Title: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Post by: ZGDK on May 28, 2008, 03:30:25 PM
Who here has seen it yet? IMO it was pretty good. Raiders is still the best, but this movie aside from the very end seemed to be the freshest so far. About halfway through I had to **** real bad and I refused to get up. I would have wet myself to just sit through that whole thing.

Dunno what to tell you megamush, I haven't met anyone who didn't like it. So I am inclined to insult you, but I won't.
Anyway, I thought it was pretty awesome.

Exact same with me. My pee was so compressed at the end it was nearly green when it came out.

I was surprised with the direction they took with this, and leaves me wondering how they'll handle part 5. If Shia LeBoeoueoufea replaces Harrison Ford, I will knife George Lucas.

I know someone who hated it so much they disowned the movie from the rest of the series.

If Shia LeBoeoueoufea replaces Harrison Ford, I will knife George Lucas.

This is how I felt about Apollo Justice.

He isn't "replacing" Harrison Ford, but he's going to be the main character of the next thing with Indy supporting.

They really took it in a different direction.

FOLLOWING TEXT CONTAINS SPOILERS

1. Aliens in a Indiana Jones movie? I guess thier entering the Sci-Fi Genre. (Err...is that a good thing?)
2. The ultimate fate of the villian was similar to the first movie, consumed by power/knowledge.
3. Poor Indie, gettin' Old.
4. BIG HUGE SPOILERS(Can't block): If that dimensional portal returns...I'm labeling Indiana Jones Sci-Fi/Adventure.

Different, but still good, IMO.
Shia Lebeoufefo... whatever, I will always remember as the kid in "Holes."
This one had funny moments and serious, both mixed well into the story.  But I still like Last Crusade the best (mostly because of Sean Connery)

It was one of the best movies I've ever seen. Seriously, it was.

I didn't get anything to drink because I didn't want a full bladder (I missed part of a Harry Potter movie once because of that).

That aside, the movie didn't disappoint (in my area, though, I've heard mixed opinions). Wrinkly Harrison Ford (he's older than Spielberg and Lucas, for crying out loud!) was a distraction, but I thought it had a pretty neat plot and some great action sequences (surviving nuclear blast=Hardcore). There was a obviously a little bit more mystery-deciphering along the in the wake of the National Treasure movies, but that's to be expected.

They decided to emulate '50s style serials/movies instead of '30s style this time around, because that's when it takes place.

I think the best part was the refigerator scene. That was awesome.

I already knew about the aliens before I saw the movie, and I don't really mind. Space was a big theme back in the 1950s and I don't mind at all that they decided to go in that direction. I thought this movie was great fun to watch, and I don't understand how such simple entertainment can be so bashed.

If you're going to spoiler-tag that first word, you might want to consider the same treatment for "space".

Yeah I thought about that, but then I realized that most people probably know by now.

I watched the first three again this weekend.  I'll probably watch KotCS after school is out if it's still on at the theater and I have time (I'll likely be moving soon).

Well, as long as your school is out early enough, it should still be in theaters.  It is a huge box office hit, after all.

But that's only because it's a sequel to an already popular movie series.

So you're saying it wouldn't do well on its own merit as an excellently done movie?

No. If you haven't read my earlier posts, I enjoyed the movie. I'm just saying that probably a lot of the box office success came from the fact that Indiana Jones is already well-known and loved. It still might've done well on its own, just not as amazingly well.

On the other hand, some Indy fans I know didn't want to see it because they thought Harrison Ford was too old.

I don't see how that really impacts the quality of the film. I mean, yeah, he's old, but they worked it into the story.

Is is just me, or are movies getting more child-oriented? I counted 1 swear in this movie, and no blood. Now compare this to the old ones.  0 0

Last I checked, swearing and blood don't make things better.
Take, for instance, a poorly-written game like Tales of Symphonia, which features an excessive amount of language seemingly just for the purpose of seeming mature or something, while Final Fantasy XII, a much better-written game, has roughly two instances of "swearing" and it's very mild at that, but deals with its environment and circumstances much better and makes a heck of a lot more sense. Things don't need "mature" content to be good, and lacking language and gore doesn't make something "child-oriented".

Whoo, Chup, chill out.

I was distressed by the lack of traditional gruesome death scenes, though they were still plenty messed up. Getting charred to death by a rocket, having ants crawl into every orifice on your body, and getting atomic-bomb-ed are all pretty nasty ways to die. I was especially surprised to see the first two happen on camera.

Those people aren't real Indy fans. What if they made a game with a slightly aged Mario? Would we still play it? Probably.
