Title: Countdown to Wii
Post by: Mr. Melee on October 30, 2006, 06:23:25 PM
Well, I figured that if there's been a countdown to Super Mario Sunshine before, there should be one for Wii. This is the unofficial topic for the countdown to Wii. Feel free to share Wii anticipation, any last thoughts about Wii before experience, and talk Wii (Will you wiiserve Wii for mii?). So,

Prepare! Wii in 20 days.

Well, I might as well share some of my thoughts on the Wii:

-I'm glad that Nintendo is reaching out to a bigger audience with games for the casual gamer as well as the Hardcore gamer. It's great for the person playing the game, and it's a great buisness decision on Big N's part (if there's more playing Nintendo's games, Nintendo will get more fans and thus more money), but I'm just afraid that somewjere along the line, Nintendo might forget about the Hardcore gamer. I'm not saying they will, they've already got a great line of games made for the skilled gamer looking for a challange (Super Mario Galaxy, SSBB, Metroid Prime 3, etc.), but I'm afraid they won't produce enough of these games and lose the core gamer. But hey, I think Big N knows what they're doing, so I know Nintendo will manage to keep the Hardcore gamer, and attract some casual gamers as well.

-On the other hand, the Wii-mote's motion sensing capabilities will provide all sorts of imaginative game ideas for the console, like what Nintendo's doing with the DS. In a world of crap games like Aquaman: Battle for Atlantis and Drake of the Ninty-nine Dragons, isn't that what the hardcore gamer really wants-nay-needs?

-I heard that in UK, because of a law preventing a electronics being left on over-night or something, Nintendo can't have Wii-Connect 24 in that area. I wonder how NoE will get past that one? Maybe people in the UK will have to download the WC24 content online manually?

-Here's the games I'm hoping to get at launch:
-The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (At first, I wasn't going to get this game, because I just wasn't that mature of a gamer. Recently, I thought to myself, "Robert, stop being such a wimp and go get the game. It's been highly hyped, and probably a great adventure to boot. Don't deny yourself probably the best game for the Wii at launch.")
-Rayman Raving Rabbids(At first, I had no interest in the title. I thought it was going to be another installment in the Rayman series, nothing special. But after I read all about the unique things the creators are placing in the game in an article in NP, I immediatly wanted the game at launch.)
-Excite Truck (When I heard about this game at E3, I automatically wanted the title. Why? I guess I liked the idea. All of the physics-defying jumps of Excite Bike, but with big ol' trucks.)
-Elebits (A creative idea definately worth checking out. Could this be Nintendo's answer to Katamari Damacy?)
-WarioWare: Smooth moves (What can I say? I'm a WarioWare fanatic.)

Those are my thoughts on the Wii.

Where have you heard that? I leave my electric toothbrush charging overnight and I've never been arrested or anything!

Anyway, the games I'm most looking forward to are: Red Steel, Prime 3, SM Galaxy and Brawl (and maybe Trauma Centre). However I won't be getting one at launch unfortunatly...not unless I rob a bank or something (which I can't be bothered to do quite honest).

Robert, I have no doubt that Nintendo will forget any kind of gamer. Stop worrying about such a reliable company.

Hopefully, I will have enough money to buy just Wii at launch. I'm spending my last $50 to reserve it, but after a run with eBay, I should have enough. Besides, I'm sure Wii Sports will hold me at bay until I get some money, or I'll just wait until Christmas. Once I can get a game, it'll probably be Twilight Princess.

Be Relieved. Wii in 19 Days.

Oh, sorry. I meant that the British government banned all electronics from going into stand-by mode, which is what WiiConnect24 is planning to use.

Yeah, you're right. I had a little bit of worry, but with games like tLoZ:TW, SSBB, MP3:C, SMG, Project H.A.M.M.E.R (a game I'm very interested in buying when it comes out), Disaster: Day of Crisis, Red Steel, Fire Emblem and tons more, it's apparent that Nintendo hasn't forgotten the Hardcore gamer

Might I politely ask you to explain why you hate the Wii-mote, Dark_Shark? Personally, I think it will inspire all sorts of new, imaginative game ideas from developers. I already have a few creative ideas for games myself. But I don't own a company, and I'm too young to work, so I'll have to wait for games to get made.

Check me down as one of those who procrastinated on his Wii-order and will camp out outside Toys R Us the night before. I just hope bum rushing is enough to get me Twilight Princess. If not, I'll settle for ExciteTruck, Trauma Center, any GC games I missed out on.

The alternate Wii controller, useful for playing the Virtual Console games that just wouldn't work with the Wiimote and also as a more traditional form of controlling your game. I believe that it also works with Wii games. Also, there are four GCN controller ports on the system itself.

I see absolutely no reason to hate the Wiimote. However, there are a lot of Wii haters in my school. I just keep saying...

We'll See in 18 Days.
Pleast note that this is how I get 18 days left counting today(The 1st of Nov. = 1st day ... 18th of Nov. = 18 days later. After the 18th day has ended, it will be the 19th day, so technically after 18 days, Wii will be released).

I heard that SSBB will use the Classic controller for most of it's gameplay.

Or the GC controller!! Given that I already have a GC  controller I won't be forking out £15 for a classic controller.

I plan on buying four Wii Classic controllers, and I'll have at least one GCN controller if the insurance company replaces the wireless adapter for my Wavebird.

By the way, I found a neat counter on Toys R Us' website. It displays a Countdown Clock for each system. Just follow the --()> to it.

Well...Wii in 16 days and 8 hours! YEEEES!

Hee, hee. Just thought I'd do that. Hey, is that allowed Mr.Melee?

I want to get the Wii at lauch, even though there are no games I want at lauch. I will get SSBB, WarioWare, and SPM later. Those games *should* rock. Heck, they will! I don't think I'll get a second controller right away, though, considering how expensive it is.

Oh yeah, check out this (http://www.n-sider.com/articleview.php?articleid=541) website. It's nice.

So that's 2 people here who aren't planning on getting Zelda. I just want to know...

How is that even possible?! It's mind-boggling, it's confusing, it defies the laws of physics, it's, it's...

(https://themushroomkingdom.net/board/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi52.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fg16%2FMidgetBottle%2FPowerpuffGirlsZ%2FKaoruleuleuleu.jpg&hash=e558c897f777f821f66fc85a13411849)

It can't even be put in words (plus I needed an excuse to use that picture).

So, how much cash do you guys have saved up for your Wii-fund? I have enough for a system, an extra wii-mote, an SD card, and about 2 games. Knowing my generous parents, they'll probably get us an extra wii-mote for Christmas since my siblings have a hard time sharing.

Hey, guys, I've heard that an enhanced version of the Wii has been announced for release next year in Japan. Not a lot is known about this new Wii, except it'll be able to play DVDs right out of box. Man, the Wii isn't even on the shelves yet, and Nintendo has already announced an improved version. They could have at least waited intil one year to announce it. One question, though: what ever happened to that "internal attachment" for the Wii we were promised that could allow it to play DVDs?

Uh, I think it's great that this is known before the first Wii comes out, so I don't have to buy another one if I really wanted that improved version.

But still :(.

This also hurts Nintendo pretty badly. People will think, "Why buy a Wii at launch when I can get one with a DVD player sometime next year?" there for, some people won't buy Wii at launch. If enough people think this way, Nintendo is gonna be hurt a lot when it comes to sales come November 19.

Also, don't get your hopes up just yet. Big N hasn't confirmed it coming to the U.S., Canada or Europe (for the time being).

SushieBoy, I'll say it again. Your theory is incorrect and is hereby proven wrong. If we waited for the next system by your logic, it would never come. This is true, as your theory states that there will always be a better system, and that we should wait for the better system. However, if the next system is better, the theory would start over again, meaning we would wait for yet another system, and again, and again. Your theory is wrong. You are not a scientist.

Hey, guys. I've heard on Wikipedia that Elebits might use be able to go online with the Nintendo WFC. Nintendo has said that the Wi-Fi service for the Wii will arrive somewhere in 2007, so we can't be sure if this will be true. But if it is true, than Elebits will be the first Wii game that can be played online. Plus, it'd boost Konami's sales for the game tremendously. Here's my proof:

On the subject of the Wii, I've heard that in Excite Truck, you'll be able to upload your own Mp3s into the game's soundtrack via the Wii's SD card. I guess Nintendo had more then one use for the Wii SD card other than uploading pictures to the Wii, huh?

Source:http://wii.ign.com/articles/745/745362p1.html (http://wii.ign.com/articles/745/745362p1.html)(Scroll down to the sixth paragraph)

I wonder if Nintendo will have more innovative uses for the Wii SD card? Maybe you could upload the images on your SD card into the game? For example, maybe in Mario Kart for the Wii, you can make your own icons displayed in Wi-Fi matches just like in MKDS. However, as well as making your own icons, you could also upload a pic from your Wii SD card and use that as your icon for matches. That'd be so cool!

I guess since Nintendo wants to attract the Causual gamer, that was why that feature was implanted?

D:
DEATH OF GAME MUSIC?
;_;_;_;_;_;_;

Naw, I think that they'll still have game music in the game. This will just be a sorta side-thing you can do if you have Mp3s on your SD card you want to listen to in the game. I guess this'll be good for games with crappy soundtracks: "Instead of listening to the bad music we provide you with, you an upload your own tunes and listen to them!" Pretty convienient, if you ask me.

I think that most of the hardcore gamers care more about the gaming aspect than about DVD-playing capabilities, possibly not even caring at all about the latter. Hardcore gamers are also most likely the only ones to buy a Wii before or on release day or shortly thereafter. If both of my thoughts are accurate, then I don't see what the problem is.

On another note, am I the only one not obsessing over the Wii? Hecks, I'm not even buying one sometime soon,  and not really even because of money, either. ::SHOCK::  I plan on getting one in the future, of course, but I guess it's not a priority to me. Man, I've changed. Does this make me a "traitor" or something?

Also, I doubt Nintendo cares about how many Wiis sell on November 19 or in the launch window. What really matters is how many are sold by the end of the Wii's lifespan.

Does this make me a "traitor" or something?

I'm finding it kinda funny how a lot of non-gaming media is just realizing that there are 2 major gaming consoles coming out in less than a week.  My father handed me a section of the paper today talking about the "news" of what each system (PS3 and Wii) has in it.  I kinda chuckled until I read what the guy said first about the Wii.
Quote
Yes, the Sony Playstation 3 and the Nintendo Wii (pronounced "we," or as we say here at Game Central, "Whee!") are still poised to make their debuts on Friday and Saruday, respectively...

I knew things would be at least somewhat off at this point.  For the most part, it wasn't too bad, but he kept refering to the controller as a wand, and stated that every Nintendo game ever released would be available for purchase, failing to mention the Sega and TurboGrafx games.  Oh, and Wii puns were far too numerous.  As in, there was more than zero.

Need? I find that a little insulting somehow, that one would badly need one.
I don't think playing it or not would make much of a difference on "how badly" I'd want to get one. Video games are still fun for me, yes, especially the experience of a new game, but I'm finding myself less interested in them than I used to be--in desire to play them and less attachment while playing them. I guess I've just become more interested in other things.

Ironically, my life has felt more fulfilling now than it's ever been. I don't know why I'm telling you all this; I don't expect anyone here to understand it or agree with me, not to mention I feel like I've been or will be judged by you guys for it, even if it is just jokingly or dramatically exaggerated. :/

I'm not a "hardcore" gamer, I do not suspect... I don't much care about the DVD player. I'm not getting one for sometime either. There is really not too much reasoning behind me not getting one other than I can do other thinkgs with my money (like pay for college), and I still have my other game systems to fiddle around with-- they are pleanty of fun for now! Plus, the one game I really want to play -- Twilight Princess -- will be coming out for Game Cube.

Hey guys, I just saw a commercial for Red steel on G4TechTV (Over here in Canada, that channel is a lot better.) In the commercial, some guy was playing playing Red Steel, using the Wii-mote as a sword. The sensei pops up, telling him stuff like, "Train harder!", "What are you trying to do, tickle them!?" and, "Your ansestors would be ashamed!" We see a bunch of sword fighting gameplay footage from RS, until the sensei exclaims something like, "Alright, forget this, just get the gun". Suddenly, the gameplay footage shows the player using a variety of guns to dispose of his enemies. As the commercial comes to a close, we see the RS box art. The last shot we see is one of the 3D Wii logo, simular to the one we saw in the video released when the revolution was re-named to the Wii. Both 'I's in "Wii take a bow. Commercial over.

Interesting. I think it's pretty insightful on how the commercials for the Wii will play out. Can anybody find it on YouTube or whatever?

I find it kind of sad that you're selling your own stuff to buy a Wii. I dunno, maybe it's just because I never sell my stuff, or because I feel working hard for what you want makes the prize at the end that much sweeter.

But regarding the reviews, I'm not liking that average score for Excite Truck. That was one of my guranteed games I'm getting, and I really don't want to be disappointed by it. Well, at least it'll be fun to drive around with Kibō no Kakera or Ridin' Dirty playing in the bakground.

Well... I played Excite Truck, and to be honest, it wasn't mind-blowing. Sure, it was a lot of fun, but the handling was a bit less sensitive than I would have liked, and my truck was bouncing all over the place. Probably fixable with some practice, though. It is a great game, for the four minutes I played, but I think, if I were getting the Wii and some games, Excite Truck would be pretty far down the list.

Eh, I think Excite truck looks pretty cool. For the time being, it's on my list for Wii games to get this holiday season. Besides, my mom can only play racing games, so my mom will be able to play. It's too bad the Wii only comes with one remote, meaning my mom and I can't play multiplayer together :(. I'm not willing to shell out $40 for a another Wii-mote just yet.

Still, I'm look forward to Excite Truck under my christmas tree this holiday season.

Seven reviews and Excite Truck has 71%.  I'm hoping to see some good Rayman and Red Steel reviews, but if Ubisoft didn't send out review copies that could be a bad sign.  I bought Rayman anyway and will probably win Red Steel from Dojo of Pain.

I am very happy to say that my eBay auction with my GCN and its accesories ended today at $135. With my $50 gift card, that adds up to $185. Hopefully, my mp3 player auction will sell tomorrow for more than or equal to $65 (which is likely). Don't worry, the only reason people are camping out is because there are only leik 25 PS3's per store.
Sony is so selfish. USA only gets 400,000 PS3s, compared to 1,000,000 Wiis in USA.

EDIT: New info - you may not have to reserve your Wii after all. A new study shows these results:
40% want a PS3
25% want an Xbox 360
22% want a Nintendo Wii
13% would rather have none

I'm not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing. It's a bad thing that Nintendo is losing its popularity, but it's a good thing that we can actually get a Wii.
Title: Re: Countdown to Wii
Post by: Mr. Wiggles on November 16, 2006, 07:07:15 PM
Sony's not being selfish. The reason for the low shipments is because, despite problems in production, they're rushing a product on the market to make sure they establish themselves again and avoid losing their spot in the next-gen race. I'm sure most of the first shipment systems are riddled with problems.

Alright!  Someone besides me is having a countdown.  It stinks when only one of your friends from church/school seems to be excited about this.  I have a great plan next month.  My friend is going to buy a Wii and then go on vacation near the end of December.  He said I could borrow it then and that will be the perfect time because I get Christmas break from college work until Janurary.  Even better, I'm going to get a free 30-day trial of Gamefly from Kellogs so I can rent more games while I'm renting the system!  "It's brilliant, I say!  Brilliant!"

Don't worry, the only reason people are camping out is because there are only leik 25 PS3's per store.

Maybe once the Wii arrives in stores and IF the stores put them on display (mine probably won't :( ), kids will start buying them like chocolate hotcakes.  Then their friends will see them playing it, and have to get their own.  Then the me-wanty fever will begin. ^_^

Speaking of the campers, I just saw a story of that on the news.  Someone said he trade giving his family gifts so he could get this!  People have such messed-up priorities!  It makes me sick.

Does anyone know when Nintendo will drop their price if they will?  Do they only do that if sales aren't great?

I'm getting ready.  I've planned on sitting around at my local 24 hour Wal*Mart.  We don't have any kind of lawn chairs, but I'm sure I could buy one while I'm waiting.  I believe they will put the Wii on sale at 12:00, so even if I don't get one there, I have time to move to a Target a little ways away.  And if I don't get one there, there's another Wal*Mart just down the road from the Target.  And, if all this fails, I'll just...well, let's be honest, I'm going to sit in my garage and cry until there are more to buy.
Title: Re: Countdown to Wii

Wal*Mart should let people sleep in the camping section!  And then wake everyone up at midnight over the speakers. "Attention, fanatical customers... WII GOT 'EM!!!!" XD

I anticipate hearing about your stories about camping in front of stores and stuff.  I've never done that before but strangely part of me has always wanted to.  What if... there was like a huge crowd of people waiting at stores across America and then at midnight it was just ultimate chaos?  Mwuhaha!  Wait, then someone might get trampled and we don't want that.  They would have to go to the trauma center.

I hope that all of you can get your Wiis!  This week is taking forever and I'm not even getting this.

Oi, this does not look good for my Wii dreams. The payment for the GCN auction is still "Uncleared" and should be clleared "by November 21." >>:(. So much for Wii on opening day. More bad news to pile on: my mp3 player auction hasn't budged, and is still at a standstill at $40.99. Well, it ends tonight, and they usually go way up at the end. I sure hope so. However, in all this good news, I unknowingly received my replacement Pokemon FireRed in the mail yesterday, and as I speak, I am readying the eBay auction that includes the game and an Onyx GBASP. Wish me luck.

I wonder why people have trouble with "tomorrow".....

Though I've never said it here, I've said in #tmk a few times that I'm not getting a Wii at launch, but rather I'm hoping to get one for Christmas, for a few reasons:

1. I'm cheap
2. I'm lazy
3. I'm fairly patient

BUT, my father's going crazy about Christmas this year, saying he cannot get me a Wii, as they're "too expensive, and we're just not making enough money". A similar episode occured 5 years ago for me. I could not get a Gamecube for Christmas, as they're "too expensive, and I don't get enough money from unemployment. If only Topline kept me after 9/11...."

Mom though, says she will be purchasing all the items on the list. She even KNEW what the Wii was when she saw it on my list.

"Wii, is that the thing where you like....*waves arm in the air, pretending to hold something in it* with this remote thing?"

Well, seeing as midnight has passed in the eastern portion of the country:

Just keep your pants on! Wii in 1 more day!

Oh and don't be a baby and go "no it doesn't count 'cause it's still 2 days here" and make another post later which is a repeat of mine. A guy did that in a GameFAQs forum in the Pikmin 2 section and he was a total baby about it when I confronted him.

I don't belive that, Luigison, the Wii will surely sell out the PS3, 360 doesn't stand a chance.

I believe it, because:

1. Xbox 360 has been out for over a year now
2. PS3 came out a whole two days before the Wii, and there are TONS of Sony fans not caring about the wallet burning price who'd purchase it.

Of course this doesn't mean I hate the Wii. I want one. :(

Aww, the low count just means that one is waiting for PtPeach...somewhere.

Don't count on it.  I searched three stores this morning only to find empty shelves.

I left around 6:30 last night to go find a store. Passed by Game Crazy who told me they were all sold out to those who reserved and warned us not to go to Wal-Mart or Target because they both already had lines around the store. Of course, he was talking about the downtown ones because I went to the one near my school and luckily the line had barely started.

There was a sign near the freeway that said the line started there and only two people were in front of me, only one of which was actually buying a system. So I stood next to them for 2 hours doing almost nothing until numbers 3 and 4 finally showed up. Then my mom had come back and brought me a chair and a sleeping bag. She took up a spot at the end of the line for my cousin who was also going to buy one. There was nothing really significant that happened though, other than a guy driving by shouting "PS3!", and an employee driving out at closing time and screaming "I already got my Wii, mother(you know what)" then throwing a display box at us.

The guy in front of me kept the line orderly and knew ahead of time the number of units the store was getting. After person number 24 (the number of units the store had) came, he pretty much told everyone that came that they probably wouldn't get one. Then I spent the rest of the night drinking Coke and playing my DS until around 12 when I fell in and out of sleep, not conking out until around 3.

I woke up around 6:13 to the sound of my mom's voice, who had brought me coffee. More people had arrived during the night, but the line wasn't very huge. So most of us cleaned up our area and employees started to arrive. At 7 am, two guys came out to us and explained the rules: They would hand out tickets to people in line and it was first come, first serve. About a third of the line didn't get a ticket and we were lead single-file to the front of the store. We had to wait another hour for them to open while early birds tried to line up only to be told they can't get one. Then the moment came.

The store opened and the ticketer guy lead us to the electronics section. There we handed our tickets to a security guard and chose our games and stuff. I managed to get a Wii, an extra Wiimote, ExciteTruck and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. My cousin got the same except for ExciteTruck.

As for the system itself, it is absolutely small. Pictures don't do it justice, you have to see and feel the thing yourself. The controls took me a little getting used to, but by the time I inserted Zelda, I was perfectly comfortable using the remote. Wii Sports is fun but very basic, and I'm horrible at ExciteTruck. Hopefully I can get better in time. As for Zelda, I didn't read any reviews but it controlled fine for me and its definitely the best Wii title out right now.

Overall, it was a fun experience but I wouldn't wanna do it again. The cold is brutal to you. Or maybe next time I'll come more prepared with a heater and a tent.

Awww, I wanted to get it at my Wal-Mart, but I had to wait in line until 12:01 A.M. I saw around 15 people waiting at 2:00 P.M. I didn't want to wait, because I would have nothing to do, and I wanted to watch Naruto at 9.

My dad had to drive for some bachelor party, so even if we left for the city at 7 AM, I probably would've still have ended up Wii-less.

As Mr. Wiggles went to a Target, my story involving a Target is pretty much the same. There were some differences, though:

Friday evening, around 7pm, there were around four people in line. Saturday evening, around the same time, about 20 were in line. I arrived around 8:30pm, with bagel chips, Gaaaatoraaaaade, sleeping bag, and lawn chair at hand. It was hard to sleep. The people around me talked about how Guitar Hero would look like on the Wii, then they played with their DSes and Magic cards they bought inside.

Nothing remarkable happened overnight...

I woke up around 6am to the crack of dawn, which happened to be behind the Target building. Good thing there was an office building with extremely reflective windows that decided to relay the message in a rather painful manner.

Around 7, the Red Shirts (heh heh) explained the rules, one ticket per paying customer, credit card must go through or you're blanked, free popcorn and coffee. #28/117.

At 8:30, I was out the door with Wii, Classic Controller, Zelda, and 4000 Wii Points at hand.

The people who came around 6am waited another two hours in line waiting for people to checkout. Meh.
