Uhh... I just noticed I have a custom title now "Dead". What does this mean? Did an admin give it to me or something? I'm confused. :-\

This is really something you should use the Private Message function for. It's generally accepted that you shouldn't make topics about something that concerns only yourself and another, unless you're asking for advice.
That said, I don't know why you've acquired the custom title of dead, but it most certainly one of the Moderators/Administrators that have changed it, as they're the only ones with that power.
While I will admit that the occassional change in custom title is rather comical, I feel, perhaps, some of the new forums features are being somewhat overused.

I think I have an idea of why you are "dead", and here is why:
As you may or may not know, MEGAB¥TE's custom title is "touch my title again and die." Well I was looking back through some of the old threads, and I came upon one where you (Khold) said, "Hey MEGAB¥TE, I touched your title! ;D" or something along those lines. So, he now proposes you dead.

I don't drink out of cups that much, just water bottles, and the paper wrapper thing always blocks the level of the water in the middle so I can't tell if it's closer to full or empty.

I think getting a CT is an honor from the mod or admin who bestowed it upon you. Unless, of course, it says "Banned."

Mr.Melee, Khold and Bird Person are right. I think you're taking these CTs WAY too seriously. If someone wanted to ban you, they would edit your posts to tell you what you're doing wrong, or PM you about it, or change your CT to "Banned."

Uh... But, we're not trying to say that if you keep thinking you're going to get banned that you will... You have nothing to really worry about. You can't get banned for posting too much.You're not breaking any rules. And if you saw with previously banned members, it takes quite a bit to get you banned.

Private Messages. As members, we're not entitled to know the inner workings of the forums, nor decisions made by administrators. What is done is done in the best interest of the forum, and what is told to the members is based upon the good graces of the staff.
If you have such a strong desire to know why he was banned, then Private Message one in charge, instead of further derailing this already irrecoverable thread.

I think that "negative" custom titles detract from the forums. They confuse other members, have the potential to anger those who have them if they don't understand why, and might lead to situations such as this one. "Banned" and "warned" should be enough.
Then again, that's just my highly depreciated two cents.
EDIT: For the curious, my newer-ish CT has nothing to do with this recent event. I changed it before I found out about this earlier today. It has everything to do with my life in general. This is all anyone needs to know.

On the matter of derogatory Custom Titles, I agree with Steve.
While admittedly, the titles can be amusing, they offer nothing in the way of helping the members correct their problems. Contrary to that, they can be insulting to that particular person, and only encourage further misconduct. My personal feeling on this is that it breeds a sort of elitism. Not necessarily in the sense that those giving the titles are acting in such a manner, but that it can foster the perception from the perspective of those on the receiving end, and those whom they regard as friends. Though perhaps in a slight way, without a structured way of dolling out Custom Titles, they may only serve the purpose of dividing the forum more so than it already is.
Any benefits a derogatory Custom Title may achieve can be done without the negative repercussions through a simple Private Message.

I'm pretty sure you either have to completely disregard the rules or the mods and admins have to really, really like you.

I think you just have to say something particuarly funny and then a mod or admin works it in to your CT. Or you say or do something over and over for a long time.

It's supposed to be a fun little thing. It's kind of like a reward(well, besides being "banned" XD). What you say reflects upon your CT. Heh, look at me, I was messing around saying I wanted a fancy CT like the belt. I got WWE CHAMPION ;D. I actually wasn't expecting that, though.
Another thing is, is that you never know who gave you it(mostly). You could ask, but you probrobly won't get an answer. I remember the one I got that was "the antidite that gets me by". That was a good joke... Deezer told me that it was a song. But, notice the grammar when somebody gets you a CT. Luigison sometimes doesn't use correct grammar, so it could have very well been him.
But if you know an admin well enough and made friends with them, they'd probrobly give you a CT of your choice if you asked. Well, that's would I would think.

Yes, I think they can. It would be pretty hard for Deezer and MEGAB¥TE to do all the CTing here.

Global mods can, and I know regular mods can change their own CTs, but I dunno if regular mods can change others' CTs.

I am roughly 99.94873% sure that I don't have the ability to change others' CTs. Really, the extent of a sub-forum moderator's domain is limited powers in all the public forums (on this thread, I can delete, lock or move the thread, and delete or edit any replies), and global mod power on the sub-forums they are listed as moderators for, and the ability to change their own CT. Which is still considerable, in all honestly. Better than the not being able to open or move topics things in the last forum build, heh.

I've had a few CTs, but they were mostly reflecting upon my name of what I've "asked". In this topic, I was making a joke about wanting a CT as fancy as the WWE champion belt that was shown earlier. I guess somebody took the joke and actually gave me the CT of WWE CHAMPION. That was pretty funny...
I still don't know why Markio got a CT that said Sapphira. That was random... Actually, most CTs are random.

Some CTs also come from chatroom incidents, like Markio's "Sapphira" one.
Ultima Shadow's "your old title" is an example of both.

Only a mod or admin can give or change a CT. It's best to let them go away, since talking about them can get you a worse one.

Posting a lot isn't bad if your posts mean something. Some people are banned when they post a lot of not-so-meaningful posts just to get their post count up. One-word replies such as "Interesting." or just "Cool." is what other members were banned for in the past. That's why Sapphira added that new rule in the Rules & Guidelines thread.
Keep in mind that a CT almost always reflects upon your behavior on the boards or the chatroom. Asking for one(as said before) will get you a bad one. That has happened plenty of times. XD

Khold is right. CTs here usually reflect your behavior and can only be gotten by acting oddly. Or if you say something weird in the chatroom, you're more than likely to get that as your CT. :P

I mean, sure, they may scare away new potential members who are afraid they'll be "hazed" with bad CTs, but as long as we're having fun, that's all that matters, right?

This is true, but it's not like he sent just one or two emails out to people asking for specific help. He sent them to a lot of people, and if I remember correctly it just said stuff like "If you like (insert video game that i can't remember here) then come join this forum!! But you don't need to join if you don't need to."

I think I got it because sometimes(but not in a while I think) I tried to "solve mysteries" of incidents that happened on TMK. If you scan through my last posts from a while back, a lot of them are from dr.sh0ws, bumps, lawyer-ing other members from being banned, etc. This isn't a bad CT, is it?

From what I've seen, there are only a few members who hide their online status. I doubt any of them are Deezer, MEGAߥTE, Sapphira, Chupperson, or Lizard Dude. However, I'm not so sure about Watoad....

It's just a Custom Title. I don't see how it's hurting anything.
Though I don't know the circumstances of Aarom's Private Messaging Fiasco (APMF), I find it hard to believe that someone would think sending enough Private Messages to be deemed "spamming" as anything but a mistake. It's called common sense, and if people aren't going to use it then they're forfeiting their rights to complain about the repercussions. Though, in this case, the repercussions are something hardly worth complaining about.
Besides, it seems as though it's serving its purpose. If people know they're going to be exposed in public, through some means they can't remove (In this case a custom title), then they're certainly going to think twice before acting.
Whether or not he's had the title long enough isn't my decision, his, or yours. Though I'm sure he's appreciative of your concern for him, it's not our job, as members, to tell the Mods/Admins how they should run the board or any of their policies. They'll remove it when they deem fit, and that response should be good enough for anyone.

I still think that the confusion, whining by existing members about having (or not having) titles, and potential decline in the desire for new members to want to join vastly outweighs any deterrent or supposed "humor" that a negative or ambiguous CT can present. And I still think that CTs, the way they are being used, detract from the quality of the forums.

I fully agree with Black Mage, in the sense that it's a way for the mods and admins to tell potential rule abusers and whatnot what they're doing wrong, in a way so the abuser will quickly change his or her ways in order to avoid getting a custom title of the same kind, because again, it's quite a big deal to have one, for some of us. I also think it's a way for the mods and admins to be humorous in a way that is almost fun because oftentimes no one else gets the joke.

I don't know if this has anything to do with anything, but ever since I've thought these CT insults (THEY ARE INSULTS NO MATTER HOW FUNNY THEY SEEM AT FIRST) have gotten way out of hand (about the end of January), every month has had about 40% of the new members as the two months that this trend was not the case.
I'm not sure if the correlation is actually there, or if I'm obfuscating this slowdown with something else, but I'm just throwing things out there. S'all.

There are some boards, some communities that CTs work for. Apparantly, this is not one of them. Members here whine about not having them, and then whine when they get one they don't like. Seriously. That's the community, not the CTs. What's wrong with titles denoting sub-forum mods, global mods, admins, and banned/muted members? What's so important about using CTs to crack jokes at others' expense?

Custom titles may be used for positive and negative reasons. If you receive a negative one, or you don't understand your CT, take some time to evaluate your behavior and correct it.
