Site Discussion / Forum error... ?
« on: April 02, 2001, 09:28:59 PM »
This regards the way the forums function, or, more specifically, the signature feature.  Check my signature at the end of this message.  The word "it's" contains two apostrophes.  I first thought this was a typo on my part, but I've fixed it twice, and the double apostrophe shows up anew each time.

Any feasible reason why this could be happenning?

If you instead attempt to wrest the pistol from the hand

Game Help / Question about Yoshi's Story...
« on: March 27, 2001, 12:30:53 PM »
Alright, I've got another "is there any point to.." question; this one's about Yoshi's Story (in case the subject was no indication.)

Anyway, anybody who's taken time to play this game knows that eating a variety of fruits in a level will result in a big, only-too-happy heart in the background of the victory screen, whereas eating only the honeydew melons earns a melon (surprise!)  This is possible with the melon because there are 30 of them in a level, as the next numerous fruit is the lucky fruit, which I think numbers only 15.

HOWEVER, it's still possible to get all lucky fruit (let's say apples, for the sake of ease) in a level, despite their lacking in quantity.  Naturally, six similar fruits in a row, melons, apples, or anything, will earn a heart fruit, and while under the effects of the heart fruit, a butt-stomp (or "ground pound," or whatever you want to call it) in the presence of shy guys will turn them all into apples.  Ingesting 30 apples won't be counted as a variety nor give a heart in the background, but will display a big apple (not New York.)

Thus the question:  Is there any point to this?  It seems stange that the game designers would take the trouble to coordinate the background shape with non-melon fruits for no reason.  I've tried to get 30 apples in every level, put the second page seems to be rather lacking in shy guys...

Any ideas?

BASIC ELECTRICITY

Chapter One
For this dangerous, yet exciting experiment, you will need an egg and some wire.  Hold one end of the wire and stick it into the side of your neck.  Push the wire into your neck until it comes out somewhere else.  Then grab both ends of the wire and pull so hard that the wire slices through your neck and comes out.  Then place the egg inside the big slice in your neck and try to crack it by moving your head around.

Review Questions
1. What does this experiment show us about static electricity?
2. Suggest a way to do the same experiment without the egg.

---

I know this has no relevance to anything else but I still find it amusing every time...

Isn't that what the general forum is for?

This is probably negligable, but I thought I'd point it out anyway:

The mailbag is only listed on the sidebar under "also" on the main page.  That is, when the "the games," "downloads," "reference," etc. lists are open, the mailbag link doesn't show up.

That's it.  Just happenned to notice it.

Site Discussion / The scheme behind mailbags... ?
« on: February 23, 2001, 12:04:50 AM »
I was looking down the list of updates the other day and I noticed a strange pattern:  update, mailbag.  Update, mailbag.  Update, mailbag!

That's right, every other update was a mailbag.

This got me thinking:  Deezer gaurantees that the site be updated once every five days, and he has (as far as I know) always kept true to this.  But nowadays, half of all the updates are mailbags.  Of course, that can be considered a fair update, but if it's regular every week, there really wouldn't be a point to announcing it; it could just be assumed.

So, I thought, what if there's other news that might be more important to the Mario fan populace than mailbags?  We'll only get updates on this stuff once a week instead of every five days!  Perhaps Deezer should leave the mailbags off to make room for other important updates.  As of now, he only has to find a true update once a week.

...unless that's the point.

So I thought about it some more.  Does important, Mario-related news come so regularly?  Probably not.  And is it really so much simpler to respond to a bunch of e-mails than to make a decent update for the site?  Most likely.  Even so, Deezer doesn't even write the mailbag responces every week (though I've no proof he did the other updates either... still) so that's even less that needs to be done.

Anyway, such is my theory:  the weekly mailbags were adapted so that Deezer would have to update the site less often without having to go against the regular update plan.

...Any truth to this?

Forum Games / Continuing story RPG...

Okay, character-assigned role-playing stories don't seem to last very long here, so I'm going to try another method.  Basically, I'll start a story, set the mood, etc., but nobody will control any one character.  Instead, I'll leave a sentence unfinished and the next person to post will sieze control of everybody and write another part of the plot.
Anyway, I guess we'll see hpw long this can last.  Feel free to jump in at any time if you've got an idea.  If two posts are made simultaneously, the next person can choose which one to follow.

Here goes:

The rain came down in buckets on the Mushroom Kingdom.  Luigi sat in a chair by a window, watching the drops roll down the glass, and waiting.  It had been hours since Mario had left, and he hadn't even told Luigi where he was going.  Mario seemed to have a knack for getting into troublesome situations, so each minute that he was gone made Luigi more concerned.  Of course, Mario also had a knack for getting out of such sticky situations, so Luigi wasn't too concerned.
Luigi turned his attention back to the book he was reading.  It was titled "The Great Adventures of Johnny Ravioli," and was reccommended to him by Mario.  The story was now in an intense moment in an Italian food convention, and every dish was described in great detail, down to the smells.  Luigi found it difficult to read, as drool marks had stained the page and made a few words smudge.  He set the book down and closed it.
Turning to the window again, he became quite curious as to why Mario could have any reason to suddenly rush out in such weather.  Perhaps someone wwas in trouble?  In couldn't be Peach, she was only a couple of rooms away and Luigi would have heard somehting.  Nobody really wanted to go outdoors in such miserable weather.  But what of Mario?  Luigi began looking for anybody outside.
Suddenly there came a knock on the door.  "Ah, that'll be-a Mario!"  Luigi said as he stood up and started towards the door.  "I wonder what took him so long?"
Luigi opened the door, but Mario was not out there.  Instead, Luigi saw...

Get the idea?  Now the post is open to anybody.  Think creatively!

Game Help / In Mario Party 2...

In every map there is a goomba hut:  a house of sorts that's shaped like a goomba.  In some levels (namely the space land) it doesn't fit in well, but it's always there, and always fairly close to the path.

My question:  is there any purpose to this thing?  At first I thought there would eventually be a secret to activate these, so they'd work as a building, like a bank or a shop, but nothing's happened so far, and I can't think of anything else that could do anything.
Will they ever or were they ever at a point in planning supposed to serve a purpose, or are they just "there?"

Site Discussion / Found an inconsistancy!
« on: October 21, 2000, 12:06:47 AM »
A small inconsitancy in Mario Kart 64 that's not listed on the site.  I'm not sure where I'd report this sort of thing, so I'll post it here.

On Yoshi Valley of the Special Cup, the two mountains in the course are shown in the instruction book map with the same texture as that on the bottom of the canyon.  During the ending, however, the peaks are completely black, without any texture at all.

Further still, if one actually drives up to the top of the mountains during a race, there will be no top at all; one can see right through to the track below.

Just thought I'd mention it.  It is interesting that they have two defferent versions, but that neither of them are right.

In SSB, if you get a million or more points on a one-player run the announcer says "Incredible!" instead of "Congratulations!" on the character's victory screen.  Is there any point to this besides having the satisfaction of getting a lot of points?

Mario Chat / Anyone good at making Mario MIDIs?
« on: September 09, 2000, 05:15:39 PM »
The download section here has a good selection of Mario MIDIs, but is missing some things.
Specifically, I'm looking for a SMW ghost-house MIDI.  Would anyone know where to find it/be able to make a decent version of it? Any attempt would be appreciated.

Oh, and if you don't think you've seen me here before, it's because you haven't.
