Have you ever had an argument or debate with someone about something completely false they believed? I know I have many times. So post your stories here.

This is what gave me the idea to start the thread.

In school today, I was in lunch hanging out, and some annoying freshman I don't even know asks me if played Ninja Gaiden 2 on 360. I tell him no, I don't have a 360. Then he asks if I played the first Ninja Gaiden, so I respond by saying "You mean the one on NES?" (just to be a jerk, I obviously knew he meant the Xbox one) and then he responds saying there was no Ninja Gaiden on NES, so we argue about this for like over 5 minutes, he doesn't believe there's a Ninja Gaiden trilogy on the NES, but that the first NG game was on Xbox. Then I finally win, and all he can say is "the NES has two buttons only, the controls are probably bad."


Gamers these days are full of fail.

I've had arguments like that before, I just can't remember any of them.

But one I remember was arguing over the artistic merit of "Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker". That's sure to lead to trouble. The guy says "This game has NES graphics". I did respond by saying it actually takes a lot of effort to make the art style look like this, but the idea that this looked like the NES was ridiculous. The NES can't display this many colors, the NES can't display games at this resolution. But he still wouldn't listen.

If he responded this way to Wind Waker, I wonder how he would respond to Viewtiful Joe or Okami. "NES graphics", just absurd.

And yes, there are people that don't know what game Mario first starred in, or where Yoshi wings and Yoshi breathing fire come from. Sad world.

There are three questions near the bottom of that post that are pretty easy, but may cause trouble for people who weren't around games at that time. Actually, I'd have more trouble naming off the names of some of the more obscure Mario Bros./Mario World series enemies.

Then again, I'm lucky to have been born when Super Mario Bros. for NES came out, so that I'd remember that era. For people who don't care much about videogame history, I'd imagine they wouldn't look far past when they first started playing games (or even to get a broad view of what popular games were out at that time), thus missing a lot of important info. For example, I did not know that Mario Bros. was also made for the Atari system. Most Atari games I don't know of (there's Adventure and E.T., but that's pretty much all I remember). I'm clueless on Lode Runner. Never played much of the classic LucasArts/Sierra adventure games.

I have a nephew that thinks that the N64 is Nintendo's first system. Oh if only Wayne didn't steal my NES and SNES...

Don't get the wrong idea though. My nephew is a good kid (for the most part) and is fun to have around. It just saddens me a bit to hear him say that.

Hmm... I similar thing happened to me, except I was playing Gears of War Online.

As soon as I joined a match, one of the guys told me they just found out this "cool new glitch" which could be executed by hitting start, up, up, and pressing A repeatedly. Of course, doing this paused the game, and moving it up twice would highlight "quit" and pressing A over and over would quit the game.

Upon hearing this, I had told them, "If you wanted me to leave, you could have asked." and left.

I can't really recall any personal gaming arguements right off the bat, but my brother related to me plenty of encounters with dim-witted pre-teens and their videogame assumptions. Some examples:

-Some kid who said that the next Smash Bros. (I think this was when Brawl had been fully announced, mind you) would be called Super Smash Bros. World, or something like that, and you could do fatalities (make Fox shoot himself, decapitate Pikachu, etc.).

-Another kid who--and I refuse to believe that he genuinely thought this was true--said that "Zero Suit Samus" was mistranslated during North American-ization as "No Suit Samus" and there was briefly a nude Samus as a character. Thirteen-year-olds and their idiotic fantasies...

I was arguing with someone over who would win in a fight: Ness or Kirby. It's Ness, obviously. This guy just couldn't get that into his head. :P But seriously, arguing over who would win over those two makes a pretty epic fight.

Also, WarpRattler gets six points for getting it mostly right; Full Throttle is a drink AS WELL AS a kick-awesome graphic adventure game from LucasArts back in the 90s. LD gets the cookies, though.

I had an argument with a friend about whether or not Mario and Luigi are twins.  If you read in-game text we were both right.  I don't think she's played the SNES Yoshi's Island, and she refused to believe that Mario and Luigi are said to be twins.

There's a trombone player who used to be in my school's band (he's transferring to a different school for his senior year) who thinks Final Fantasy XI is the best MMORPG ever. He has yet to actually compare it to anything except WoW, which he thinks sucks mainly because a lot of people he knows play it and not FFXI. If he needed to, he'd probably argue that WoW can't be played on dial-up...which affects, what, nine people?

I also remember when I used to disprove false Pokémon rumors in the days of R/B/Y. Like the proclaimed "Pikablue" and "Mewthree" rumors. People always jumped at me for those.

I can't say that that's the best way to go around it. Just because Ford came first, everyone must like Fords*? Instead of wishing to punch one in the face, try instead, "Yes, and that's all good, but Nintendo makes some superb third-person platformers, unique games that make use of the Wii's motion control and The DS's touch screen, and there's always Super Smash Bros. It's a matter of taste."

Or just ignore them. You know they don't actually play the games they call kids' games and just make a generalization about all of Nintendo because Mario stands out most. In such a case, you could end it with "'E' means 'Everyone.' Not 'Kids.' 'Kids' starts with a 'K.'"

And of course, the final and best way is to play everything. A bit of a financial challenge, but aren't you above everyone who participates in console wars when you know the good and bad of both sides?

Being someone who plays both Guitar Hero and real guitar, I re-affirm the position that Guitar Hero is not guitar and I agree with Chupperson. If you want to make music, your best bet is to play a real guitar. If you just want to have fun, you can play Guitar Hero (even though real guitar is more fun).

You can't ever really say though, that those people who don't like "kiddy games" are right. They're basically judging the game by the ESRB rating half the time.

Being someone who plays both Guitar Hero and real guitar, I re-affirm the position that Guitar Hero is not guitar and I agree with Chupperson. If you want to make music, your best bet is to play a real guitar. If you just want to have fun, you can play Guitar Hero (even though real guitar is more fun).

In a game where they talk a lot is does matter, usually, but it's never annoyed me that leaving the controller alone for a while makes Sonic wag his finger at you. The newer games, though, yeah, they're pretty much intolerable because of all the characters' personalities. Charmy, Shadow and Amy are the worst. This is a scientific fact.

I'm a Playstation fanboy, but I think Nintendo games are awesome!  The Xbox stereotype, on the other hand, I somewhat agree with.  I'm tired of my friends thinking that just because a game is family-friendly or doesn't involve pools of blood and gore, it's for little kids, or it isn't challenging enough.

What Suffix said. I refuse to believe Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario are part of the same series. My main reason being the dramatic change in HP and damage. There may be timed attacks and FP and jumping, but something strikes me as drastically different between the two. Besides the visual style and moving to N64.

However, I like some of the little touches in Paper Mario like how Mario occasionally trips into battle or Mario in a thinking pose when selecting a move in battle. And I can't resist Kooper for an ally. Put a bandanna-scarf-thing on anything and they instantly become my favorites. What is that bandanna-scarf thing called anyway, to distinguish it from scarves and head bandannas?

I'm pretty sure at one point in my life I asked myself whether a Yoshi was "the" Yoshi, or if Yoshi had any relatives. Although I know there are different colored Yoshis, one Yoshi is shown so much that I still think of there being one true Yoshi (even if he changes appearance). I also wondered whether there were female Yoshis.
My argument for female Yoshis? That Mario Party 1, on the Tropical Island board, had a blue and pink Yoshi. I thought I saw eyelashes on the pink Yoshi, but it was my imagination. Plus, the pink Yoshi in Yoshi's Story has the second-highest voice (white Yoshi had the highest, which I correctly predicted). But I'm sure if I talked with any Mario fan, they'd quickly debunk my theories. Doesn't stop my belief that female Yoshis exist, since I used to be a fan of LunaYoshi's artwork which was mostly Yoshi fanart: males, females, Pokemon crossovers, X-Files crossovers, etc. I stopped going there once her artstyle noticeably matured and the Yoshis changed appearance. Regardless what I think of other artwork, Yoshis should look like Yoshis darn it!

I used to believe Ice Age was by Dreamworks. Then I looked and saw a company I never heard of, "Blue Sky".

Yeah, the characters are annoying, but the broken mechanics, horrible level layouts, laughable script, and substandard stories make it infinitely worse than anything you can imagine. The new character per game thing is just the icing on the poop cake.

Incidently, GamesRader has a pretty good article on the rise and fall of Sonic. I recommend people read it just to see how the decline was the result of inner company turmoil, overconfidence in a product and the fact that the company seems to care more on meeting deadlines rather than creating quality work. Although I'm sure a lot of people will disagree on their opinion of the old ABC cartoons.

Well, regardless of whether SMRPG, PM, and M&L are part of the same series (personally, I consider PM1 a direct sequel to SMRPG, and M&LSS is very reminiscent of SMRPG in many places), people should at least realize that SMRPG isn't part of the Paper Mario series. In addition to the fact that SMRPG came first, Mario is clearly not made out of paper in it.

They're all just games. Mario has an extremely loose continuity (all that's usually constant is that Bowser kidnaps Peach and Mario saves her), but there have been links between the Mario RPGs. Chuckola Cola and some Beanish dudes were in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. Bristles were mentioned and Star Hill was seen in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time. Are any of them sequels of any others? Hardly.

And I actually still like the Sonic games, and really don't get why everyone struggles with the controls and glitches. Maybe I'm lucky, but I played all the 3D Sonics and only died acidentally(not due to my error) once or twice. Maybe some people run through levels too fast the first times? I'm not sure. It's kind of odd.

 Then again, it took me about a month to beat that spider boss in Mario Galaxy. I'm extremely weird in my gaming ability, which is why most of my arguements used to come with my brother. "Why are you taking the rails? It's so easy to miss and fall to your deaths! Kill the enemies on the floor!"..."What? Nah, riding rails is easy...." . What's easy is hard, and what's hard is easy.

That article is HEAVILY biased towards Sonic. They said that Sonic rose to stardom faster then Mario, and said that there was evidence Sonic was well-known more then Mickey. They forgot to say that Mario was in that evidence as well. Oh well. Maybe I'm just overreacting.

As for me, the only fail is basically everyone who thinks that...

1. Call of Duty 4 is the best game.
2. Xbox is better than Wii.

And I'm really mad that this kid is brainwashing my best friend (AKA second best Mario fan in the school) that Xbox is better. He also convinced my friend to get a PSP and sell all of his DS games...and he did...

This is partly true. COD4 rocks in a major way, and anyone who says otherwise is a failure at life.

2. Xbox is better than Wii.

Also partly true. The Wii has a much higher crap-to-awesome ratio than the 360, and Xbox Live is a million times better than Wii online. On the other hand, the AAA titles on Wii are quite awesome, and also you've got the originality and cheap price point and whatnot, so it's really a toss-up.

Like I said before, there are only two major things that stop me from getting a PS3 and/or 360: Failure rates and the fact that almost every good game on one is on the other is on the PC. That, and my lack of perpetual access to broadband internet would severely lower my ability to enjoy the full potential of games.

Honestly, if I had to choose, I'd get a PS3.
