Title: What makes you say "What the dukar?"
Post by: BriGuy92 on May 07, 2007, 07:05:15 PM
Alright, I just wanted to start a new topic today, don't really know why, but I thought this would be a good conversation starter. So, as usual, the title describes it all. What makes you say the famous TMK phrase, "What the dukar?" Let the world know!

As for me, I say "What the dukar?" when I see a totally ridiculous post here on the FF. Something wiht a lott uv speeling erurz end stuf. Kinda like that sentence.

Then again, would you call it famous...?

Oh, it's famous all right. I say "what the dukar?!" in response to just about any error I happen to make when making a web page, Flash program, PHP script, etc. I also tend to say "huzzah!" when they work.

When a banned member speaks, I usually said "WTD" because usually, it was their voice that got them banned.

I don't say it because it's a stupid phrase.

I think it when I see a weird post in the forums.

Glorb makes me say it. That's what won him the WTD Award.

Uh, didn't I win the WTD Award? Or you mean the past awards when I wasn't here yet?

The fact that I can't post in Game Help makes me say, "What the dukar?"
Title: Re: What makes you say "What the dukar?"

When did "dukar" ever come into the lexicon? I've never seen it used anywhere else and I feel goofy saying it. Which is why I don't say it.

I hate in-jokes unless I started them or I'm in on them. Which, I suppose, is the definition of an in-joke...

Why not "What the Exploding Barrels?"

Post by: BriGuy92 on May 08, 2007, 11:34:14 AM
What the dukar?!?!?

Exploding barrels? That's a little too Donkey-Kong-ish, don't you think?

I should start my own phrase, like "fleeber". Yeah...

What the fleeber?
Get the fleeber out of here!
You fleeber.
Go jump in a fleeber.
I don't give two cups of steaming fleeber.
Fleeber.

EDIT: By the way, a thought just came into my head: Dukar Nukem. You're welcome.

Why not "Shut the dukar up"?

I am perplexed at the fascination of this 5 year old word. Really I am, it got old for me a few months ago. I feel sorry for the mods who have been hearing it for years!

"Dukar" isn't in Newspeak? WTD?
Yes and this fact is "doubleplusgood" to know.
Title: Re: What makes you say "What the dukar?"
Post by: Chupperson Weird on May 10, 2007, 08:32:22 PM
Well, you're only coming at it from the point of view that it's supposed to be a novelty word. I guess it sort of is, but apparently some people have inserted it into their own lexicon.
Title: Re: What makes you say "What the dukar?"
Post by: Lizard Dude on May 11, 2007, 10:15:03 AM
Why not "Shut the dukar up"?
No, never say that. It doesn't make sense.

Unless you're telling someone to make an actual dukar be quiet.
Title: Re: What makes you say "What the dukar?"
Post by: Glorb on May 11, 2007, 10:34:32 AM
So, you mean dukar can work as a noun, but not a figurative whateverism? I think fleeber is much more expressive.
Title: Re: What makes you say "What the dukar?"
Post by: Suffix on May 11, 2007, 10:39:14 AM
What Lizard Dude is saying makes sense, but I still wish I could call "dukar" a universal euphemism (which is what I used to call it).
Title: Re: What makes you say "What the dukar?"
Post by: MaxVance on May 11, 2007, 02:27:59 PM
This reminds me of part of an old topic in #tmk. For a while, it said "New mailbag omdwtdbbd" which also makes no sense. But the expanded form of "omd" might be useful now, considering what Sapph is doing (http://themushroomkingdom.net/board/index.php?topic=10202.msg468455#msg468455).

Or you could simply find a new exclamation. There's plenty out there.

I like how the thread title (How old are you?) is a good response to what people are doing there (complaining about people saying, "Oh my God").

I say "what the dukar?" when I don't feel like saying "What the heck?". I use them for the same things, though. I use it when there are really ignorant things going around and I don't understand them. Or when someone says something really shocking.

When I heard the song "This is why I'm hot" for the first time.

Exactly. Half of the song doesn't make any sense to me.

Please, while you still can, change the spelling to "dooker."  It is the only way.

EDIT:  I particularly enjoyed Chupperson, Popeye, and Charlie Brown.
Title: Re: What makes you say "What the dukar?"
Post by: MaxVance on May 13, 2007, 04:05:33 PM
Since we all wrote a lot on our league message board, we had to put "dukar" down in print. The good spellers among us all assumed it to be spelled "dooker." My spelling challenged friend (debate partner from above), however, started spelling it "dukar." He was one of the lead proponents of dukar and convinced one of the other debaters (from above) to also spell it that way. They said it was the Old English spelling; that's why it didn't look like "dooker." With two Dukar Founders advocating the "dukar" proposal, it quickly became the standard in dukar lithography.
It can't be changed.

LD's talking like dukar is some super-rad thing that's sweeping the nation. I have a sister who used to do that after she said the word "strog-noff" as a mispronunciation of "stroginov". She thought it was funny, and started talking about proper usage of it, the history, and so ona and so forth. She also acted like it was some hilarious in-joke that everyone was in on. Eventually I was just like, "Seriously. It's not funny anymore, and it wasn't even in the first place." Obviously, this doesn't seem to be the case with dukar, but it reminded me.

By the way, I remember when I just assumed dukar was some Homestar Runner reference, since everything was back then.

I am currently saying "WTD?" to all the programs that advertise "free ISO creator" and then force you to pay to actually be able to create an ISO. Why must people be so money-focused?????
Don't even mention Wario.

Well, when I first joined, I noticed two things: 1), that everyone said "dukar", and that everyone made HR references. So I thought, "Eh, maybe I just haven't seen that HR cartoon yet."

Interesting, because every time I see "WTD", it makes me think, "What the duck?"

And it's not too late to change!
