hunk of junk that everyone loves and can do the Kessel run in 12 parsecs or something. Sure, those new Imperial Cruisers look nice, but changing forums ain't like dustin' crops, MegaByte. One wrong move and we'll be space dust from here to Alderaan.

Well they already killed the magic. Gamespy changed something without telling us and I was forced to change my handle because it no longer supports ASCII.

You know what could change? The different section descriptions. Like under story boards it still says the joke about "like story boards for cartoons? Ha ha?" Just a suggestion.

I'm changing my opinion. Only change the boards if we have all of the old threads, and if the changes are very, extremely, stupidly slight. Like... changing the background color, or something.

BTW, you can do stuff with the phpBB forums with the CSS and change the layout and stuff. I wish I knew a lot of CSS stuff, cuz you could have a really good forum that way.

I think frostbite pretty much summed things up here. This was my very first forum I'd ever joined. I have plenty of memories rooted here, almost all of them good.

I'm not talking about moving forums, I'm talking about switching to a new kind, something like phpBB. You can keep the look and everything the same, you can even make the forum look and act exactly as this one, with some time on coding. It'll offer much more security than this place.
