I thought I might be able to get an advance copy today, but our GameStop only got one NFS.  We do have a lot of displays, but the actual games probablly won't be in until Monday afternoon or Tueday morn.

I'll have to change my network security before I get on with the copy I get tomorrow.  Dang you Nintendo.

I hope I won't have to... Actually, I'm quite sure I won't have to, because I have to buy the USB dongle.

>Scratch that, I already ordered it. I wonder how long it will take to get here...

MARIO KART DS LAUNCHES WITH WI-FI GAMING SERVICE

Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Begins a New Era of Simple Online Play

REDMOND, Wash., Nov. 14, 2005 – That sound you hear is the thunder of video gamers worldwide revving their engines for the launch of Mario Kart® DS and Nintendo® Wi-Fi Connection. For the first time ever, the online gaming service for Nintendo DS™ lets users connect wirelessly to race. From the very start, users can log on easily to shoot shells and burn rubber against opponents from all around the world.

"Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection removes the barriers that have prevented many mainstream players from going online," says Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of sales & marketing. "We have made the service incredibly simple to use and free at select hotspot locations – but this is just the beginning."

The Mario Kart franchise has sold more than 11.1 million games in the United States alone. Mario Kart DS offers racers more than 30 courses, including classic tracks from Super Mario Kart®, Mario Kart 64™, Mario Kart™: Super Circuit™ and Mario Kart®: Double Dash!! ™. Favorite Nintendo characters cruise in dozens of classic and custom karts as they use weapons like bananas, bombs, lightning and squid ink to gain a competitive advantage.

When racing using a wireless local area connection, up to eight players can play, even if only one of them has a Mario Kart DS game card. When using Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, up to four players across the world can join a race. Friends share their DS Friend Code to find one another online using their friend roster.

Whether users are at home or out and about, they have a variety of uncomplicated ways to connect to Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection:

    * If the user already has a Wi-Fi home network, the Nintendo DS unit will connect directly with minimal setup procedures.

    * Those who have a home high-speed Internet connection such as cable or DSL, but no Wi-Fi home network, can either purchase a compatible wireless router or the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector, which plugs into the USB port of a PC running Windows XP to create a wireless access point to connect a DS to Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. The Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector will be sold exclusively on Nintendo.com at an MSRP of $34.99.

    * Outside the home, when a user brings a Nintendo DS unit and a Wi-Fi-enabled game into a Wayport-enabled McDonald's restaurant locations, the user simply launches the game in Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection mode. No setup is required.

    * Nintendo DS owners who want to play games at Wi-Fi locations outside McDonald's restaurant locations or their homes can use a laptop computer and the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector to access Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. The Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector enables the Nintendo DS to share an Internet connection established by a PC, providing a conduit to play games via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Regular Internet access fees may apply from these locations.

    * Nintendo DS owners may also connect at a number of other free hotspot locations with no additional hardware and minimal setup. A complete list of these locations, along with the list of participating McDonald's restaurant locations, can be found on www.nintendowifi.com.

Mario Kart DS is the first title to use Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, along with multiple upcoming titles like Animal Crossing®: Wild World on Dec. 5 and Metroid® Prime Hunters on March 20. For more information about Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, log onto www.nintendowifi.com.

That's pretty cool. I have all the stuff I need for the wifi except a game that connects to wifi. And whatever you need to plug the DS to the computer. Birthday list, maybe.

Is anyone else having problems with online play?  I even went to a Wayport access point and it took 5 or 6 minutes before I gave up.  The DS did connect to NWFC but couldn't find opponents.
Today's actually... nobody's birthday!  Quick, hurry up and make a baby!

I bought MK:DS yesterday and spent quite a bit of time on the missions section. No online gaming for me until I recieve my USB dongle-thing. Harsh words, 667th Dude. I think it would be wise to suppress overconfidence.

'Tis on my Christmas list.

I'll try and get the DS going from the Airport connection in this house, seeing as that USB adapter thingamabobber only works for XP.

I've got a router that's compatible. And a DS. That's... about it. I'll get MKDS eventually, like with Christmas or birthday money... And then I'll find out what kind of USB cord I need to use it.

If you have a router that's compatible, you don't need the USB thing.

Cool. So all I have to do is get MKDS somehow. Too bad video games don't fall out of the sky.
My router's a Linksys. The broadband/dsl/whatever thingy's Direcway. I can't wait... Hopefully I'll be in town sometime soon and my sister will ask for something, and I'll be there.
I wonder what other Mario games are gonna be on wifi. A Super Smash Bros, hopefully. A Mario Party, almost undoubtedly. I hope Nintendo takes advantage of this. You should be able to play with a friend while talking to them. There's a microphone!

Cool! The little button on the left's orange for some reason... It used to be white. It still works, but I don't think it's supposed to be orange.

You wouldn't have to get all of them if they didn't add so much stuff every time!

I hope MKDS has support for connecting to a WEP-protected wireless network, because somehow I don't think "directly connecting to a Wi-Fi home network with minimal setup" includes cracking my network password. Can anyone with a WEP-protected Linksys router verify this?

Dang, I want this game so baad! I even wen to the Wkipedia Page for spoilers. Apparently someone already hacked it so the Wifi works on courses it normally wouldn't. And for the battle mode, you blow air into the microphone to inflate your balloons? Brilliant. I've never played battle mode on MKSC, I'm so glad it's going to work with single-pak download play this time. I only know one person who has a DS, but it's better than nothing. The official site is fine. Last time, when MKDD came out my internet was too slow to see the videos. The graphics for MKDS are good. I want!

Edit: If you go to the Wikipedia page, check out the sales info for some comparisons that make XBOX Live seem pathetic.

Can you say MKDDDS Plus?

I would be able to die happy if they did that for DS.
