Site Discussion / Hey, Deezer! (Mario Manga Covers)
« on: March 16, 2003, 03:38:46 PM »
I was leafing through TMK, and saw the request for Mario Manga cover scans in the "wanted" section.

Are you still looking for those?  Because I remember hearing about this site from somewhere a while back (it may have been from these very forums) that may be what you're looking for.

If not, just disregard this message.

Site Discussion / Found a SMW bug!
« on: February 15, 2003, 01:41:30 AM »
I don't know if this bug is new or not.  I looked through the SMW bug page, and I think it might be the "block factory" one, but I'll go ahead anyway...

It was in Vanilla Dome 3, right at the halfway point.  After the koopa was dead and the red shell was still, I picked up the shell and tossed it upwards at the blockk that contained Yoshi.  The shell missed the block, but just barely, and hit just to the right (the red switch hadn't been pressed, so it was just the outline.)  And there, to the right of the Yoshi block where the red outline was, appeared another Yoshi block.

That's it.  Is that the "block factory" bug?

Site Discussion / Hey, TMK, I got Mario tunes...
« on: February 01, 2003, 04:32:46 PM »
Hey, to anyone at TMK who happens to be interested, I just happened to acquire several Mario-related tunes that I haven't heard before (including on WTMK.)  Tell me if you're interested in/have heard/don't need/whatever these:

DJPretzel - Mario64 SunkenSuite OC Remix : A nice remix of the water tune from Mario 64 by DJPretzel (Hmmm... I've heard that name before...)
Jaroban - Super Mario Medley (Live) : Exactly that, a live performance of a Super Mario medley.
Bros. 2 -- Super Buck Jazz : Dunno who the artist is, but it's a very well-done jazzy Mario 2 overworld.
Analoq - SMB3 Aquacadence : The SMB3 underwater tune with a very dramatic feel to it.
Mustin - La Samba de Agua : A live samba version of the water world's map theme from SMB3.
Virt - DrMario Funky Pills OC Remix : a great version of the Chill and Fever songs from Dr. Mario.
Kaijin/JAXX - Marioland - Reel Big Mario - OC Remix : Good remix of the Super Mario Land tune.
Spacepony - Let's go Mario : A sort of loose remix of the SMW tune with some sounds added as rhythm.
World -- Super Mario's Sleigh Ride : Dunno the artist.  Sort of Super Mario World fused with Christmas tunes.  Weird.
DJPretzel - SuperMarioWorld Vegas OC Remix : There's DJPretzel again... a very sw.anky remix of the SMW tune.

Site Discussion / Animal Crossing references...
« on: September 18, 2002, 03:15:17 AM »
I see you managed to get most of the Mario references from Animal Crossing up promptly.  I can confirm that the "M" shirt isn't just a custom design (I delivered one to Tangy once.)  But there is one more reference (that I know of) that you missed:
When you hit certain rocks with a shovel (I think there's one per character per day) it'll turn red, bounce to the side, and drop a bag of bells.  If you can then hit the rock 4+ times before it fades to gray again, it'll drop large sums of bells, and play the Mario 1-up tune.
That's it!

Mario Chat / Detail features in SSBM
« on: July 02, 2002, 12:16:24 AM »
I just discovered a new (to me, at least) little feature in Smash Bros. Melee:  if you go into the sound test and select a level BGM to play, then go into the trophy gallery, that music will be playing.

Isn't it amusing how many pointlessly random little details like that are in the game?  From the myriad hidden features, and things like fighting Giga Bowser, or the metal Bros. as opposed to just metal Mario, to being able to tilt the screen with the c-stick and use alternate musics for many levels, to the entire concept of the trophies, the sheer number of them, detail of the description and the fact that one will occasionally seem to earn one out of the blue...
Just the fact that they bothered to put all of this stuff in is simply grand.  I wonder what else there is that I've yet to find...

Site Discussion / Question: The MP3s on WTMK
« on: April 07, 2002, 07:41:00 PM »
It would be best were a TMK staff member to answer this, but I'll leave it open if anybody has some information.

I'm trying to find the MP3s of some of the songs that have been played on WTMK.  Some of them, however, I have no idea what they were called nor who they were by, and I haven't heard them recently.
Particularly, I'm looking for a few of the medleys, the ones of SMB (I think it started with a weird techno voice), SMB3, and the SMW one that uses the underground>ghost house>castle songs.

Any help would be appreciated; it's hard to search for something you don't know what to call, and the sooner the better, as this is tied in with a school assignment that's due in a couple of weeks.

Mario Chat / Did anybody see the latest Futurama?
« on: January 07, 2002, 01:14:46 AM »
It looks as though Deezer's got more to add to his reference page.  How amusing!
Ambassador Kong from the planet Nintendu 64, Mario as the Italian ambassador, Donkey Kong laughing, climbing the building, and stomping the floors into diagonals... They even used the original sound effects!

Mario Chat / "Hee hee! I got it!"

Yeahha!  I now own a Nintendo Gamecube!  Good ol' 24-hour super K-mart!
I'm sure that there's nothing I call tell anyone about it that they wouldn't already know, but I thought I'd mention it.

Anybody else who's gotten it on its release day?  Or would everybody be too busy playing to respond...?

Forum Games / Wario's Challenge
« on: November 13, 2001, 03:25:01 AM »
"Hurry up, Mario!  You're gonna make us late!"
Luigi stood impatiently by the door, tapping his foot in frustration.  He nervously straightened his tie and adjusted his cuflinks.
"C'mon!  Both Peach and Toad have been ready for the past twenty minutes!"
"I'm coming!" Mario yelled back from the other side, "Just another minute!"
"Yeah," Luigi muttered, "another one of your 'ten minute-minutes.'"  He looked at his wrist, despite his not having worn a watch.
The sound of someone coming up the stairs got Luigi's attention.
"He's STILL not ready?" Toad said, approaching.  He, too, was dressed in rather fancy attire.  "Even the Princess didn't take this long!  Why'd he have to go and wait until the last minute?"
"That's Mario for you," Luigi said, less than amused.  "He'll be late for everthing but dinner."
"But this IS a dinner!"  Toad protested.
"Yeah, at Wario's."
Toad shivered at that.  "Don't remind me.  I don't see why that creep wanted us to come to his stupid castle in the first place."
"Eh," Luigi began, chuckling a bit, "perhaps he just needs more people to annoy."
"Oh, cut it out, you two," Peach said, climbing the stairs.  "You have to give him a bit more credit than that.  This is a cordial dinner invitation.  Perhaps he's turned over a new leaf and wants to show his appreciation for his fellow man."
Neither Toad nor Luigi could hold back their laughter.
"Bahahahaha!  Oh Princess," Luigi said, wiping a tear from his eye, "your guess was even funnier than mine!"
"Hmmph!"  Peach remarked, crossing her arms, "you've no faith in anybody any more!"
"Oh no, Princess," Luigi replied, recovering from the laughter, "I have all faith in others.  It just seems a bit out of character.  What next- will we have Bowser throwing us parties?"
Toad guffawed at the thought, but managed to supress any laughter.
"Well-" Peach began, just as she was cut off by the sound of a nearby door opening.
There stood Mario, dressed in a slick black tuxedo.  His hair was neatly groomed, his suit smoothly ironed without a single pasta stain or greasy smudge.  He looked about as classy as a plumber could look.
"Talk about out of character," Toad said, smiling.
"Wow, bro!"  Luigi exclaimed, "you're looking fantastic!"
"I'd better," Mario replied, "you ever tried putting on a tuxedo?"
"Well," Peach interrupted, "now that we're all ready, we should really get going.  Wario's castle is a ways away."
And with that, the four set out, down the road.

... * ...

After a rather uneventful trip and two rounds of "99 jars of spaghetti sauce on the wall," the group finally arrived at Wario's castle.  The hefty door knocker made a reverberating sound that echoed throughout the halls.  Wario swung open the large door and stood before them.
"What?"  he said bluntly, busy eating a bucket of chicken.
He stood for a second examining the group, all dressesd up nicely for the occasion.  He, of course, wore his usual filthy-smelling clothes.  He looked at Mario and froze.
"BAAAA HAAHAAHAAHAA!!"  He broke into an outragous laughter, spewing bits of chicken all over Mario's texedo.  "Oah, Mario!  You look like a penguin!  AAH HAAAHAAAHAAA!"
"Wario!"  Peach broke in sternly, "we're dressed up for the dinner that you invited us to tonight!  If it wasn't going to be so formal you could've told us!"
"Nah," Wario said, "more fun this way.  Come inside, I've got lotsa chicken."  He then walked away, leaving the four standing there.
"Ugh!"  Mario stood revolted, wiping the bits of chicken off of his jacket with a handkerchief.  "We got all dressed up and came all this way just to eat bucket chicken in Wario's crummy castle?"
"Come now, Mario," Peach comforted, starting to not even believe herself, "his intentions are still good."
"I'm not sure how much more of his 'good intentions' I can take," Luigi said, starting through the large doorway.  Everyone else followed.

The inside of Wario's castle was as anyone could've expected.  Statues of himself lined the corridors, small piles of garbage collected in the corners.  The group was quick to make its way down the dining hall where Wario sat in wait.
"'Bout time!"  Wario complained, "Didja get lost on the way in?"
"No, we-" Mario began.
"Oh, oh, I know," Wario interrupted, "You were just admiring all of the handsome statues in the hall."  Wario made a large, smarmy grin beneath his pointy mustache.  "When you're as great as me, you can have whatever you want in your castle!"
Wario stuck his hand in his bucket for more chicken, but only managed to rattle around the stripped bones.
"Hey fungus," he said to toad, "gimme one of those buckets."  He gestured to the table where several more sat.
"Oh come, Wario," Peach said angrily, "what makes you think that you can just boss people around?"
Wario stood up tall.  "I am the great and powerful WARIO!!  I'm better than ANYBODY else!  No one can beat me!"
"Hah!"  Luigi snapped back, "we, the renowned Mario Brothers, are at least a HUNDRED times better than you are!"
"Oh yeah!?  Wanna bet?"
Peach was becoming worried.  "No, I don't think-"
"We can win against you, Wario!"  Mario said, having full confidence in his and his borther's abilities.  "What do you have in mind?"
Wario thought a moment.
"You,"  he pointed at the brothers, "need to get me (the great WARIO) that, um..." he started gesturing in the air with his hand.  "That spikey collar-thingy that Bowser wears."
"Bowser's collar?"  Mario asked, "but why-"
"'Cause I said so!  Shaddap!"  Wario started again.  "Anyway:  get Bowser's collar-thingy and bring it back here.  Then MAYBE I'll consider you worthwhile."
"Mario!"  Peach interrupted, "this is insane!  You shouldn't-"
"We'll do it!"  Mario yelled.
"Good!"  Wario agreed.  "Can you be finished in a week?"
Luigi looked uncertain.  "Uh, I don't think that's enough time..."
"Perfect!"  Wario said smugly.  "You've got three days."
"But-" Mario protested.
"GET OUTTA MY CASTLE!!"  Wario yelled at the top of his voice.  Mario, Luigi, Peach and Toad all ran as fast as they could manage.  The door slammed firmly shut as they escaped.
"At least we know that Wario hasn't changed,"  Luigi tried to comfort.
The four sat silent for a moment.
"Are you happy, Mario?"  Peach scolded, "How in the world do you plan to get out of this one?"

Mario Chat / "10-Coin" block
« on: July 21, 2001, 10:56:02 PM »
I know this is a trivial subject, but it still bothers me nonetheless.
I was poking through that Super Mario Bros. Complete Guide that Deezer announced, and I noted these blocks labeled "10-Coin" blocks.
*Hmm.. I can't think of a good way to phrase this without sounding like one of those nit-picking nerds who points out every slight inconsistency..*
..I'm not sure if you had the concept right, but the name's misleading.  They're timed blocks; a timer begins from the first time such a block is hit, and, once the block's time limit ends, the next hit will render it empty.  That's how one can get up to 14 coins from them, but they'll gaurantee no more than 2 (first and last hit) if not timed well..

...That is all.

Mario Chat / Super Mario song lyrics
« on: June 22, 2001, 10:34:41 PM »
I'm not talking about Mario lyrics that've already been added to songs, such as the ending song to the Super Mario Bros. Super Show, nor songs with lyrics that pertain to the Mario universe, e.g. Ignorance is Bliss, and the like.
I'm talking about actual in-game songs, that would otherwise just be a simple melody, to which players have added lyrics.  Perhaps just a random line or even just a word that always pops into your head during a certain part in the song, or perhaps something a bit more elaborate.  I'm sure there's at least one person here who knows what I'm talking about, but I'll give a few examples.

The underworld song in Super Mario Bros. 2:  I always hear the words "carbon dioxide" repeated in the short tune.  If you can bring up the tune in your mind, you'll see how it fits.

Mario 64, bob-omb battlefield, plus other levels:  just after the first melody repeats for the second time, there's a series of roughly descending notes.  I always add "We.. don't fight.. we just play nice.." and the part after usually copies it with "we don't fight, we don't fight, we play nice, we play nice."  I believe it has to do with the nonviolent pink bob-ombs, but I can't quite remember.

Paper Mario, Toad Town main song:  just a simple word is added to the two string notes that pop up occasionally.  Either "mel-low" or "mel-lon," depending.

You can probably understand what I mean by now.
Anybody else have any interesting "lyrics?"
