Remember that your first Goomba boldly you walk? When Mario touched that mushroom being brought up more largely remember that you are surprised? Miscalculate your jump that pit remember that it falls?

I think the idea is that Mario, a plumber dressed as a bee, is in no position to tell Ness his game is "too weird".

Argh, I hate the crazy hippies you have to fight in Earthbound. They're almost as numerous as the grumpy old guys you battle in the Happy Happy Cult arc.

EDIT: Ah, I didn't even notice the grumpy guy in the back getting blasted by Ness and Paula.
